Decent Hotels

I'm planning to go away on my birthday and wondering if anyone knows of a really nice hotel they have stayed in, in either of the areas mentioned. I've been looking at MacDonald and De Vere hotels so far, dont really want to pay over £100-£120 for a room though.

Macdonald Hotels are usually really good, though can't speak for the one in York.

Last time I stayed in York it was at the Marmaduke Hostel. 4 poster bed and (I think, if remembering correctly) including breakfast for some ridiculously cheap price. Definitely reccomend it, and it's near the town centre. Very very good for the price. Can't find a website for it now though. Try Hostelworld.

They don't have a gym though Tommy, sorry to disappoint.

Seriously though, i've been to york a few times, one of the best hotels i've stayed in is the queens hotel. \they have a website but I usually ring as the website always says it's fully booked, the number is 01904 611321!!!

If you want somewhere RIDICULOUSLY posh, I went here with me missus just after Chrimbo:

It wasn't crazy expensive, but it's so posh we really did feel quite uncomfortable. The Astra looked very out of place in the car park, I felt quite sorry for it. Worst of all, no tea making faciliites - room service would bring one to you for a fiver.

Lake District hotels are usually full of old people. Go camping, it's much more fun

Also if you are going Lakes which is beautiful try Keswick as its less populated and less touristy!

The Mrs took me away to York earlier in the year. We stayed at The Churchill just outside the city gates. Had a four poster in the room. Nice place. It was about £120 for the room I think.

Nagoya Country House

Me and Bird stayed here when we spent the weekend in Bowness. Great little place, we had a seperate entrance to our room, nice breakfast, very friendly hosts. Not particularly posh but who cares. Five minute walk to the town centre and Lake Windermere and close to loads of fantastic walks...

This place was lovely - The Sawrey Hotel, Ambleside

To get to it you had to drive onto the ferry across Windermere, it's a cracking journey - and then there is the fantastic location for trips out. Well worth it. The best bit is that it isn't one of those all-alike hotel chain rooms, it has character. It was a couple of years back we stayed there - but check out the website anyhow.

Isn't that code for grotty and horrible? :P

I just know SUAS will be using that at some point in the future, as long as it has a paedophile owner.
