I'm strange.

Indeed young Danny, indeed.

This might set a new trend - posting when you want to make it clear that you don't want to say anything!

Make a change from people posting when they've got fook all to say.

Who needs to go to games? I am quite capable of forming / holding / changing an opinion based on little or no real information. Using a combination of crap posted on here, BBC news, Football Rumours dot com and a dash of unfounded optimism based on unproven signings and bottomless negativity based on historical performances entirely unrelated to now, I can form / hold / change an almost limitless number of different opinions, all of which have as much value as anyone elses. Oh yes.

Does that give you an excuse to moan at every opportunity?

Aye, surely we have more important things to moan about at every opportunity! ;)

I was caught in the Japanese front - or I would have been had they not cancelled sushi from the damn menu leaving me to suffer bloody Chinese fayre instead. Damn Mrs Daggers for not wanting to be wine and dined on cheeseburgers.

Never heard it called that before! :giggle:

Spot on daggers.

I detest it when the fans who can't be bothered to make the trip there (For whatever reason) try to form on opinion. As a supporter who attendends most games throught the season it offends me.

If I haven't been to the game, you won't see me say anything about it.

at the risk of flogging a dead horse, i think everyone is as right as everyone else is wrong...

but for the record...

1. barbers commentary has IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY in the last few weeks, unfortunatley people are as unable to accept this as they are that stearman might actually be a good player.

2. for the last few games i have listened to the commentary and then read the reviews and the player ratings from various sources and...SHOCK HORROR!...they are uncannily consistent with the impression gained from barber/piper/walsh.

3. when did fans, especially city fans, attending matches suddenly become absolutely reliable on making accurate comments, people at games see what they want to see, especially with regards to certain players. every games one reads opinions from those in attendance that are wildly inconsistent. taking this logic to its extreme, lets none of us ever post any opinion ever again. let us quietly just repeat the final score, the team sheet and the number of shots on target, oh but wait this varies from source to source, its inaccuracy is awesome, how can i possibly form an opinion 5 shots, 4 shots, its all too much, god i wish i'd been at the game then i'd know for sure how many shots we had, cause i was there, so i'd know, and then i'd be considered qualified to comment?

pah, what the fu(k else are you gonna do on a footy message board other than spout unqualified, opinionated nonsense that people will believe or disbelieve as they wish.

That's a harsh comment.

Some people are unable to get to games, some do not want to go. It's not that they can't be bothered.

Personally, I can't be bothered for many away games, I think our support is embarassing.

However, I too will not offer an opinion if I am not there.

Maybe so, I understand that you cannot always go to the games, but in most cases it is a case of not being arsed. I don't personally blame them either, Our support is a complete farce, at home & away. We're turning into Reading, but thats another story.

Personally I don't bother reading any of the Post match threads on here anymore, because most of it, espcially after away games, is from people who haven't been and therefore don't have a valid opinion.

All in all I agree with what your saying :D;)

That's the best way to summarise.

Andy you were very harsh in what you said!

Problem is SUAS, reading the opinions of those who go doesn't always make you feel as if you've been watching the same game.

I agree with Daggers. I don't get to many games due to finacial constraints, so I tend to rely on the reports posted on here by those who have attended. I used to be a regular back when I could afford it and it annoyed me when people who hadn't attended tried to dispute what I had seen based entirely on a paragraph in a Sunday newspaper. I would also say though that just because I can't get to matches as much as I'd like to anymore, that doesn't make me less of a City fan. I feel just as jubilant when we win, and just as despondant when we lose. My mood on a Saturday evening is invariably a tone which is set by a City result.

Quote of the thread.

laughed out loud.

And then stopped laughing suddenly as I was alone, dressed as a lady and my laugh sounded stupid.

I don't get to many away games (Currently 6ish/7 this season) because i cant get time off work on Saturdays, but, if i don't go to the game, I won't comment on it. As such anyway.

for obvious reasons i can't attend home or away, so i rely both on RL commentary and what people say on here... and when i read the match reviews and player ratings, i pick and chose who i read because i know there are a lot of people who attend who talk rubbish and are totally prejudiced in their opinions.

but i also enjoy the opinion of people who haven't attended as they can ofter a level of interpretaion that is food for thought, it is those of us who can't/don't attend who can ask questions and raise points of discussion for those in attendance to qualify or refute.

i personally 'comment on games', naturally i don't pretend to know what has happened, but i feel that i can tie together comments aand observstions of others to offer reflection on things in general, if that makes me an idiot or a disgrace then the spirit of this board is in a pretty sorry state.

Thats quite intolerant, Not everyone has it easy like some. Typical 'Im better than you because i go to every game' behavior.

I agree with the idea of the thread. People shouldn't really come on here shooting thier mouths off saying how terrible or what ever based on radio commentry.

It is however fair to say 'Well sounds like the lads got a good result i'll take that.'

Then again they probably are not allowed to say that because they didn't go (For whatever reason )

Everyones entitled to an opinion but surely it's all relative and should be reflected/qualified by the language used.

Radio = It sounded like; Barber said; it seemed like; etc

TV = It looked like; it appeared to me; it seemed like; from what I could see etc

Live = They were/He was crap; They where/He was excellent; from what I could see etc

Even then it's only any opinion because we've seen time and time again one man's meat is another man's poison.

I don't think there is relatively much difference from watching the game at the ground or from your armchair on the telly.

Sorry but what do you expect when we are near relegation, i have been to 9 away games this season and i think the away support has been quite good IMO

I disagree.

Comparing reports from our games on the TV this season, people who went and people that didn't had differing opinions. I can remember after the Wolves match, a lot of people that went said N Gotty was one of our better players, whereas TV viewers said he was mostly poor.

At the match I think you can see the whole game better from a wider angle, including runs and positioning off the ball.

perhaps davieG you have set a good bench mark here. When posters are offering their opinions they could clearly state on their post if they are commenting from a perspective of listening, viewing or attending and therefore forming their opinion from the following codes :

R = radio

TV= saw it on the box

L= was there in person

Then use the appropriate speak like your examples above that way every one comments and their views are qualified through the coding.

Positional sense and runs down the channel is something you won't able to appreciate on the TV, I agree. But the over-all play you can most certainly draw conclusions on who played badly and who played good and analyze the game sort of.
