WetFlannel Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Zsolt Laczko was outstanding! his skill was quality, his pace and strength were good, his aerial ability was good, his desire to run at defenders and cross the ball into the box was my favourite attribute of his, his runs were aslo fantastic in the first ten minutes he could have had two, although he should have done better. However, i would rather he were in the position and miss than not in the position at all. Did anyone notice how powerful he can shoot with both feet in the warm up? I also, enjoyed his dummy to drop henderson to the ground so he could roll the ball into the net! Aslso, promising performance from Bori. That was amazing!!! And all his stepovers
acooling08 Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Alnwick 7- few good catches but not much to do. Stearman 8- bad mistake but didn't give Adebola a sniff Kisnorbo 8- solid as always McAuley 8- Won lots of devensive headers Bori 7- Few good crosses. Positive start. Needed to get passed to more. Clemence 8- Good passing. Went close with a great shot. Oakley 9- Great passing. Great signing Laczco 10- MAN OF MATCH. Great winger (fast, good crossing and lots more) Howard 9- Great goal. Won lots of flick ons for Hume. Never gave up. Hume 8- Good as always. Hayles 8- Decent goal. Not given enough time.
Legend_in_blue Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Alnwick - 7 - Good debut. Dealt quite well with a shambles in front of him in the first half (which led to the ball hitting the post). Stearman - 6.5 - Can't pass. The weak link in defence alongside Mcauley. Almost a 7 performance however as he never quit, kept trying hard towards the end, even though he was injured with a knock. Kisnorbo - 7 - Solid performance. Mcauley - 6.5 - Solid in the air, but poor distribution of the ball. Mattock - 7 - Solid. Well up for it. Put in some hard tackles and linked well with Laczko down the left. Bori - 7.5 - Looked very lively with some good crosses. Has a footballing brain, even if he can't speak English! Oakley - 8 - Didn't notice him much, which means he was solid. Never gave the ball away, never lost a pass. Class. Clemence - 6.5 - Surprised by some of the ratings on here for Clem. Slow at times, caught in possession. Must up his ante now, no excuses. He now has great players around him in midfield. Laczko - 9.1 - Absolute quality. Constantly looked to get forward, fast, two good feet, clever on and off the ball, looking for runs all the time. Class. Hume - 8 - Fancy footwork and worked very hard. Sometimes a little too fancy though when the quick ball is needed. Howard - 8 - Good home debut. Once chance, took it well. Quality player at this level. Subs: Hayles - 7 - Hard man. Good. The more the better. Took the goal well after good pressure on the full back. Weso - Didn't have enough time to do much. Team effectiveness - 8 - Balanced. A midfield. Hard man up front. Touches of class when needed. Grit and determination to see it out. What a difference. The most effective team we've had in three seasons! Managerial skills - 9 - To bring in these players and to get them playing like this in a few days is a job well done. It looks like Ollie has brought in some great players who will go on to offer a lot at our club. Here's to Ollie! Well done that man. Our season starts here people. Blue Army!

MikeyT Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Alnwick - 7 - What he had to do, he did with minimal fuss.Stearman - 7 - Did well, easily dealt with Adebola but did scare me a bit in the first half. But passing was shocking. Kisnorbo - 7 - Solid Mcauley - 7 - Above Mattock - 7 - Two above. Bori - 7.5 - Looked very lively and fast, good crosses. Oakley - 8 - Really good performance. Broke up play well and got forward well. Clemence - 7.5 - Good performance by the skipper, cool in possession. It just shows what he can do and what he can do when he has decent players around him. Him and Oakley are brilliant CM's for the Championship. Laczko - 9 - Brilliant debut. Good in the air, fast, good work rate. Also some very fancy footwork. Hume - 8 - Fancy footwork and worked very hard. Did really well with Howard and used the wingers well. Almost scored. Howard - 7.5 - Good home debut. Won most things in the air, controlled the ball well and took his goal well. Subs: Hayles - 7 - Roughed their defence up and took his goal very well. Weso - Didn't have enough time to do much. All in all a very good display and the new boys looked good as well. Cant argue with that!! Thats about spot on i would say!!!

Thracian Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Stearman was never that good. And McAuley was never that bad. I mentioned McAuley to a guy I met during lunch before the match today and afterwards and said he'd watched his passing specifically and "never realised before how often he hooved it straight to an opponent." Fortunately today, Coventry asked few questions. McAuley won everything in the air and even when it went to the opposition we quickly won it back. In fact one of strengths today, which has previously been missing, was being first to the loose ball not just in midfield but also in attack when Coventry tried to clear. Sadly though, it won't always be so easy and we won't always be able to be indifferent about giving the ball away so unnecessarily. As for Stearman, Coventry and Adebola made virtually no progress down the left and Stearman still found time to attack, most notably pumping over a terrific low cross which offered Clemence a brilliant chance.
Ultra Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Alnwick - 7 Stearman - 7 McAuley - 7 Kisnorbo - 7 Mattock - 8 (best game I've seen from him) Bori - 7 Oakley - 9* (quality debut, best midfielder since Muzzy) Clemence - 8 (responded well to having Oakley alongside him) Laczko - 8 (inspired by the occasion, linked well with Mattock) Hume - 8 Howard - 7 Hayles - 8 (superb finish) Wesolowski - n/a

Lanesy Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Alnwick: 7 - Steady debut. Confident. Stearman: 6 - Hate it when he just balloons it upfield which most of the time goes straight to the opposition. Kisnorbo: 7 - Gets better and better every time i see him play. Mcauley: 7 - Rock. Mattock: 7 - Great prospect. Bori: 7 - Very lively and some clever link-up play. Good debut. Oakley: 8 - Excellent. Clemence: 7 - Formed a great partnership in the middle with Oak, long may it continue. Zsolt: 8 - Some lovely showboating, worked hard throughout. Impressive. Howard: 7 - Great finish, great leader of the frontline, worked well with Hume. Hume: 8 - Showed some great touches and looked lively. Will improve playing off big Stevie. Hayles: 7 - Go on Barry!
escape2victory Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Alnwick - 7 Stearman - 8 - A few are being a bit harsh on him this evening. I thought it was a solid display. Handled Dele Tombola well, put in a few crunching tackles and made several decent overlaps to support Bori Kisnorbo / McAuley - 9 - Held a superb high line and improved distribution Mattock - 8 - Most complete performance ive seen from him Bori - 8 - Played it safe on his debut. Nice and simple. Put in some decent crosses and got into good scoring positions Oakley / Clemence - 9 - The Petit and Viera of the Championship! One goes forward, one stays back. Can only get better when they have played a few games together Latckzo - 8 - Similar to Bori in terms of putting in decent crosses and looking like a goal threat but also has a bit of a "wow" factor. Set to be the new croud favourite Hume - 10 - Best performance of the season from Hume. His first touch was quality today. Several times he killed a ball dead as it came out of the sky. Superb link up between the midfield and Howard. A real livewire. Need more performances like this rather than one every couple of months to justify his place Howard - 8 - Good flick ons, made a nuisance of himself. Just what we have needed since Ferdinand left.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 I'm not one to go overboard usually but these are genuinely my ratings from today; Alnwick 7 Stearman 7 Kisnorbo 7 McAuley 7 Mattock 7 Bori 8 Clemence 9* Oakley 9 Laczko 9 Hume 9 Howard 8 Sorry, we were just that good. Confident in possession, knocked it around brilliantly. The move leading to Howard's missed chance in the second half was beautiful. Started like a train and carried on like one too for once. I was sceptical when he brought Hayles on and he goes and scores! Just everything clicked. Laczko is something really special and everyone responded in the midfield and attack today. I just love the Hungarians' eagerness to create opportunities and they will shoot given half a chance. Almost felt sorry for their right-back (Isaiah Osbourne's brother wasn't it!! Ha!).
WetFlannel Posted 12 January 2008 Posted 12 January 2008 Almost felt sorry for their right-back (Isaiah Osbourne's brother wasn't it!! Ha!). After about the tenth stepover it started getting painful to watch
Simon Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Stearman was never that good. And McAuley was never that bad. I disagree. McAuley gave the ball away soooo cheaply today. If Ipswich want to wang in an improved bid, he can go as far as I'm concerned. We won't get away with that against better sides. Alnwick- 7 Stearman- 7 McAuley- 6 Kisnorbo- 7 Mattock- 7.5 Bori- 7 Oakley- 9 Clem- 8 Laczko- 8.5 Howard- 8 Hume- 8.5 Subs: Hayles- 7 Weso- not on long enough

Sods Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Alnwick 7 - My god hes kick is huge and accurate! Stearman 7 - Very good defensively, kept given the ball away and a few minutes of madness. McAuley 7 Kisnorbo 7 Mattock 7 Bori 7 He didn't impress me as uch as Laczko but he still look promsing. Excited. Oakley 8 Great Buy. Clemence 8 Much better with Oakley, they bothe won the game yesterday, winning everything whilst passing it wide. Laczko 8 Hume 8 MOM better game from Humey yesterday Howard 8 Scored, Got stuck in, won headers
teblin Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Alnwick - 6 Ad nothing to do really, had a mix up with stearman but stears should've just cleared it. Stearman 7 Solid McAuley - 7.5 Great in the air, good tackle, solid Kisnorbo - 7.5. As above. Mattock - 8 Best game i have seen him have for city. Bori - 7.5 Did see the ball as much as Laczko, but never gave the ball away and can cross well. Clemence - 9 Ran the game along with oakley Oakley- 9 As above, makes it look easy Laczko - 8 Good skill, could've had 3 goals, fast, could be a great find. Hume - 7.5 linked up well with the new boys, looked like he will benefit playing along side howard. Howard - 8 Scoreda goal should've had a second but exactly what we have needed for 4 or 5 years.
scrivins2 Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Alnwick 7 - Stearman 7- McAuley - 7.5 Kisnorbo -7 Mattock -7.5 Bori - 7 Clemence -8 Oakley -8 Laczko -8 Hume -8 Howard -7
sdb II Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Alnwick 6.5 - looked ok, 1 moment of poor communication with defence (altho mainly stearmans fault). big kick but pretty innacurate Stearman 6.5 - hot and cold. some good tackles but poor distribution at times, hoofing down the line to their LB. worked hard though Kisnorbo 7 - usual solid self McAuley 7 - same Mattock 6 - drawn out of position too much even if it was never really exposed by cov Bori 7.5 - looked like a talented player who needs a little match fitness as his final pass/shot we're a little weaker than the rest of his game. fit in with ease. Clemence 7.5 - comfortable game Oakley 7.5 - in and out of the game for me, but with clem should give us one of the best CM's in the league Laczko 8.5 - classy. worked his socks off, and showed great technical skill. 2 good feet, attack minded, liked to cut inside. beautiful Hume 8.5 - easily one of the leagues best players on his day. 1st touch was always perfect. assist, ran for 90 mins. Howard 7.5 - good outlet, goal. same every game would be fine
Kilworthfox Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 After about the tenth stepover it started getting painful to watch
Flynny Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 Alnwick 7 - Not much to do other then messes our team created for him. Communication between him and the defence is never going to be perfect on his first game. Looked good. Stearman 7 - Loses a point for the error with Alnwick and the ball to no-one he played down the right flank. Apart from that it was a good performance. Not his best, but good enough by a wide margin. Defensively he was spot on. McAuley - 7 - Good. He even played a short ball to Stearman at one point, I'd have fallen off my chair if I wasn't standing up. I've said a few times I'd take a million for him any day of the week, but I'd like to see him play a few more games in this new-look side first, on reflection. Kisnorbo -7.5 - Just slightly better than McAuley (but then I'd say that most weeks this season) Mattock -7 - His best performance in ages. Had an outlet, looked more confident, looked up to being a Championship left-back. If he can play like this week-in week-out, any left-back we get in is going to have some competition. Bori - 8 - I thought he was one of our poorer players at first but he got better and better as the game went on. His play off the left-flank was also good, so if we're forced to play a right-footer there thats encouraging. Clemence -8 - Similar, actually. Most of the first half Oakley dominated the midfield and Clemence looked a bit lost, but as the game went on they seemed to understand each others game a bit better and Clemence shone for periods in the 2nd half. Oakley - 9 - Smashing buy. Suddenly our midfield looks like one of the better ones in the division. Laczko -8.5 - Looked amazing. He's slightly erratic but he's got that same willingness to run around that Hume has, a few skills, and a left foot. Deserved his ovation, though I think a lot of that came from relief and suprise around the stadium. "Fuck me we've got shape, attacking purpose and fucking wingers!!" Hume & Howard - 8.5 - Howard scored a nice goal and won a lot of headers. Hume had a blinding game and was unlucky not to score. He looks a lot better positionally in a team that knows what its doing, too. Looks to be our first-choice partnership for the rest of the season, all being well. Hayles - 7.5 - Chance was given to him on a plate, practically, but credit to him for being quick to react and for scoring the goal. Looks a solid signing. Weso - Only on a couple of minutes.
Lillehamring Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 oh come on... those of you who have put stearman as a 4... seriously, whats that all about? by all accounts he played some excessive long balls and was INVOLVED in a mix up with a goalie who he has rarely played with, certainly not recently... but is this, in a team of 8s and 9s, enough to justify giving a 4. i mean, 4 has been the norm for performances that have ranked in the worst performances this season. it seems some people are so insecure or uptight that they are not prepared to be reasonable as far as a young, local lad is concerned. i find it hard to believe that anyone in a game we completely dominated could be ranked 4... pathetic.
Babylon Posted 13 January 2008 Posted 13 January 2008 10 all round... apart from Barry Hayles who cost me £33 quid with his goal!! But seriously, not enjoyed myself at a game so much in years. One of the most one sided games you're ever likely to see.
