Basingstoke Fox Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Great strike by Sheenan ( )Looks like he's settling in well there now, are we missing him? His free kicks and corners were superb, have we got anyone who can replicate that? Hume & Clemence are injured. Bell and Hendrie have scored some free kicks in their time from what I gather. Jury is still out on whether he'll ever be good enough to play consistently at this level IMO. Mattock at 4 years his junior is far more advanced as a full-back and will get better. Just hope we do have a player in our team who is a reliable set piece taker next season. I'm sure we will do. I absolutely adore him for his set pieces at chelsea..it shut all my mates up and ill never forget it
Thracian Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 I absolutely adore him for his set pieces at chelsea..it shut all my mates up and ill never forget it Your faith is well placed. Now he's got a manager who appreciates him and encourages him and doesn't seem to baulk at the prospect of fielding young players I'm sure he will continue to do well. Shush!, of all things, is a guy who needs people to show belief in him and persuade him to get even more out of himself. He'd had a good first part of the season but when Holloway came he used him as a permanent scapegoat. In the Megson era Shush! was an almost permanent fixture and was never substituted. When Holloway came it was soon apparent that if he wanted to take someone off it was Shush! and he soon became something of a bit part player, affecting both his fitness and confidence over time plus, doubtless, his willingness to sign an extention to his contract. When you're a young, creative, confidence player that's just the way to negate self belief, to stop them trying the things that make them what they are and to make them feel undervalued. It is aspects like this, plus questions about contradictions in what he says and about tactics which concern me about Holloway far more than his ability, or that of Penrice, to spot a player.

(a simple yes or no will do, not a full on essay)
Thracian Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 you do realise that what you say is opinion and not fact yes?? (a simple yes or no will do, not a full on essay) Fact: Six successive Championship games pre-Holloway Shush! played the full 90 minutes. Two wins, three draws and a single goal defeat to Sheffield United. Nine points from six games, plus, of course the Chelsea game when he was so influential. Indeed Shush! played well generally. Mid-table form. Fact: in a run of six successive Championship games Shush! featured in under Holloway he got a bit part in every one. He was subbed after 72 minutes, 46 minutes and 46 minutes then came on as a sub in the next three games in which he featured. Our points return of five from six became relegation standard. Those facts seem straightforward enough.

Fact: Thracian you are just as bad and equally boring.
Bryn Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 I really don't get what you mean about "continue to do well", Thracian.. Most Leeds fans say that he's been dogshit aside from two games where he has been rated a 6 and a 7.
Bryn Posted 3 April 2008 Posted 3 April 2008 Louis Dodds anyone? Been played on the left wing this season mostly. Drifts in and out of games, but has chipped in with 9 goal and won us about 7 points I think. Scored a peach against Wycombe the other week and worth a look. Played up front once for us and that was the last 20 minutes against Darlo earlier in the season and within about 30 seconds of that change, he went passed two players and hit the post! When he comes in off the wing, he causes all sorts of problems, sometimes for us though because he's so used to playing through the middle that he doesn't offer much width as we'd like but he's able to find space where the defence aren't sure whether to come out to him. I think we'll try and sign him next season because as I understand, you're not renewing his contract. I'd like to see him given more of a chance up front because he's an excellent finisher. Prior to games, the sub 'keeper goes in goal and the strikers shoot against him, and Dodds always scores! I'm confident that he'll score goals for us should he sign, and I hope he does.
The People's Hero Posted 3 April 2008 Posted 3 April 2008 This is meant as no offence to you Burnham and neither is it a comment as to the rights or wrongs as to whether he should be given a chance here.... BUT.... Get over Dodds. He ain't coming back.
Bryn Posted 3 April 2008 Posted 3 April 2008 Oh I know, I've not really thought about him, well, ever. Just a Lincoln fan randomly decided to tell me all that and I thought I might as well post it.

Most Leeds fans say that he's been dogshit aside from two games where he has been rated a 6 and a 7. Conveniently forget yesterday when he scored the winner and would probably have rated 7.5/8, the three games mentioned coming after McAllister had overseen the process of getting him properly fit by the sound of his comments. PS: Re Dodds. I can't see him coming back either.

I mentioned the 7. It's all excuses. He's been playing there regularly for enough time now for fitness not to matter. He'd had plenty of game time here as well.
The People's Hero Posted 3 April 2008 Posted 3 April 2008 The thing I love is that a half fit Kaebi is expected to pull up trees after moving thousands of miles whilst we're supposed to give Shush! months and months of chances to prove himself despite years of underachievement after a move of a few miles up the road (in the same country) when he clearly hasn't kept himself fit during the season!

He'd had plenty of game time here as well. Excuses for what? Shush!'s departure has not been my loss but the club's loss in terms of goals/assists and of a young defender with genuine attacking ability. We've not signed a lot of goals/assists to replace him either.
Flynny Posted 3 April 2008 Posted 3 April 2008 Excuses for what? Shush!'s departure has not been my loss but the club's loss in terms of goals/assists and of a young defender with genuine attacking ability. A young attacker, then? He can't defend for shit, thats the reason he's not here.

Very Good Point Sir.

We've not signed a lot of goals/assists to replace him either. Indeed. We replaced him with Clapham who did nothing of any note at Leeds and isn't doing a lot better with us. It's strange how many of the anti-AS brigade are quick to pounce on any perceived flaws on his part, yet will happily tolerate any number of fcuk-ups by certain of their favourites (hi Matty..)

There's a point, but not many were complaining when Shush! had a run in the side and provided a few assists. Looking at the PotM polls on here, he even ranks 3rd overall this season. We all know of his weaknesses, but it was premature to get rid of one of our few weapons. He would've been a handy option.
brookfox Posted 4 April 2008 Posted 4 April 2008 We might finally rid this thread of the tiresome Shush! debate after all... Leeds will make on-loan Leicester star Alan Shush!'s move permanent. (The Mirror)

"Never let us speak of him again" And we moved on to 5 essays a day on Ryan Beswick instead Funny thing about the so-awful Shush!. Allen played him, Megson played him, Holloway wanted to extend his contract and now McAllister wants to sign him permanaently. Seems a lot of people rated him for a player who's so shit. You keep the faith in Laczko and Clapham by all means. But I know this. With the fans touting Nielsen, Kaebi, Ferreira, Laczko, Clapham. Djiziri, Chambers and Hayes for our team at various times this season, I'll stick to my own judgement and give thanks that the fans don't pick the side.
