Motorbikes are brilliant

I only did my CBT a couple of months ago and I have a Honda cbf 125, I'm going to use this for road experience and do my full test by the end of the year hopefully. I love being on the bike though and I can't wait to get a proper one. At the minute my dream bike is one of these

Good lad. You can't beat the Honda 125's. If I were you, I'd build up gradually. Maybe make your next bike a 600, them move up as you feel more at ease on bigger stuff.

Ive known quite a few lads who have passed their full bike test, then within a month or so gone out and bought a GSX 1000 or something, without having a clue how to ride it.

Thanks for the advice Col, yes that's what I plan to do. I'd probably be that guy who goes flying of a 1000cc the same day I bought one, I know people are lucky to get second chances with bikes so it's better to fully prepare myself.

You wouldn't go from a Fiesta 1.1. to a 4 litre V8 Ferrari, so it seems nuts to take the same performance jump in a bike just because you can afford it.

I read back what I put and I meant that I planned to go for the 600 or similar, I realise now that I sounded like I was desperate to get the 1000cc one lol

I bet it has - looks so good.... decision now is are you riding it or showing it or both.... I can only imagine getting caught in a rain shower and the polishing and fuming and spitting cleaning it up when you get home!

I am actually nervous taking it out as the wet tarmac and gravel dressing is vogue at the moment for road repairs around here, and it's stone chips that worry me not so much the rain. I will probably take it to a few Bike meets and any local classic bike shows, she's 22 years old now so just about creeps into that category.

I mean, if I had that kind of money (and for some reason was driving a 1.1 Fiesta), I absolutely would.

If I was you I would consider attending a 'Bike Safe' day with the local Police will help you with road craft skills.

If anybody's insurance is up for renewal try these, they are mainly bikers who own the company and I'd be surprised if anybody gets a better deal elsewhere - they also don't mind a bit of haggling and setting them budgetary targets for what you want to pay...

I have no affiliation, they were recommended to me through a specialist bike forum - just had a good experience saving me over £200.... and they chucked in Full RAC cover Europewide for £20... yes £20...

Oh dear. Nick, are you the type of biker who buys big bikes as toys and goes blasting around the countryside making lots of noise and aggravating everyone else on the road by pulling wheelies at lights?

I didn't have you down as that type of biker?

:o

I don't really go into towns on my bike or on foot if I can help it! I do blast around the countryside, do prefer fair weather riding as basically my tyres are near slicks and do the odd track day and sometimes (well often to be fair) when pulling on to the A5 on a sunny day do find that my front wheel raises in the first three gears up until about 120 but I'm no city based 1K'er, no.

Spent a few hours today tazzing round the track and followed works riders testing some Triumph bikes ...    brilliant watching them crank the bikes down and scraping those knee pads when you are about 20 yards behind ...     felt a bit safer with 4 wheels underneath me.

How much did it cost to do your CBT and was it difficult?

Been thinking about doing it but i've never ridden a bike before.

It cost £99 down in Cornwall but I'm sure it'll be around that price wherever. I hadn't ridden a bike or a moped before I did mine, I asked to do it on a geared bike too. It's so worth doing, I wouldn't say it's difficult, it's just getting used to how to control the bike. It's not a test either, just a training day.

Cool.  I live in Cornwall so would you recommend where you did it?

It was at a place called Dameralls in Indian Queens. Yes, they were pretty helpful and informative.
