FilboFox Posted 1 May 2008 Posted 1 May 2008 We need pace up front... I know what Ollie is trying to do with the team and it could work but just doesn't at the moment as confidence is low in the players... SO, perhaps he should try looking into getting a 4-3-3 which might well turn the fortunes of this club on the last day, saving our season. ----- GK - Henderson DR - Chambers DC - Stearman DC - McAuley (Could Clapham play DC, if so, I'd give him a shot over this donkey any time!) DL - Mattock MCR - Hendrie MCC - Oakley MCL - Wesolowski FCR - Hume FCC - Hayles (Means that he doesn't have to do the running and DJ and Huuuuume can work hard, as they do, and supply him with the chances.) FCL - Campbell I think that this team has more chance of being aggressive going forward and could open up teams whilst keeping their shape and remaining tight at the back. We really do need to look into buying a good centre back though and a good keeper who commands the back line and is strong in goal too... Fulop
Bluenose76 Posted 1 May 2008 Posted 1 May 2008 In Jan didn't Holloway say something along the lines of "Judge me when I hae bought my own players in" So hardly a knee jerk reaction to judge him now is it? How long can you go on making excuses for someone when we can all see his failings. The moment he slated the players in public was the day that they probably lost respect for "his methods" Hardly a motivational technique used in management guides is it? How can he stay if he takes us down? Its a sign of failure in my book. Remember he took Bristol Rovers down as well.
henders69 Posted 1 May 2008 Posted 1 May 2008 as a PAFC supporter, i come in peace. FWIW my view on Holloway is: he only got a sniff of the LCFC job on the back of his "success" at Plymouth. it is fair to say that he was adored at PAFC and we probably had the best team we have had in 20+ years but luck played a massive factor in getting that team together. Holloway did a great job in getting Ebanks-Blake and in signing Hayles (who was brilliant for us) BUT he inherited a team that had solid foundations with no dead wood (built by Pulis), had three really good players in Norris, Buzsacky and Nalis and then the key piece of good fortune was the acquisition of Halmosi, Timar and Seip. Holloway took these on on a gamble (hadn't seen any of them play) and they all turned out to be brilliant. He ended up with a superb side. Unfortunately, his massive ego then took over and he started to make decisions and demands outside of his brief, i think he then saw the potential break up of the team (which has happened) and Mandaric's interest was a convenient and lucrative get-out for him. At LCFC he had to do much more of a team pruning and rebuilding job, i think it has proved well beyond his capabilities and he has been found out. I hope that you guys stay up, i hope that holloway gets sacked and that he inherits the reputation he deserves, that of an arrogant, stupid self-publicist who cannot be trusted and who hasn't the ability to manage a CCC club. I think he will struggle to get another job above league 2. Anyway good luck on Sunday and I hope its bye bye Southampton.

Holloway walked into a dire situation here, loads of dead wood, shit players on big wages (see Carl Cort) and generally a club in a big mess with no stability and no solid foundation. To his credit, he got rid of most of the dead wood, signed some decent players at this level, and put a balance into the team (something we haven't seen since Lord knows when). He's brought in David Bell, who has shown that he's a quality players, and Lee Hendrie who's done wonders for us, and Matt Oakley & Steve Howard, who both was instrumental last season, but it just hasn't worked for them. Most people will look beyond all those fact when slating the man. I'm not saying Ollie has done a great job per se, but he walked into a club in complete and utter turmoil and now we do look a half decent outfit. So come the summer, we don't need a clear out, just a few additions to the squad and we'll be able to compete in whatever division we are in.
Number 6 Posted 1 May 2008 Posted 1 May 2008 I personally think IH has to be given a chance next season, whatever league we are in, though I just can't see it happening. I do think he talks too much to the press and mouths off a little too much, something you don't see the top managers doing. However, he has been proven to be a good manager (in this league at least) and our club is in such a state that the building process is going to take more than half a season. I can't see MM sticking with him though. If we go down MM will presume a new manager will obviously do better, and then probably sack him after 5 games when we are 10th or something. If we stay up I think IH will be given a chance but I am worried as I think MM will expect play-offs at least next season. A lot of our fans would probably come to the same conclusion, but let's say this now, if we stay up this season, we will not go up next. In fact, it wouldn't be good for us, look at Derby, They went up too early and have struggled as a consequence, will probably lose their best players who have now been seen by big clubs, and probably won't go back up for a few years at least. The best thing that could happen for us would be to stay up and consolidate it with a mid-table finish next season (12th ish). Since coming to this division we have been in the last third for the majority of that time, flirting with relegation for long periods. A mid-table finish would show improvement, and give us something to build on, I am afraid MM won't let this happen though, he gave us money but I think is ruining our club.

When Holloway arrived I don't think his prime task was to build for the future - he showed scant regard for "the future" anyway in his use or non use of Shush!, King, Beswick, Weso, Mattock. With our club lying around 17th in the table what Holloway was asked to do was save our season, in other words lift us up to some sort of respectability. His signings were meant to do that. People like Howard, Hayles, Clapham, Hendrie, and Oakley weren't investments in or building blocks for the future, they were Mr Fix-Its. Well, irrespective of Sunday's results they haven't fixed anything. Our team is four places lower in the table, in desperate danger of going down, has failed to score so many times it's embarrassing, has recklessly thrown points away on occasions, has been tactically naive at times and worse than all that... Our so-called star signings have only shone at about 25% of their expected wattage. That worries me because Holloway is the manager and if three or four of HIS main signings are failing to respond to HIS ledership that's cause for concern. Furthermore when posters mention instructions being ignored, people like Kishishev having to lap the training pitch on his own, when I see quality youngsters being sidelined for people who've given no indication they are good enough for Leicester I am not impressed one bit. Holloway's job was simple. To lift the team above 17th before the end of the season. He's had 35 matches to do that with one more Sunday and, already, he's failed to do it. And failed by producing results which are as bad as any manager in our history. More of the same? It might appeal to some but it doesn't appeal to me. As I've said, Holloway is too cautious. We need someone who can blend our youth players with others to produce an exciting, attacking team. I don't see any signs that Holloway will give us that.

I still maintain he is building for the future, the nature of the job has caused him to look for 'Mr Fix-Its' because of a trigger happy chairman, and maybe that's not his forte. You have also massively underestimated the size of the job that was put in front if him. It certainly wasn't 'simple' to lift us out of the mess we were in. No-one has managed it since Adams left, which proves how difficult a job it is here.

You make it sound as if he had no chance of fielding a winning team with the massive squad he had on arrival plus the ten players (I think) he's signed since. Why that should be I don't know. Ten players is almost a team in itself and our 10 wouldn't have come cheap. Underestimated the job? I'd say it was harder to fail than succeed.

It's not an impossible job by any means, but certainly to think we are guaranteed success because of money or status, is naive. Yes we haven't won enough games against the clubs around us, but this is the most competitive league in the country, the top teams have been throwing points away to lower clubs, no result is guaranteed. IH walked into this club when it had no morale, no confidence, no stability and were in desperate need of a run of wins. We haven't been able to get that and IH has to partly take the blame of course, but who do you seriously think could do a better job? This is an extremely tough league, out of the teams that came down last season 2 of them can still go up, though it would have to be through play-offs. We finished 19th last season, over-inflated expectations caused people to be unrealistic, and then these same people expect a manager to turn the team around in half a season, it's ridiculous. The January transfer window is not as big an opportunity as it may seem, it's there for panic buys, and the real team building cannot start until the summer.

Is that not what Holloway should have been able to do?

I was also expecting us to be in a better position then where we are now, I definitely wasn't expecting relegation, but I think IH needs a summer, not that he will get it.

In some ways I'm fully inclined to agree with you Thracian. I have backed Ollie all the way until the game on Saturday. Everyone including the players knew what an important game this was. I thought that during the game it became apparrent that Ollie felt that he was out off his depth. When he should have been on the touchline he sat in the dugout. When he should have been in the dugout he was on the touchline!! As for his substitutions and tactics, the majority of fans found bewildering. As many people have already pointed out he has had 35 games in which to mould our team into a more potent force and has failed miserably. Yes like many people I do believe that stability is the key, however at what cost? If by some quirk of fate we do manage to stay up I feel that Milan should replace him at the earliest opportunity. This then gives the new manager all of the summer to evaluate the squad as a whole and bring in any needed replacements. Just hope and pray that for once Milan gets someone decent who could do a good job. Sorry folks but I say at this present moment in time OLLIE OUT.

Simi Posted 1 May 2008 Posted 1 May 2008 we should get billy davieshe knows a good derby player when he sees one better tactics than Hollow Tits Before we signed Oakley and Howard 99% of our fans would of jizzed over the prospect of them playing for us. The captain of a promotion winning side and their top scorer. You couldn't ask for much more to be honest. Better tactics is also debatable. Davies is known for hoof-ball, something the majority (including myself) have moaned about, but it wouldn't stop some fans saying "get him in" and then fast changing their minds when we don't win the league after four games.
