Raj Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 So the Over21's ARE taking it seriously this year! Daggers aint over 21 is he???? Looks so young in his facebbok photo!!!
cisono Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 My knowledge on aeorobic fitness is limited, but what I would say it try intense swimming (not just fannying up and down the lanes at a slow pace) I mean intense. Of course, that depends what level you are starting from... i.e. intensity is subjective. For some people, just going up and down at a slow pace might be a tough session. (though they'd be improving soon...) In terms of loosing the flab I would say start lifting weights. There is plenty of evidence on the internet to trawl through that proves weight lifting offers more to loosing weight than cardio does. Not sure there is conclusive evidence for this (after all, long-distance runners are skinny, albeit generally not healthy-looking in my opinion). In any case, everyone (including our grandparents) should do some amount of resistance training as a matter of course (for wellbeing, including hormonal balance and functionality maintenance). Plus muscle burns up more energy than fat at rest. That really is just very basic. oh and if your diet isnt up to scratch then all the above advice is worthless, you will just fail.Diet really is 60% of it, and the exercise is 40% Diet is worth probably more than that, but yes I agree with you that it is essential for success. if I see a fat guy in the gym then I will think in my mind, ''fair play he is trying to put it right'' not ''haha he's fat, unlucky'' that most people think. Indeed. This reminds me of all the fat people I saw on holiday in Tenerife. All of them British! (At first I thought there was some slimming clinic around where I was staying but apparently not). And the only "fat family" I came across that did not sound English - on closer inspection - turned out to be from Liverpool! I bet none of them exercise at all (apart from their mastication muscles). I don't mind seeing "fat people" in the gym. They won't carry around too much extra fat for long if they stick with their workouts! And it is great to see their improvements and enhanced body image
cisono Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 Two hours and twenty minutes of weights yesterday - and now I'm hurting like a bastard.Someone fetch me some soup will you? I can't move. Did you have 20 minute breaks in between different exercises?

Matt Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 I'm aching like fook today, Signed up to the gym on Monday, I thought as i'm out of work, not finding any, being bored at home I may aswell get my fitness up, as being out of work I feel so unfit (Not that i'm the fittest anyway, I'm quite chunky) but doing manual labour as a job, when you sit on your arse all day for a change you do actually notice how fit you are when doing work. Anyway I went abit silly and had no rest days and after 2 days (Yes, just 2) i've managed to fook myself up! Woke up this morning and couldn't move my arms at all, they had just ceased up, Aching now, I can move them now though thank-god! Day 1 25 Mins Running. 2000m Rowing Machine. Weights. Day 2 30 Mins Cross-Trainer. Weights. Pool/Steam Room/Sauna/Hot Tub. Day 3 Fooked.

Mate if you haven't been in the gym for a while you should take it easy to start with or you will just more damage. The pain you feel is good. Thats the muscles repairing themselves. I don't know what your goal is in the gym but if your trying to bulk I would suggest either do less cardio before weights or do them in different sessions or you will be wasting your time. If your trying to bulk also plenty of complex carbs at night and plenty of protein foods post sessions. Just rest until all pain is one or you will not be helping yourself.

Yeah I am just resting now. Just trying to tone really, and get fitness up. Did you neglect the stretching/warm up/warm down? Sort of. Did a bit of stretching, should do more.
Alexikokopops Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Did you neglect the stretching/warm up/warm down? Sort of. Did a bit of stretching, should do more. I find that if I do a proper warm up before and after exercise I don't hurt the next day at all. Except my knee joints occasionally but that's because I have shit knees.

Samilktray Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 At some point within the next 7 days I will join a gym. How much is a membership for a half decent gym normally?

hairy Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 cod liver oil my friendim am gay Cod liver oil sorted my knee joints out but it makes your poo sticky
Edmund Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Cod liver oil sorted my knee joints out but it makes your poo sticky Not sure about that but one thing I do know is those protein shakes leave a trail of destruction in the air. My local gym has a smell made up from sweat combined with protein farts, which isn't a pleasant smell.
Edmund Posted 24 June 2009 Posted 24 June 2009 http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-3104.aspx Does anyone know if this is any decent or could recommend me a good bench for free weights without breaking the bank.
Tommy G Posted 24 June 2009 Posted 24 June 2009 Around 20 - 25 notes a month for a decent gym.Around 30 - 100 notes a month for a pretentious gym. I pay £46 which I think is fair.

It looks fine, just if you are going to buy that, then free weights on top then you will be looking at £150, plus then you could grow out your weights if you get bigger. I started with under 10kg dumbells but I can now press almost 2 x 30kg dumbells which would be about £25 each if you were to buy them yourself. A bench only offers limited exercises aswell, not worth it IMO too expensive

Edmund Posted 24 June 2009 Posted 24 June 2009 I pay £46 which I think is fair. I personally would never pay that much but im guessing you get better equipment, a pool and sauna on premises. I know it varies from gym to gym and the price reflects the standard but most gyms do the job as long as they have the standard equipment. Ive also found a cheap site on the net which does weight plates at good prices if I need to upgrade. In the long run its much cheaper and can do it from the comfort at home without some twat hovering above me rushing me off the bench and I get to listen to some decent tunes. I don't use machines as they are pretty pointless as they do all the work for you. It also depends what your after. I don't lift weights to be like Schwarzenegger just to keep fit and toned.
