Basingstoke Fox Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 Doesen really bother me whether they have concerts it will be good to get more money in but if the stadium crumbles i will be fuming But they could move the kop and possibly improove the acoustics?
davieG Posted 17 March 2008 Author Posted 17 March 2008 To be fair he might have had his house longer than the ground has been planned there (dunno how old the houses are in that area, am willing to be set straight) and to be called a Dr is his right, plus it's his legal title, and Mr isn't. Bot a football ground has been within a 150 metres of the Walkers since circa 1891. Even if the houses were as old as the football history he wouldn't have been around then. Assuming he's no more than 60/70 in the 50s & 60s they had crowds of in excess of 40,000 at Filbert St, admittedly most walked or biked it but there was much less car traffic around then generally. The gradual increase in car transported fans will have increased at the same rate as traffic on the road in general. So he has more justification in complaining about Narborough Road turning into a shopping precinct and attracting car transported shoppers than he has about the football crowds.
DB11 Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 any rock group would be stupid to play at the walkers after a couple of songs they'd forget how to finish Get your coat I found it funny
Chromophobia Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 i don't really see how anyone but the people who it's going to make a shit load of money can think it's a good idea. The music will be awful anyway? Kasabian? I'd rather have my testicles clamped to a rusty lamp post thanks.

Not obvious to me, Daggers, considering I don't and never have lived in Leicester and I was little whenever I went to Filbert St and as such don't really know 100% where it was, and further more have no idea where that road the man lives on is.
Foxes_Trust Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 After people at the club said our stadium was unfit to hold concerts as it wasn't safe enough because of standing and dancing, this story surfaces. It's an absolute joke, really. I know this will probably be read by official figures at the club, but I'm beyond caring now. Full of lies. Ground regulations will almost certainly be broken on a universal basis when these plans get the green light, but no doubt that won't stop our stewards, and the big (in the literal sense of the word) man upstairs from treating us like criminals if we continue to stand. It's all about fucking revenue, the fat-cats behind the scenes don't really have a leg to stand on but continue to refuse active debates / exploration on an issue which they are constantly being pressed about and forced to deal with. Very unhappy with this news. We raised this point with the club when Concerts & Safe Standing were both on the agenda at around the same time a couple of years back. At the time Tim Davies acknowledged that it made no sense how it was ok in the venue one day but not the next, however if the ground share had gone ahead standing would have been allowed for rugby but not football, due to the ground rules applied to each game.

Rod Stewarts concert at Cov only broke even, if not properly promoted the concerts will lose money, so the club better sharpen up it's act on this one or run as a venue charging a fee & let the professional promoters take the risk
Raj Posted 17 March 2008 Posted 17 March 2008 Its been discussed before aint it??? As much chance as these concerts taking place as City winning back to back games!!!!
Finchy Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Kasabian at the Walkers, ****in ace!! Support from The Displacements or someone.

Same old, same old. Tim Davies leaving this club will just make things run around in circles again, sadly.
C.J Posted 18 March 2008 Posted 18 March 2008 Kasabian have already said they'd love to play there. If they did, it'll be F***ing awsome!!!! I cant see the problem really, its basically the same design as COVSCUM's ground and they have concerts there. From memory they dont have any exits at ground level and that was the reason stated before for not having concerts at our ground. But we do!!!
davieG Posted 19 March 2008 Author Posted 19 March 2008 WALKERS' STADIUM CAN NOW HOLD POP CONCERTS - However, a bid to hold fairgrounds on the club car park was turned down - Bugger!!!! 10:30 - 19 March 2008 Football club bosses have been given the go-ahead to hold pop concerts at the Walkers' Stadium - but only for three years. Councillors last night agreed to give Leicester City Football Club temporary permission to hold up to six concerts a year. The club had been asking for permanent permission so it could justify spending around £200,000 on improvements to the ground. The stadium is safe for 32,000 football fans, but is currently unfit to host major pop concerts, as dancing in the stands could cause it to crumble. Councillors on the city's planning committee said only temporary permission should be given in case there were more problems with parking and noise for residents. They also said the club should have to pay a contribution towards the cost of parking wardens. Committee member Councillor Robert Wann said: "If there are any further issues of noise or parking difficulties, we have the right to bring it back to the committee." Councillor Hussein Suleman said: "The club is an important part of our city and we will support it but not at the expense of the residents." However, a bid to hold fairgrounds on the club car park was turned down. The club will still have to agree travel and transport plans with the council before concerts.

davieG Posted 19 March 2008 Author Posted 19 March 2008 There is something deeply erotic about the word circa. Hmmmmm I'd better not use it again whilst you're around then Well in my case it just meant I wasn't 100% certain about the date
20mj08 Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Kasabian for the first gig anyone? i think that will have to be done
MPH Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Well i live very near to the ground. work at the royal infirmary and have absolutly no objections at all to concerts being held at the Walkers. It will raise the profile of the city, give Leicester a bit more cash and its not like it will happen every weekend - we are talking about 6 times a year max. I'm more worried about the hordes of car booting women mid 50's roaming around the ground un-policed un sundays.... lock up anything over 2 years old and breakable... or at least put a price sticker on them....
Webbo Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 I'll be amazed if there is more than 1 concert. Derby and Cov have both struggled to break even and the club must know this. This just doesn't make sense.
Daggers Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Still, at least the pitch can't be any more ****ed up.
davieG Posted 19 March 2008 Author Posted 19 March 2008 Am I the only one concerned about this! However, a bid to hold fairgrounds on the club car park was turned down. 5 years of shite at the Walkers I've put up with and the only thing that has kept me going was the thought that at least we will get a fair now and again. I'm so gutted about this!!!
Flynny Posted 19 March 2008 Posted 19 March 2008 Most importantly - do we get to switch the Kop and the Family Stand yet?
