Fez of Mahrez Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 I can hear a faint droning sound in the background.
Thracian Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Alan Shush! is not good Thracian .....accept it. I'll stick to my own view thanks and hope his absence doesn't rebound on us.
filbertboy Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 As already mentioned elsewhere that I have no problem assuming the rest of the Leeds defence were outstanding in collecting three successive clean sheets. It's others who are suggesting that Shush! wouldn't have helped much cos he can't defend. And stop being so pious about the "lower league". We've already played Forest twice this year and but for the Clarke incident might well have got beaten. We've also struggled against teams who went down last year and teams at the bottom end of he Championship this year so I'm quite sure there are plenty of Division One sides who would give us a contest. just think hes found his level thats all.....just my opinion...........good night
Thracian Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 "Shush! simply isnt (a decent player) .as i said........... thats why hes playing in a lower league...simple as that." Again, ignore the truth if it suits... Shush! was loaned out to play in a lower league having refused to extend his contract with City.

Alexikokopops Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Thracian ...Im asleep Lets be fair, it's not just Thracian. The people who keep baiting him with Sheehan talk are just as bad.
filbertway Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Fair play sheeehan for the goal. Apparently he should have been sent off against Brighton last week for smashing one of their players
Unabomber Posted 1 April 2008 Posted 1 April 2008 Shush! has a good left foot but can't defend. Debate over.

Ric Flair Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Great strike by Sheenan ( ) Looks like he's settling in well there now, are we missing him? His free kicks and corners were superb, have we got anyone who can replicate that? Hume & Clemence are injured. Bell and Hendrie have scored some free kicks in their time from what I gather. Jury is still out on whether he'll ever be good enough to play consistently at this level IMO. Mattock at 4 years his junior is far more advanced as a full-back and will get better. Just hope we do have a player in our team who is a reliable set piece taker next season. I'm sure we will do.

Shush!'s had a direct say in eight goals this season and no-one in our ranks even nearly matches that. In fact it is close to the impact Hume's had as our top scorer and I've no idea why such a tally should be so disregarded, not so much by yourself, but generally. If that doesn't amount to Championship standard for a left-back I don't know what does because I don't see Leeds shipping lots of goals in the meantime and, as our defence was one of the best in the League when he played, and still is, it sure wasn't a problem here either. However, I hope you're right about Mattock - I did hope the two would be developed together if you recall - and the signs remain encouraging. To me he still makes errors of judgement in defence, particularly in dealing with long diagonal passes onto the edge of the box and is still not quite showing the consistent drive I believe he can have in attack. But it is well known that one of the biggest differences between older players and young (though not here necessarily) is consistency and even Stearman - deserving to be Player of the Year this season - has not always been on top of his game and might well have deserved to be dropped on occasions. Mattock will doubtless blow hot and cold for a while but I'll be celebrating loud and long when he plays a direct part in eight or more goals a season. He might get close eventually, but as I said at the beginning of the season, it's expecting a lot yet.

Set pieces shouldn't be looked upon any differently from goals from open play, but what my point is that those goals and assists have no bearing what so ever on his performances as a full back. I don't rate the boy as a defender. I also don't think he's as good at getting forward from open play as i'd like, but his goals and assists are a very valuable asset. I just don't know how to utilise him in a team like ours. Mattock and Shush! in the same team didn't work especially well. I'd not leave Mattock out for Shush! either, purely because although Mattock has made a few mistakes, I think he's the more complete full back from open play. He is starting to get forward very efficiently now, his crossing is getting more accurate, just wish we had some players to finish those crosses. He is also only 17, which amazes me given some of his performances. I know that if he continues to play regular first team football he'll get better and better and that's what you crave for our youngsters, to be playing regularly.

Shush! on loan in League One, Mattock being chased by top half Premier League teams, should really tell you something.
Simi Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Leeds fan on Shush!. Well, he is good at free kicks. I think he needs a lot more experience though. He is prone to panicking when he picks up the ball at the back and is being closed down, he starts going backwards and backwards and puts us into trouble sometimes. I think he's worth his place in the team at the moment.
lildave3 Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Quality free kick by Shush! last night. Still wouldn't have him ahead of Clapham/Mattock though.
Thracian Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Leeds fan on Shush!. I wouldn't say panicking was a trait of Shush!'s in the four years I've watched him but I've not seen the Leeds games so I'm not in a position to dispute what the fan has said, However, it seems funny how people here want to cite anything Shush! does wrong as a counterbalance to his worth while ignoring what people like Clapham and Mattock do wrong or don't do at all. Me I always believed Clapham's arrival and Shush!'s voluntary departure would cost us in goals/assists/dangerous free-kicks and that has proved the case, at least to my satisfaction. Clapham is exactly what I expected when not injured, a steady hand in defence at left-back. Mattock has been no surprise either and is exactly where I anticipated at this stage, an improving defender who is increasingly showing the confidence to get forward but who still doesn't have enough impact with his final touch.

Thracian Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 However it seems funny how you want to cite anything Shush! does right as a counterbalance to his failings while ignoring what people like Clapham and Mattock do right or do better than Shush! I've acknowledged his weaknesses many times on this forum. I just think I appreciate his strengths more than most and we've needed them. Still do but we're not going to get em! And seeing as I cannot convince anyone just to add a little weight to that view was this quote on the BBC site earlier today: Leeds United manager Gary McAllister has praised Alan Shush! after his winner against Doncaster Rovers. The defender, on loan from Leicester, scored his first Leeds goal with a 25-yard free kick. "He arrived having only played reserve football and it was clear his fitness wasn't up to the level we needed," McAllister told BBC Radio Leeds. "He's worked really hard to get that fitness and now we're really seeing his quality, I'm pleased for him."
Thracian Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Totally agree.Shush! on loan in League One, Mattock being chased by top half Premier League teams, should really tell you something. It tells me you must be wearing shades!
