clazkel Posted 27 April 2008 Posted 27 April 2008 Clapham centre back?! Actually your probably right, it would be better with Stearman centre back and Chambers on the right (drop Clapham), but then again i like Stearman on the right as he gets forward alot and looks dangerous. So it might be best to go for: ---------------------Hendo--------------------- Stearman----N'Gotty----McAuley---Mattock Bell--------Weso--------Hendrie-------Hayles -----------Hume------Fryatt----------------
breadandcheese Posted 27 April 2008 Posted 27 April 2008 Being generous and counting Fryatt that's just two potential scorers in a game you want to win? If Holloway gets sacked you could be the next City manager. I hear what you're saying but we need to face up to the reality that Stoke have better players than us. Not one of our players would get in their starting eleven. Basically, we need to try and play the game tactically, which with Holloway in charge means we've got no chance, but we have to try and nullify their threats and then try to create some of our own. With Cresswell pushing up to join the front two when he can, that should leave Bell with a bit of space to run at their left-back. We need to exploit that. Equally, with Mattock offering a more defensive option on the left to help keep Lawrence quiet, that should give Clapham a bit of licence to push forward a bit more, so I'd hope to see that. Stoke have some big strong defenders, which is why I think it might be worth starting with Fryatt to get him to drop off a bit, whilst Hume can hustle and bustle. If Matty is as ineffective as he's been all season for us, then swap him for Howard or DJ, depending on whether pace or more strength is the better option. In the centre, I can't really see Weso or Oakley getting to many chances to really push forward, bearing in mind they'll have a hell of a midfield battle to disjoint Stoke and break up play.
Ultra Posted 27 April 2008 Posted 27 April 2008 I don't think our midfield couldn't win the ball yesterday, I just believe a gap developed between defence and attack once Kisnorbo went off, a gap that's developed before and robbed us of cohesion. Please trust me about Worley. If he improves in time, fine, but for now he'd be a worse risk than our old friend Kaebi. I'm not anti N'Gotty I just think he's rusted and lost his sharpness with the way he's been used at Leicester and simply looks a bit vulnerable now. The Campbell situation seems strange. I'm very confident about the information I've mentioned on his injury but he played for the reserves in the week before his appearance in the Wednesday game and was all action for 90 minutes. So, pending operation or not, I wouldn't feel especially concerned. Given that he hardly touched the ball during the 20 minutes or so he was on yesterday, I don't think he's an option at the moment. If Sappleton and Chambers continue scoring goals for fun in midweek, I'd be tempted to bring either or both into the squad.

Perhaps because he was on the wing and all our passes/hoofs were directed at Howard and McAuley.

He scored and made a goal in the reserves and looked a real handful. I don't remember him getting much of an opportunity on Saturday and our team looked progresively more uncertain and disjointed anyway. Ashley Chambers hasn't scored for fun in the first team previously and I don't suppose Sappleton would. You have to remember that King and Beswick supply the ammo in the reserves - often along the floor - with non-stop Billy McKay being a further link. They wouldn't get anything from the left in the first team and far too much from the right is aimed in the air at Howard. Sappleton is big but not especially tall and not a good jumper. His big strength is when he gets a spare yard on the floor when, like Arthur Rowley, he doesn't half whack the ball. Whether he's quick enough or clever enough to win that yard in the Championship I have serious doubts but am not without hope.

The current numpties in the first team would be off to fields new allowing this lot to spearhead our push for promotion along with a couple of signings. I must say, it's a scenario I wouldn't be averse to.
C-man Posted 27 April 2008 Posted 27 April 2008 HaylesWeso Hume Mattock Stearman 5-a-side? At least we might actually score!

Corky Posted 27 April 2008 Posted 27 April 2008 HaylesWeso Hume Mattock Stearman Is it 5-a-side mate?
Nath. Posted 27 April 2008 Posted 27 April 2008 Henderson (Solid since he came back, something of a penalty specialist! Confidence in Hendo back up to 99%) Stearman (Improved no end this season!) N'Gotty (We have to face it, no one else to play CB against a strong Stoke squad) McAuley (One of the first names on the team sheet!) Mattock (Better than Clapham, but no doubt Clapham will play!) Bell (Looked decent, but needs DJ and Hume to link up with, not ****ing Howard!) Oakley (Solid for the majority of the time he's been here) Weso (How good did he look Saturday!) Hayles (Quite decent in midfield, him or Hendrie!) Hume (Bad penno miss, but him and DJ would be dangerous) DJ (Better than the worst signing of the season, Howard) Subs: Alnwick, J Chambers, Kishishev, A Chambers, Sappleton. I'd love to see the likes of Chambo and Sappleton get a chance, A hat trick each last week in the reserves, It was only oldham, fair enough, but still, youth players grabbing hat tricks at reserve level football, sounds good enough for a chance in the first team!
Sods Posted 27 April 2008 Posted 27 April 2008 5-a-side? At least we might actually score! Is it 5-a-side mate? You mean we have been playing 6 others! My word i thought we was just making it even. To be fair though thats a cracking 5-a-side team Hayles in goal. Magic.
Candidcamera Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Henderson Stears McAuley N'Gotty (it is not easy to get match fit when you haven't played for ages) Mattock Bell Oakley Weso King Chambers (young one) Hume We need pace against Stoke and willing runners in midfield. Last thing is to pack the defence.

Fat Ron Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 I dont think it makes any difference as to what the starting line up is, Ollie proved yet again on Saturday that he will continue to tinker with the tactics and players Roles. Hume was by far the most effective player on the pitch and he swapped him with Hayles , then fair enough his head went a little after his spot miss but he is the kind of player that CAN change a game, Ollie obviously doesnt think so and replaced him and hayles with DJ & Fryatt, leaving Howard on All I hope now is that Southampton can save our blushes. I can not wait for this season to be finished

Tabou Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 Haven't we got something like 34 squad members? I think we should field all of them. At the same time. Then we might, and I stress, MIGHT, salvage a point.
somebum Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 1. Tom 2. Dick 3. Harry 4. Abdul 5. Jeff 6. Pete 7. Mohammed 8. Stevie 9. Timmy 10. Ben 11. Gurpreet Manager: Krusty the Clown

maddog Posted 28 April 2008 Posted 28 April 2008 We need some fooking wingers as Ollie would say, so lets hope he wakes up and decides to play Zsolt and Bori. They won't feel the pressure as much as other players being foreign and on loan. Play N Gotty just in front of the defence, where he played a lot better in the home defeat to Hull. For fook sake drop Howard, start with Hume and Campbell up front.
