Daggers Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 What do I think about getting 0-0 against Norwich? Nothing, because I didn't go to the game. I sat at home and listened to bits of the second half - that's all. Yet there's those who, having listened to a bit more Barber & Piper than I could physically manage seem to think they have a valid opinion about the substitutions, our formation and whether or not it was a good result. And those with the most to post on the matter really have the least to contribute. Bollocks. If you didn't see the game you don't know shit.

MC Prussian Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Man knows nothing at all. No matter where it is. So much for philosophy. But I do agree with the point that armchair supporters do know less.
davieG Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 You know what I mean. I do, Ooops here wo go again! Btw MOM Weso, Howard, Alnwick, Hume shit I don't know. shit I am boring
Ozwin Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 That's such an insulting name, "Armchair supporters" - Just because some people don't go to games doesn't make them any less of a fan than people who go to the games. People like me can't afford to go to every game but I like to listen in on the radio and watch the Championship aswell as get a general opinion from people on here. I think it's such a moronic phrase to call someone.

Calm down, he didn't say you were less of a fan he just stated that you wont have a realistic view of the game especially if you've been listening to Barber. As for Armchair supporter it's just a generic name for those who listen and watch rather than go, for whatever reason.
MC Prussian Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 I do admit I miss out on most games a season - but that's mainly something do to with my geographical location. Then again, Daggers is just on a rant tour. Let it cool off, have some Palace next week and everything will be fine again.

I am disabled cant go to every game but have followed city for 39 years, when I was more mobile I travelled both home and away now much more restricted I am indeed an armchair fan but resent the terminology immensly. I am no less of a supporter than anyone else and I am entitled to my opinion and certainly know a lot more than shit.

Edit: I also hate people who try to judge a Performance from listening to the radio and have a good moan when really it was probably differant.

I don't think it takes a genius to work out that we were under the cosh for much of the game!
Daggers Posted 19 January 2008 Author Posted 19 January 2008 Barber is an idiot. Piper is a funny-voiced idiot. Anyone that simply regurgitates the views of the above two gentlemen (in any form or fashion) on this forum is an idiot. If people find the term armchair fan offensive then maybe we should change the popular and well-used phrase to something like 'away-challenged' or 'differently stadiumly abled'?
Dames Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 I don't think it takes a genius to work out that we were under the cosh for much of the game! True but it might have been simply they were too good and we put in a spirited defensive performance and come away with a decent result. Or it could have been they were avergage and we were just poor and were lucky to get what we got. Theres a few differant possibilities. People who didnt see can't just go on one ranting about how shit we are because we got a draw.
Hullfox Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 I agree Dags. It cheeses me off when people spout their shit about how bad we are from the safety of their RL commentary, questioning substitutions, tactics, team selection etc etc etc. And then half of the world criticises you a) wrongly by missing the point completely or b) because they really really believe their "armchair" opinions are valid. Nobody has said you can't support the club because you don't attend matches, just that you can't really hold a valid view of the circumstances involved. Simple really. Note to idiots: If you were wrongly convicted for a crime by a jury who weren't even present at your trial, you'd not be happy. So hold that thought - you are the absent jurors my friends.

Agreed, which is why I haven't bothered making an opinion on the game.

If your pal tph was restricted to commenting only about players and matches he'd seen, this forum will go all but silent. Bloody hell, we had columns of comments about Kaebi from people who'd clearly never seen him. Besides there are plenty who go to matches and spend so much time in the concourses they don't see much of the action at all, who enjoy singing more than watching, who are so pissed when they get to games that they see two of everything or see a totally different game to everyone else whatever's put in front of them. What's it matter? Commenting on the commentary is a way to spend Saturday afternoon when you cannot get 3 hours down the road. It reflects your emotions as the game progresses. And I'm sure it's no more daft than passing an opinion with some pals in a pub about anything you've never never been involved with and know sod all about first hand. Trying telling Mark he should introduce a rule whereby no comment is allowed except if you've seen the match, watched the players, know the guys' families or have been out with their missus. Visiting this place would be like trawling a desert.
Unit Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Not all of us can afford to get to every single away game, sorry that i'm not as much of a fan as you.

Shocking, some might say but true! It's the reason I don't give much of an opinion on matches I don't attend. We all know you can't tell shit from Barber's commentary. So can those who wanna spout crap, at least wait until those that attended the game get back and post their opinion?
Bryn Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Daggers is right to be fair. It's tempting to analyse games from the radio sometimes but it really is almost impossible to do.
Koke Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 This has the making of a 20 page rant/argument/discussion/debate/accusation of who can comment on what and where and when. One thing I will say though, Daggers is spot on right that us lot who didn't travel to Norwich for whatever reason shouldn't really be dishing out criticism of the players' performance or Ollie's for that matter. Lets take a backseat and wait for the lads and lasses who went to Norwich with their analysis of the game.

Koke Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 Listen, you've been told once!!!!! Shut up and behave. :D . You probably being sarcastic, not sure. If not, you've been a bit unfar on Daggers. He is right, nothing is worse than reading post-match comments from folks who didn't attend the game for whatever reason. Maybe he came across a tad bit harsh, but hey thats Daggers

I don't know any judge or jury that was present when the events happened. Yet they pass judgement.
Manwell Pablo Posted 19 January 2008 Posted 19 January 2008 There was always going to be loud mouths on here today if we didn't win. Most of the forum have spent the last week thinking we're now a brilliant team because we turned Cov over. I think it's a bit difficult to judge certain players and tactics, formation ect from John Barbers below par commentry but I do think people are justified in saying we shouldn't really be going to Carrow road and getting shat on for 90 minutes if thats their opinion. I'm happy with 0-0 personally.
