Daggers Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 The sheep excelled last night - rejoicing in below-par mediocrity. I don't want the lad booing, but the echoing name-check every time he cocks up is idiotic. It sets a bar of acceptance extremely low, and considering these ovines then go on to boo players doing a half-decent job is a joke. Last night Hume was well below average - you can make all the excuses for that if you care to, but the simple fact that he was poor is as good as beyond dispute...and yet you'd be convinced he was man of the sodding match if you'd sat there with your eyes shut. If I was another player in the team then I'd be getting more than a tad pissed off with it. Well, that's a given considering I'm not a player and it drives me up the bloody wall. Appreciate Hume for what he does well but, for ****s sake, think about what you are doing when you chant "Huuuuuuumeee!" everytime he launches a ball into touch or sodding orbit. Baaaa!

People seem to view Hume through rose tinted spectacles. Don't think he could do anything wrong?
Raj Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 HHHHHuuuuuummmmmmeeee!!! Some cvnt was gonna do it...might as well be me!!!
davieG Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 It has nothing to do with his ability but everything to do with the fact that the Huuuuuummmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeee chant exists. It's the same with Matty Fryatt, and looks like Howard's about to join them, they have 'tunes' for their names so get sung even when they're playing crap. But I'll take any of them against 'start the wave' when the score's 0-0!
Daggers Posted 29 January 2008 Author Posted 29 January 2008 But I'll take any of them against 'start the wave' when the score's 0-0! Damn it! I haven't heard that chant for ages and I love a good Mexican Wave. Plymouth it is then!
andyh1884 Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 The one that really annoyed me last night was when, on a break down the right, he tried to switch it to the left wing where Laczko & Mattock were both in acres yet he managed to hoof it straight out of play on the full, almost exactly halfway between the two, everyone goes huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuume! despite it being an utterly piss-poor attempt at a pass. He doesn't like playing right wing and it shows in his performances there. He tries to do too much with it and invariably gives it away. When Bori came on he got it and released it early, simple stuff but very effective. Hume should be played up front and up front only, it's where he's most effective for us. Playing him right wing doesn't get the best out of him and causes other problems

Am I deaf? (and please, nobody quote this post and say 'what?')

lildave3 Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Pardon? I knew it. I ****ing knew it would happen.
breadandcheese Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 But I'll take any of them against 'start the wave' when the score's 0-0! Oh **** yeah. I took great pleasure when the boos started after East Stand failed to start the wave and only wish I'd been one of the people refusing to start the wave, rather than sat a few blocks away.

Master Fox Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 I made this observation some time ago, and I was slated. Likewise... I said Dj was our best forward, I was slated. I said Fryatt was sh*t, I was slated. The list goes on... Add Lazcko is sh*t to that too. Slate me now but in a month or so you'll be comparing him to Josh Low.

Master Fox Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Congratualtions... Go fcuk yourself you little cretin.
Tommy G Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Applying the... 'Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuume' theory to you would be appropriate, perhaps - 'waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanker'
James. Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 The inappropriate use of this chant annoys me as much as the people who consistently say Hume is shit.

ronnup Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Add Lazcko is sh*t to that too. Slate me now but in a month or so you'll be comparing him to Josh Low. what you basing that on? I don't bum him like everyone else but I thought he looked great against cov and worked his arse off last night. The turf didn't let anyone play well so it was going to be 90 minutes of graft. He grafted.

I personally think its too early to tell how good player he's going to be, but at the moment I'd put him in the team.
Master Fox Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Applying the...'Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuume' theory to you would be appropriate, perhaps - 'waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanker' Right, I've never put another poster on ignore in the time i've been on this forum, which is now quite long time. But you're going to be the first. Fcuk Off. what you basing that on? I don't bum him like everyone else but I thought he looked great against cov and worked his arse off last night. The turf didn't let anyone play well so it was going to be 90 minutes of graft. He grafted. I base that on watching the games he's played. Simple really.
Ric Flair Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Why exactly is DJ our best striker? Because he left 2 defenders for dead and then screwed one wide from 10 yards, it's like getting a full bar on after finding a pair of women's knickers in your ruck sack but nothing comes of it.

Not true Ric in may case. I've been saying it all season. Howard and Hayles may prove otherwise, but Hume and Fryatt can fcuk off back to division 3.

Would rate Howard/DJ as our best prospects up front though.

Howard and Hayles may prove otherwise, but Hume and Fryatt can fcuk off back to division 3. I know you have, I was just wanted to use that analogy. I'm still not been entirely won over by DJ, but his pace is something we badly need. I rate Hume, but he's not as good as his hero status suggests. But he gives 100%, is capable of scoring some ridiculous goals and has been the most consistent player in our team for the past few seasons, which doesn't say much actually as he's often inconsistent himself.
The Stig Posted 29 January 2008 Posted 29 January 2008 Hume IMO is easily good enough for this divison. Fryatt isn't. DJ will be, Howard is as is Hayles. Hayles for me would start. I can't fault his effort, grit determination and goals. He's scored two in two home games and hit the post in one away game. I'm so far impressed when I didn't expect to be.
