Bert Posted 8 January 2008 Posted 8 January 2008 Two words: Jimmy Neilsen. That was four words though.
davieG Posted 9 January 2008 Posted 9 January 2008 Source Cardiff City have lost out on another goalkeeping target as they struggle to fill the ratehr large boots left by Kasper Schmeichel. Schmeichel was only ever a short term fix but really made an impact and filled the gap left by Neil Alexander's departure, something Ross Turnbull and Michael Oakes failed to do. Now, another top target, Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Ben Alnwick has rejected a loan move to the Bluebirds in favour of a switch to Ian Holloway's Leicester City. The 21 year old is a good prospect for the future, and at 6 ft 2in is the dominant, commanding goalkeeper favoured by Dave Jones. Cardiff now switch to other targets, and Jones flew to Scotland last week to keep tabs on Dundee United's available 'keeper Gregorz Szamoltulski although Jones was reportedly not convinced with the Pole and is actively pursuing other targets.

I like that bit tall, dominant, commanding and turned down Cardiff to join us...... Lets hope its all true, and we will forget about Marci!
mancunianfox Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Stearman from the Mercury... the City defender is in no doubt that Alnwick will be an excellent addition to Ian Holloway's squad.Stearman said: “We have been part of the England set-up together since we were about under-17s. “He rang me and said, 'Leicester have inquired about me and I would like to come. See if you can have a word'. “I did and thankfully he is here. He is a great shot-stopper and has an excellent kick on him - his kicking really is a weapon.
breadandcheese Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Stearman from the Mercury... He's going to be the next Monster Monster Eric Hall.
Bryn Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Will be interesting to see a keeper with a good kick, even Fulop's kicking was his weakness.
SamL Posted 10 January 2008 Posted 10 January 2008 Will be interesting to see a keeper with a good kick, even Fulop's kicking was his weakness. That's good to hear, hopefully he turns out to be as bigger a hit as Fulop was. Fulop didn't have many weaknesses but the main one was his wayward kicking. Hopefully Alnwick doesn't turn out like Logan, pretty good at kicking but doesn't command his area. He sounds very promising but until i've seen him play I can't judge him.
davieG Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 From the Merc Leicester City's new goalkeeper Ben Alnwick is not ruling out the prospect of turning his loan deal into a permanent move. The England Under-21 and Tottenham keeper is down the pecking order at White Hart Lane. Sunderland's Marton Fulop found himself in the same situation - wanting first-team action - and the Hungarian was disappointed not to have stayed at the Walkers Stadium. But Fulop's loss may yet be Alnwick's gain, and the 21-year-old, who made his City debut in the 2-0 win over Coventry on Saturday, said: “This is a club I would love to be at and, if something permanent came of it, then I would be happy enough. “I am just here to get my games in and do my best for Leicester City. Whatever comes of it at the end is out of my hands.” Alnwick certainly got off to a good start as one of the six new faces who managed that fine win over Coventry and, despite an early mix-up with Richard Stearman that went unpunished, he was virtually a spectator. Alnwick said: “Before the game, if I had been offered a clean sheet and that I would have had almost nothing to do in a convincing win, I would have taken it. “As for the mix-up, we got out of it and went on to win the game. “Everyone was full of confidence even though it was a team thrown together just the day before. It was difficult but everyone pulled through and did a really good job. “We looked good together, got on very well and won. Let's hope we can take it all into the next game.” City boss Ian Holloway's ideas of a “reward” was to order double sessions - for coaching purposes and to integrate the new players. Alnwick said: “We are feeling the benefits. Everyone has so much respect for the manager and everyone is working hard for him. “It is the first time I have worked with Mike Stowell and he is a really good coach.” A trip to Norwich is next up on Saturday and Alnwick would love another clean sheet which could be the foundation for that elusive second win in a row. He said: “We need the win, they need the win, so there is all to play for. It is such a close league and a run of three or four wins can shoot you up the table.”
Sooper Steve's shin Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 From the MercLeicester City's new goalkeeper Ben Alnwick is not ruling out the prospect of turning his loan deal into a permanent move. etc Good news, but I think every loan signing says this. No-one joins a club and says "Actually, I didn't want to be at this sh1thole but I am being sent here to learn a lesson and can't wait to get back to lazing around in the reserves on decent money".
Ric Flair Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Will be interesting to see a keeper with a good kick, even Fulop's kicking was his weakness. Who is that in your signature?
Fox You Forest Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Who is that in your signature? Looks like Mikkel Beck(sp?) but im not certain.
