joely22 Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Wouldn't surprise me one bit if you got Billy to be honest. He was interviewed for your job in the summer when Martin Allen got it. To be honest, he's a good manager at this level. But I really can't see him and MM working well together. Apparently he's an absolute twat to work with, I really can't see him staying long.

MM has proved beyond doubt that he can't work with anyone that isn't an instant success, even the one that was, Rednapp he fooked up.

Sorry, I just can't see it working out.
Thracian Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 That's not really the case at all though. Exactly what impact has Wesolowski, King or Chambers had under Holloway? I'm not saying any of them were crap, but they were playing in the teams that were getting hammered before the transfer window opened, it was painful. We've then had a slight up turn in results without these 3 and we looked slightly better. We're now seriously crap again, but I doubt bringing them back in will help. But it might be worth a go. a) I've no idea what Ashley Chambers was doing in the first team apart from a perceived lack of options so let's forget that one. b) Wesolowski was by far our best midfielder in the opening games of the season and only underperformed when he was trying to recover his match fitness after injury. c) King seemed to improve our performance on various occasions when introduced and, again, only slipped back once his fitness was lost through lack of action. d) Shush!'s been loaned out yet is still near the top of our assists table, not to mention his goals and other near thing contributions which have been painfully missed ever since. e) Gradel has been sent back to Bournemouth when we desperately need goals. He's scored six goals and has three assists in 17 starts compared to no goals and no assists fromm our imported wingers. f) Mattock was subject to a sizeable bid from a Premiership side yet finds himself sidelined for a 32-year-old basically because he made a mistake that cost us a goal and which was duplicated by his replacement in a reserve game. g) Upturn in results? Don't kid me. We were excellent against Coventry. The Norwich game we got hammered and the Palace game was dire but we got a last minute break. Other than that we've barely had a shot on target in three successive defeats. In fact Holloway's presided over two runs of three successive defeats which is unique to our managers this season and we're scoring less than a goal a game. No wonder he's reportedly offered to resign.

He was at the game. Might be injured but he didn't look it. Kept back for Saturday I'd imagine. Laczko did alright but there's no way he looked Championship class.
Daggers Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 This really is absurd. But i'm not even slightly bothered, which worries me just as much as this article. Yup. Me too. Will it improve the team? Who knows. Are we showing any signs of avoiding the drop? No. Have we demonstrated an improvement in play since IH took over? No. Some rollercoaster, huh?! It just seems to keep going down and down and down some more...

Clemence needs to be dropped for a couple of games, at least. I'd like to see King and Oakley. Mattock/Clapham for me no contest. (AlanSheehans garbage)
Daggers Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 The previous seasons have amply demonstrated that when players lack confidence and do not have anyone challenging for their positions they fail to raise their game. We should have augmented the squad more during the transfer window - and we are crying out for loanees now. The block on players in, the silence that surrounds it, is auspicious...I've been saying so for a fortnight. Why was I not surprised to read that Telegraph article!
breadandcheese Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 We should have augmented the squad more during the transfer window - and we are crying out for loanees now. I don't think for the want of trying. Our main areas crying out for improvement are the wings. We were priced out of a move for Norris and Martin turned us down. We don't know who or if we looked at others, but other clubs were in a similar boat struggling to bring players in.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 a) I've no idea what Ashley Chambers was doing in the first team apart from a perceived lack of options so let's forget that one. What? Firstly, we had no other fit strikers at the time. Secondly, you were banging on about him endlessly at the time as being a better option than Newton and Gradel - so that's what he was doing in the team.

Absolutely, although I would have said ominous - we're sinking fast MM said as the transfer window closed that we're still up for loanees and yet zilch!

I don't believe, analysing MM's comments at the time, that he was prepared to stump up the cash - in the face of evidence that we really needed it. The squad is too light on quality and any fool can see it, but MM took the decision to withdraw further financial support from IH. Just because MM said that they had tried for players doesn't mean they did and it doesn't mean they tried very hard. In light of his ridiculous spending at the beginning of the season, MM is left with a stark choice - gamble and really push the boat out or cut his loses. I believe he is gearing up for the later.

Alternatively, he was right not to throw another £2.5million at another Championship player. These players, used correctly, should be good enough (that includes players out on loan that shouldn't be). This is symptomatic of our problem. Why didn't we sign this bloke or that bloke when really - if you used the players in their correct positions and motivated them - they are definitely good enough.

The most successful sides are generally those with smaller 1st team squads with players who keep fit and play together every week

brookfox Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Backing from Milan... Leicester City chairman Milan Mandaric said today that making a third managerial change of the season was "the last thing on my mind". With City on a bad run, speculation has been rife that Ian Holloway's position could be in jeopardy, especially as Iain Dowie and Billy Davies, who were former tips for the City hot-seat, are out of work and available. But Mandaric is determined to support his manager and insists City's fortunes under him are going to change for the better. He said: "I can't stop the speculation and I can understand why it is there. "But changing the manager again is the last thing on my mind. "I think Ollie is the right man for the job and this is the time for us to support him all the way and that is what we will be doing. "I made a change at the beginning of the season because I thought things were wrong and then another manager left. What we need now is stability, not another change. "I believe we now have good enough players not only for us to get away from the bottom of the table but to get up near the top half of the Championship. "Of course, this is a difficult time, but that is the reason everyone should get together and support the team and the manager. I am sure results will get better, starting with Saturday's game against Norwich, and we can start to climb the table."
The Reverend Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 If Holloways sacked, then its the end for me.
Lisburn Fox Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 First post for a while I can't believe we are talking about yet another manager, my sixpenneth DO NOT SACK/LET RESIGN/GET RID OF/LEAVE BY MUTUAL CONSENT OLLIE. I THINK HE WILL TURN IT AROUND WE WON'T GO DOWN AND WE WILL SEE THE REWARDS IF WE STAY LOYAL FOR ONCE. MILAN LISTEN Nuff Said I wrote this before the post 2 above so if that is true well done "sorry"
Fez of Mahrez Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Right, thats it, I'm off to support Hinckley United. Thomas Out! Well that's my good deed for the day. Some chairmen, Milan among them, don't seem to realise that the manager is a figurehead for the club - more so than nearly any chairman - and that fans invest a lot in each individual appointed. I feel almost physically exhausted by our managerial changes this season. That seems a bit bizarre but this club means the world to me. You listen to the spiel, you agree with a lot of it, you are glad about most of the things said and done but the performances haven't been good. Still, surely by now someone at the top must realise that you won't get stability by changing manager every four months - and the key point is that there is no guarantee that anyone else will do any better. We look at their records elsewhere and expect them to replicate them here, just as we did with Mandaric at Portsmouth - yet there are very few people who seem prepared to let us ride out a couple of years whatever the results to try and re-establish some kind of identity. By all means we can carry on like this, randomly poaching managers at will, giving them a few months and then getting rid of them but how much faith have you got that Mandaric will find someone that will win him enough games, will play attractive football, that will not argue with him too much but will stop him bringing useless foreigners to the club? And on top of that to have fan pressure as well? Money and false hope are the only reasons any manager comes here. It's a poisoned chalice. And for all his £11million, Mandaric has done a shoddy job of trying to reach his goals. I said when he arrived that as long as things improved, then I would look back after a year and be pleased that he came along. Well we haven't improved one bit. --- Good timing that, having just read the article posted above! It's just words to me at the moment. He supported Allen days before he sacked him. I'm more inclined to believe the gutter press than Mandaric these days and that's the most worrying aspect of it all.
Joe. Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 It's mental. A new manager will not change things. Hasn't Milan realised that yet? Give the man more time. Let's just get to the end of this season, we will stay up and we'll prepare for the next. If Holloway doesn't improve next season then maybe he should consider it. But definitely not now.
brookfox Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 If Holloways sacked, then its the end for me. Me too, I'll just sit on my bed listening to "No Distance Left to Run" by Blur on repeat while sobbing onto my Fox Leisure trainers!
