Tbh, I want a left back, who is a defender, to DEFEND. I couldn't care less if they are a good option coming forward, what about when they lose the ball and the opposition attack down our left flank and our left back is no where to be seen?

Reminds me of Shush!.

I agree on Hume. He quite clearly is out of position and a waste of a space in the team.

You know the real way forward is to give the team time to get it right. The obvious instinct from Ollie was to play 2 wingers and 2 forwards. He hasn't yet got the right players in those positions. It isn't an easy solution. I would have played the 2 natural wingers and Hume and Howard. If the others knew that Fryatt covers hume and Hayles covers Howard for now.

The midfield should even with the players on Saturday be performing as well as any one in the Championship. I would like to see Clemence rested so that we can see Weso and Oakley.

What happened on Saturday was also that our defnce had yet again to adjust to a different formation. I say restore Stears and Mattock. They give us pace and are getting stronger all the time.

The dead ball taker must do better. None of this lumbering up to take the corners. We need someone with genuine enthusiasm that cares we are losing. The chance is there for some of the young guns to break into the team. I think that we miss Porter in those situations. Oakley might be better at least on the right.

We look really disjointed, we never seem to get any momentum on the pitch and the forwards also seem to feed on scraps!!

Holloway has asked for time, I think we are gonna have to grin and bear it this season and hopefully aviod the drop!!!

And asking when will we ever learn.

a) So much for the optimist who predicted we'd get 11 points from the next 15. I said we'd struggle to collect more than a few points and so far it's nought from six.

b) I said Gradel was our most dangerous winger and that we were crazy, in our predicament and with our desperate need for goals, to let him go back to Bournemouth instead of using him as an option. While our new wingers have scored and made nothing so far Gradel today scored another goal, his third since Bori/Laczko arrived, and helped Bournemouth to victory, and four goals to boot.

c) I said we'd generally need two goals a game to win our remaining matches. We failed to get that at Blackpool or to even threaten it and were just the same today except that we didn't score at all. Our shots on target over those two games would be embarrassingly low. We cannot continue like that and survive in this division.

d) People mocked me for saying we'd miss Shush!'s goals/assists/chance creation but where was the anticipation today when Clapham got the ball? There was none. And it was largely the same from dead ball situations. That we've exchanged Shush! or Mattock for Clapham hardly looks like an improvement and will certainly not help our "goals for" column.

e) Instead of talking about play-offs I said our inability to score sufficient goals would put us in the relegation dogfight. That is patently obvious now and I don't anticipate that solutions will be easy any longer.

f) I've said that Hume's not a winger and that playing him out wide would negate his impact as a striker. I'm not sure he had a single shot today and he a stranger in the box despite his usual 100% effort.

g) My concerns about our distribution from the back were only further highlighted today by passing that was as bad as I've ever seen it and that says something. McAuley wouldn't play the simple ball and Alnwick rarely took the throw-out option even when he had one which wasn't nearly often enough. Result? another disjointed performance where we had one 10 minute spell of football early on and another little spell when Fryatt came on near the end. Fifteen minutes of "attitude" over 90 won't get us anywhere.

Sooner or later we will have to put such things right but I'm rather beginning to fear we'll insist on learning the hard way.

Thrac - Clapham did exactly what was asked of him yesterday.

Everything he did defensively was done with confidence and calmness. I was impressed by him. Holloway isn't expecting him to be darting forward and knocking 70 yard passes about.

What he does need is a genuine winger in front of him. Yesterday he had a combination of Hayles, Hume and Bori - None genuine left wingers.

Clapham was at fault twice for their goal! He made not one but two mistakes. Halmosi looked like a world beater because Clapham allowed him to receive the ball in space. To be blunt, he was completely sh*t.

Take it you mean here where he's not very tight? If you watch how deep he is at the start of the free kick - I'd be a little worried if my left back was all the way out there.

I think what people are missing is that, whatever Clapham's defensive capabilities, that doesn't make Sheehan any better in the slightest.

I'd be happy to play Sheehan or Mattock left-wing at the minute, but our left-back has conistantly made us look vunerable and neither seem to be the answer there for now, anyway Maybe Clapham's not the answer either - doesn't mean that Sheehan would be any better.

I can sort of see Thracian's arguement with "if they both defend poorly, whack in the one who does something impressive once every half or so", however flawed it is, but with him out on loan anyway what odds does it make? Especially when we've only seen Clapham the once.

I'm glad to see we have another thread that has become a Shush!-based wankfest.

He'll have to move on eventully. What with him leaving and all, and being generally wank thus far at Leeds.

It won't stop him going on to become this and next season's Joey

Someone change that bastard broken record. I don't know whats more frustrating, reading a Thracian post or actually going down the Walkers.

Imagine going to the Walkers and realising you're in the next seat to Thracian.

Thrac i haven't even read this topic but when you're starting posts about yourself AND referring to yourself in the 3rd person, then you're probably a bit of a knob!!

Thracian serious question for you , no cheapshots or random bollocks just a question im interested in your opinion on.

Since Shush! made his city debut (under Levien perhaps) , none of the 5/6 managers we have had since have persisted in playing Sheeh an on a regular basis , is there a major weekness in your veiw to sheeh ans game that he really needs to work on if he will ever become a regular here ?

I personally cant understand letting sheeh an go just to replace him with a uninspiring aging left back but WHY does he keep getting ignored . Attitude perhaps ?

Let me be plain about Shush!. He's flawed. But so is Mattock and Clapham and so was Nils before him.

Of course he has weaknesses to work on, serious ones.

But given that the stats show our defence does just as well with him as without and given that we desperately need goals then you have to put more people in the side who might help you deliver goals.

People who don't like the guy won't admit it but Shush! creates far, far more than any of the options I've mentioned.

The same would have applied to Gradel on the wing.

What aspects of his game do u think need improving ?

The main thing I'd have worked on most would have been providing swift cover for him when he went forward and the same would apply to Mattock as well.

As an individual he's vulnerable when turned and when being run at quickly, just as Nils was and you'd need to work on improving that but also making people work closely with him to help out.

Porter has been missed enormously this season for his covering and support for colleagues.

Another thing with AS is his pace and urgency. Shush!'s an elegant player but he has to develop more urgency. He'll never be swift but I do feel more could be done.

Finally there's his mental state of mind. I'm convinced he needs to feel appreciated to get the best out of him. Allen and Megson seemed to manage that and he's still played 21 matches this season, or close to two thirds.

Maintain his enthusiasm and sense of worth and he could be such a valuable player. Confidence is so important to creative players. Gradel, Porter and King are others that need it.

Nothing I've heard from Holloway suggests he has made our young players feel confident.

Would anything considering we have been losing consistently for 4 years. Success breeds confidence.

Stearman's performance levels might be an indicator of that.

On Porter, I can help but think Holloway would love him. He's probably got more crosses into the box per game than any player we've had since we were relegated, which is pretty sad considering they were more lofted chips than actual crosses. But with Howard in the box it could have been handy this season.

If you're going to delete what Fez and I have posted, don't you think it would be reasonable to delete Thracian and Ultra's claptrap?
