On a side note are you a "get the old chap out in the changing room and not give a shit" type or are you more a "I'm going to wrap this towel around me and not give anything away" type.

I'm the latter. Something about men who feel comfortable getting their bits out in front of random strangers makes me a bit uncomfortable.

I let it all hang out. I don't care what anyone else thinks of my out of shape body and unimpressive tackle - why would anyone be looking anyway? I don't look around at others - I just get on and do my thing.

Nah I did actually swim rather than float around, infact people who floated around and got in my way whilst swimming really pissed me off, no surprise around 80% of those people were fat bastards, I could have used the gym more but did use it a fair bit.

As for a Leisure Centre, call me a 'snob' (Which i'm not) but the gym parts don't tend to be all that and i've found you need to work around kids lessons, e.t.c

I was just really wanted opinions on whether £46 - £50 was a good/average price for gym, pool, sauna, steam room, it's abit pricey imo but at the end of the day you pay for what you get.

I think my problem is i'm going from one extreme to the other, i've been to an expensive and a (Very imo) cheap gym.

For me then, and bear in mind I don't know you that well, I would go for a higher end gym - you're less likely to get people in your way in the pool AND it's more likely that when you do use the gym, the people in there will have more of an idea of what they are doing rather than just being dicks/meatheads etc.

If I didn't have the run of my own gym through work I'd be a member of a higher end gym, for me they're worth the premium if you can afford it.

I go to lifestyle fitness but recently they have slashed their membership costs with loads of promotions. Always rammed now so considering moving on. The thing that really pisses me off about the place is the toilets are always blocked

So I want to compare prices with what people pay at the moment to gauge an idea.

I need to get back into the gym.

I was at a 'posh' gym with a pool, paying £45 a month, then out of the blue they put it up to £50 so I left.

I went to a closer and much cheaper gym, paying something like £85 every 3 months. I went religously for the first month but it eased off and i've not renewed.

Because of the hours of work and working away often I struggle to go to the gym/struggle to be bothered to go.

However when I was at the 'posh' gym with the pool it made me more motivated to go as I went in the gym then used the pool a fair bit, especially at the weekends. So although it was quite a bit more expensive I probably benefitted from it more, I am considering going back but at the same time struggling to justify that price. (I think they m

ay have dropped the price from the £50 that they raised it to, not by much but a pound or 2.)

If you work away a bit, join The Gym Group. £22 a month and you can use loads of gyms round the country. I do that and have a home gym. Works well.

Been a regular Gym user for 7 years or so. At the moment, I use the Loughborough College gym, and pay probably about £30 a month - steam room, but no pool, sadly. Quite a good gym though, not too busy most of the time (other than your typical monday/tuesday) and pretty much everything I need there.

For people that want good value for money and don't care about swimming, I can't recommend Pure Gym enough, brilliant value for money (my only criticism was that the Bench Press facilities they had at the one in Stoke weren't the best).

Personal trainer three times a week (ex Leicester player).

Need a PT else I just wouldn't do anything.

Been strictly following my three sessions a week for five months and it's the best thing I have ever done. For an old timer like me, can't believe how better I feel.

Hard journey though, those first three months were hell on earth.

Just spoke to the gym I used to go to and the do quarterly memberships at £50 a month, at the moment there is no joining fee, abit pricey (Was looking abit cheaper than that) but aslong as I use it I could make it pay I guess, if I go 3 times a week (minimum) it will work out around £4.16 a session - Not too bad for gym, swim, sauna and steam.

I've said i'd think about it, but think I might go for it next week

Does anyone in the industry know if you can haggle with gyms? Or do they religiously stick to their prices and that it, I know time to time you can get away with no joining fee but there is no joining fee in the offer they have offered.

Depends on the chain, they'll probably look at your history with them, if you've been a decent member for a year or two then they'll probably drop the joining fee if you haggle and make out that that's the deal breaker...

It's possible they will lower the monthly fee but very, very unlikely. The company I work for would never do it.

If however you're a new customer then it's unlikely you'll get much. But as I said, depends on the gym, depends on the individual dealing with you and it depends on how you ask but I'm sure you know that last bit anyway!

Anyone got any good strength workouts? As in weekly plans?

I started just lifting to failure and i've increased in what I can lift rapidly. It does really depend on the individual.

Has anyone ever been to a gym thats littered with top class flange?

I dont think i've ever seen any in any gyms i've been a member of.

I've just joined Loughborough Leisure Centre. It was a toss up between there and LA Fitness in the Rushes. The Leisure Centre is £5 more expensive, but I pass it on the way home from work and one of my best mates goes there. Plus it has a pool which LA doesn't. £40 a month isn't too bad.

I tried the whole running after work thing, but I found once I was in my flat I had no motivation to go back out.

Anyone a member of Braunstone leisure centre? And if so is it any good??

I used to go there years ago. Was pretty good. Depends what you want to do, but I can't remember any free weights there.

Plus I imagine they're not quite so bad for stinging you with long contracts, which bastards like LA Fitness tend to do.

That's true. It's just rolling monthy, you can cancel whenever with 30 days notice. I used to go to Syston which is run by the same people, along with Mountsorrel. They all used to be council run until Fusion took them over, but they've obviously realised this non contract thing is a good selling point because they've kept it.

I can use all three Gyms for the £40 too, so all in all a decent deal.

I use the mountsorrel one and occasionally Syston. Don't live in Syston any more despite the user name!

I only pay £30 a month :nigel:

Yeah I think it's a lifetime fee. It was £30 when I was at Syston a couple of years back, but I cancelled that, and now it's £40 two years on. :nigel:

I get corporate discount!

Decent enough gym although not enough bikes and weights area is stupidly tiny.

Last time I went Syston it had changed since I lived there, for the better!

I was thinking of joining the gym at the Radmoor centre. What is the free weights section like?

Really? I used to go to LA in the rushes a few years ago and it had a pool.
