Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 In his first seven games for us he has conceded four goals. Obviously our defence have been playing very well recently which has contributed to that but no more so than when Fulop was here, especially when we were Megsonating teams with seven or eight defenders in the lineup. He was excellent at Norwich, albeit lucky not to get sent off for an off-the-ball incident, and we have looked very solid at home, conceding just one goal since he arrived. People are saying he hasn't had a lot to do but the memory of those QPR and Southampton horror-shows will live with me for a long time. The defence looked shambolic in its lack of organisation and faith in its goalkeeper. Well done to the bloke.

I wonder if we might get him permanently?
Sods Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Agreed. He has been so commanding and a real asset. I hope we can get something permanent but how likely is this? One thing i do like about Alnwick is 'he gets into the game'. I love just watching his reactions after we have scored or missed a great opportunity or made a lovely attack. He looks just like a fan and he looks like he is really enjoying it here which is great.

Yes, he was good but we have an equally good keeper on our books now. I'm happy with him so far.
Ric Flair Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Alnwick has done very well since he's got here, the fact he's not been called upon as much as Fulop was, is testiment to the organisation of our team and the goalie has a big say in making sure the players in front of him are communicating, especially near our penalty box. Fulop as a shot stopper, was absolutely superb and some of his saves for us are as good as anything i've seen from a goalie in the 17 seasons i've been watching football. I would have and would still love him to sign for us permanently, but Alnwick so far has a far better record than Fulop and i'd be over the moon if we could sign him permanently as an alternative. We should all be very thankful that we've managed to get 2 goalkeepers to play for us this season that aren't ours, because if we hadn't of done, I have no doubts we'd be in the bottom 3 if Paul Henderson or Casino Jimmy were first choice.
WetFlannel Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Very good goalkeeper. My only concern is that I'm not too confident of retaining him, as he's a young promising goalkeeper playing at a team which has their own goalkeeping worries.

Exactly. It's no coincidence that we have been a bag of shit generally yet still have one of the best defensive records in the division.
Koke Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Better goal difference than 3rd placed Bristol City. Ha.

If bouncebackabilty can get into the dictionary then so could Megsonating
Babylon Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 sorry can we stop the positives and focus and how we lost out on fulop.
The People's Hero Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 sorry can we stop the positives and focus and how we lost out on fulop. You're such a Leicester fan. It never would've been this bad under Little. etc etc.
syston_fox Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Better goal difference than 3rd placed Bristol City. Ha. I bet they're looking down at us with envy!
Joe. Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 Was a good signing from Holloway, I think many of us wondered if we'd be able to find a replacement that was near enough as good as Fulop. So far he's done very well for us in what I've seen and it wouldn't surprise me if his move was made permanent at the end of this season. He hinted at it as soon as he came here.
AyewJoking Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 How do you pronounce his name? Is it aln-wick or annick? I dont want to lose face with the chav's in the kop.

Simon Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 The lad's done well. He looked shaky when he first came in but he's better now; especially with his judgement on crosses. Although I still think he should come for some that he doesn't, it is much better to stay on your line and not come then come half way then change your mind. That's a sure-fire way to bugger your defence up. And as you all say, his communication and organisation of the back four is excellent. As for Fulop, the only reason I wrote in that thread was because I think Keane was and still is being a cock. I'm more than happy that we have Alnwick.
Darkzzz_ Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 I would take him on a permanent basis to be honest!!

I can't comment on Southampton but at QPR it was clear the defence had no faith in Henderson and we suffered for it. It's no coincidence our defence has been a lot more solid since we got Alnwick in on loan.

Say, that's some purty hair you got there. How did a boy like you get such purty hair? You been using that Head and Shoulders, boy? That hair sure is purty.

But he is a very good goalkeepr and still young so has plenty of time on his side to develop to get even better.
Manwell Pablo Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 He's better than Henderson. Then again thats hardly difficult. Alnwicks young and can improve, still not really seen that much of him tbh, he's made a few good stops, let in a couple of goals he shouldn't of. Jurys still out for me.
sdb Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 i don't think he's as reliable or commanding as Fulop, but he's a good keeper at this level. I'd still do all i could to get Fulop in the summer if i were Ollie. £2 mill should do and would be a good price for all involved imo
RowlattsFox Posted 22 February 2008 Posted 22 February 2008 If we do get the opportunity to sign him in the summer then i think we should, I don't think he will ever be first choice at Tottenham so he might be looking to move. There are areas that he can improve on, catching, directions of kicks etc but there is definitely signs of good keeper in him. The defence know what he is going to do the majority of the time so his communication skills must be good. If we were to sign him though, i would like us to sign an experienced keeper who would be an able deputy because Alnwick is young and wll go in and out of form.
