Jonezy Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 It doesn't prove anything. Mattock's the current U21 leftback but he hasn't exactly set the Championship alight. Yeah, but apparently Mattock is the one of only a few Englishmen under the age of 21, who has a preferred left foot and slight idea about tackling, and he plays his regular football in the biggest mess within the Football League.
Joe. Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 When I first saw this earlier my intial reactions were a) Shocked that we'd signed somebody to replace that joke we call a goalkeeper. b) Pretty pleased. Alnwick has a good reputation, but I'll admit I've rarely seem him play. Still, it's an improvement on Henderson at least.
Staf Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Never seen him play much but from what i have heard he is a good young English goalie and i imagine he is better than Hendo
Mort Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 I'd cautiously say he's a very solid improvment on what we've got... havent seen him since he went to Spurs but rated him at Sunderland (surprised they let him go, brought Fulop in, then went and splashed £9mil on Gordon... ) either way I'm glad we've go a recoginsed keeper just hope he's given the chance to settle in. It could be something of a shock to system going from the Spurs bench/reserves to number 1 at a championship club on the ropes... but with any luck he'll take it in his stride.

That is presumably why Spurs have sent him "on Loan" ....... to see if he will be able to take it in his stride
dan_84 Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 he keeps joe hart out of the england team so he cant be bad
Simi Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 From what I've seen of him he's a decent young keeper. Let's not forget, they let Fulop go and got in Alnwick so there must be something in that.
Candidcamera Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Spoke to a sunderland fan after the news broke and he says the lad's very good. Pronounce it Arnick by the way. Get behind him.

lavrentis Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Now i don't wanna put pressure on the young lad, but from what I heard..he's good.
Dames Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Good Prospect. Now give us some wingers and a left back Ollie!
filbertway Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 On the basis I heard of him like I did Fulop, on FM, he'll be brilliant.
Master Fox Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Spoke to a sunderland fan after the news broke and he says the lad's very good. Pronounce it Arnick by the way. Get behind him. Oh we will. Don't worry about that!
Mighty Muzzy Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Good signing IMO. Can't be any worse than Hendo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Simon Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 This is a good signing IMO, excellent shot stopper when I've seen him and he'll command his box better than Hendo that's for sure. He's probably about as good as we could reasonably have hoped in the circumstances. For now, I hope people swallow their pride and disappointment about Fulop and get behind this kid.
andyh1884 Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 I remember seeing him play against us in 04-05 at the Stadium of Light. I wasn't impressed. This is a signing with the message "Will this do?" attached to it. For the sake of all concerned, it had better do! This is a curious statement to make given this comment about that particular game on wikipedia: His performances against Leicester City and West Ham, the games that won Sunderland promotion to the Premiership and Championship win respectively, were impressive. Now I'm well aware that Wikipedia is about as reliable as Henderson but it's interesting that someone specifically commented on that particular game from that season, a comment that directly contradicts yours. Mind, we have been treated to some excellent keepers over the years so perhaps your standards are a little higher than the average supporter at other clubs.
The Stig Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Chuffing good signing. Young keeper, eager to prove himslef, ideal replacement for Fulop. Thank god we've got a decent keeper for the game on saturday.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 Fingers crossed that Robbo starts looking like England Number 1 again in the next few weeks - that way Ramos doesn't panic and bring him back to Spurs. Wouldn't be suprised to see Fulop come in as well though - this is an excellent bargining tool!
DB11 Posted 7 January 2008 Posted 7 January 2008 A transfer talk rumour that's come true! Glad with this, and if Tottenham signed him and shipped Fulop over to Sunderland then he should be better?
