If bouncebackabilty can get into the dictionary then so could Megsonating

I think he's definitely very nearly as good as Fulop, just not quite with the same "wow" factor. He only looks shakey very occasionally when he runs out to punch.

One thing is certain, we definitely need to sign a goalie permanently in the summer. If I was given the choice between Alnwick and Fulop for similar money I'd have Fulop like a shot. So confident and assured going for crosses, totally commands his area.

When Fulop went back, I must admit to havic a panic attack at Rab C Nesbitt or Hendo being recalled to the first team but Alnwick seemingly has done well (I have only actually seen two of the games "live") but his record speaks for itself.

We done to the lad although I hope we don't end up doing what we have with Fulop by not agreeing a deal before hand and then having to come up with silly money for him in a permanent deal.

People seem way too praising of this lad. He has been average to good - ive seen him make a few mistakes. The goal at Watford came initially from a mistake - he flapped at a cross that should have easily been his, their player got the ball, crossed it in and they scored. Although i am aware he made two excellent saves that under other circumstances would have been goals, i still think he should have done better.

He does also seem to have issues about coming off his line. Ive seen several times where he should have come and claimed a ball and in the end the opposition have had a chance.

However, with that said (before i get slated) i do think he is much better than anything we have, and not a bad keeper. I just feel like people seem to be a bit too praising of him.

As for signing him permenantly - im 50/50. Obviously id rather have Fulop, if we cant, then im undecided about Alnwick. Depends who else is available.

Interesting, only one or two posts mention his kicking. Normally, in any discussion about goalkeepers, no matter who they are or how good their kicking is, we get twenty idiots moaning about their kicking?

Alnwick is decent, but ala Taylor/Fulop, too good for us to sign long term unfortunately. Surprised to see people think we have any chance of signing Fulop on a perm deal??! He's way, way out of our league.

So Stoke is in his league?

Im not saying we're going to, but why is signing someone of Fulops quality out of the question?

His kicking is rubbish... every time I see him he's always sending it too far wayward of our guys and gives it away...

And I'm sorry you think that people who argue this are idiots but his kicking is poor. At times, his bad kicking has just given the ball away needlessly and that is something that needs to be worked on...

Aside from that, he seems to be fairly decent and is a presence at the back... albeit not a great one yet, he is one and that is what the team needs.

BAa is not old enough, confident enough or commanding enough for us next season. He's an on-loan, temporary fix to a problem that needs rectifying in the summer.

Posted

He's done OK - although he's not really had that much to do since he's been here though - just look at the games we've played so far and he's hardly been overworked.

I appreciate what some people are saying about how 'keepers organise their defence, but he doesn't strike me as particularly vocal or commanding.

You can't moan with 4 goals conceded in 7 - let's wait until the end of the season before we pass judgement.

Totally agree and people before were criticising Fulop for his kicking - FFS and he 'scored' at West Brom with that massive kick that everyone missed and Hume fouled the Goalie and it went in

At the end of the day though, Alnwick is very young...he's got many years to work on his kicking..He could be a great keeper for us, but surely it will be the same scenario...with Spurs wanting more than Alnwick's worth.

I've not been too impressed to be honest. Today, for their penalty (which admittedly was a dodgy decision) the long ball went over McAuley's head and Alnwick should've swept up and cleared it. Instead, he stands on his line and Leon Best outpaces McAuley to get the ball first, which by this time was in the penalty area. A commanding goalkeeper would've been off his line early and swept away the danger.

Secondly, Alnwick should've saved the penalty, especially after he went the right way. The shot was poorly struck and Alnwick dived over it.

Third, Coventry's second goal should have been saved - Alnwick palms it into the net when I think he should've pushed it away.

There was also a 25 yarder that a Cov player struck in the first half, which Alnwick spilled back into play and luckily Kisnorbo made a last ditch tackle.

Not a patch on Fulop, and hasn't warranted the praise here in my opinion.

This is the theory of inexperienced player kicking in... But you weren't complaining when Alnwick had 3 consecutive clean sheets under his bely, were you?

Why don't we have it hanging over his head in big flashing letters?

Gotta say, I was worried by him for the first time today.

The penalty he should have saved, could have done better for their 2nd (which was woefully defended) and there was a free kick in the first half where the ball just ended up straight back in the danger area.

The penalty he should have saved

The first point, I understand

The second - drink more beer or take more drugs.

Read loads of posts on here saying he should have saved the pen.To me when a team get a pen i expect them to score,if the goalie saves,it's a bonus to the defending side.So i wouldn't blame him for that.I would like to see him play a game when he didn't kick it straight out of play to the left though!

To get a touch on a poorly taken penalty, then let it under your body, should be saved. Should've saved their 2nd as well.

I sat in row D, just behind the goal. In the first half I never heard him shout. There was alot of waving but I'd want a keeper to be more vocal, it lead to abit of confusion a couple of times between the defenders and alnwick.

As for the penaltly, you could take the best keeper in the world and a keeper from a pub team and they would have the same chance of saving it. Its just luck

Not impressed personally, When he has been tested he has been found wanting.

2 of the defeats (watford and plymouth) in the last 4 the winning goals were down to him, henderson would've been strung up by people on here if he'd have done that in those games.

Think he should've done better with the pen too yeasterday.

I'm not saying henderson should be playing, far from it, but i don't think alnwick is that good at the moment.
