Hullfox Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I cannot believe that Fez had the audacity to cut and paste my PM to him and serve it up as his own post. Tw@t.
Rich Fox Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 Wrong.I've read this far too many times today. Regardless of Holloway's previous record and reputation as a manager, he relinquished the honour to manage us through his own bad decisions. His position was untenable, we have a new start now and a chance to start from scratch with an achievable goal in our sights and a brand-new approach. The stakes are too high now to stay wallowing in self-pity over other managerial targets or "win percentages". Let's consign all our previous managers to the past and give Nigel Pearson the backing that will in turn give him the best chance of getting us promoted. BLUE ARMY Nice one talk about state the bloody obvious.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 June 2008 Author Posted 20 June 2008 Nice one talk about state the bloody obvious. You really are a constant ray of light. If you read the Pearson thread through, there are loads of posts saying we might as well have kept Holloway.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 I can understand people being pissed off though - mean Nigel Pearson doesn't really get the imagination going does it? But maybe he can bring it round - remember start of last season, Allen was being all weird and funny, we'd signed a load of decent players (according to a lot of people on here - some even thought Carl would get 20 goals for us!) and this site was a buzz with the potential of a promotion push for the prem. So if Nigel can do that, hopefully thats the start of something good for us - if the fans feel it, then surely the players will feel it too. But let's not kid ourselves either - he wasn't Milan's desired choice really, it was just none that he wanted were available/interested etc so if things start going badly for him I can't see him lasting long.
iancognito Posted 20 June 2008 Posted 20 June 2008 In the Pearson thread I said that we as well have kept Holloway. This doesn't mean that Pearson won't get my full backing, just that after weeks of speculation and apparently 20 or more names applying, I was expecting someone with experience of the division or the track record of getting teams promoted. It's impossible to argue either way that Pearson is better or worse than Holloway or who would have done better but.... We're on the march with Nigel's Army We are gonna win the league And we'll really shake em up when we win the paintpot cup we're the greatest football team Go go Gadget optimism!

I disagree. It's impossible to tell whether MM wanted other targets for definate either way. All he did, or appeared to do, if we are to believe the media, was approach other managers, whether in work or not, to make his search as extensive as possible. He was just doing his job and being as thorough as possible. The fact that Ince turned him down publically does not make him his desired choice, nor does it suggest that he wanted him here for definate in the first place. He's pretty much exhausted all possible options and has made what he believes is the best way forward for all concerned. Let's get behind the manager and the team. That's what counts.

One of two things must have happened... one: Nigel Pearson was interviewed before the Ince saga, so if he was that good why wait for a couple of weeks? two: Nigel Pearson was interviewed after the Ince saga - so wasn't first in the frame. Had we spoken to Ince and he said yes - he'd be here now.

Chrysalis Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 keep holloway? no chance. He made bad decisions one after the other and did the unthinkable got us relegated to where we havent been before, lost the faith of the fans and the chairman.

BLUE ARMY Agreed that's all us true fans can do and always will do! yes we may not have been overly excited by this appointment, yes he may have not been 1st choice with us...BUT we just get on with it and support our team and back the manager till a time we cannot back him anymore and who knows lets pray that time may never come! I say that as we are bound to be abit weary after what has gone on lately, but we just need to get some optimism back now and lets see what Pearson can do! So people stop ya moaning, stop ya pipe dreams of managers that were NEVER gonna come and lets just get on with it now and lets see what happens, plain and simple!

Largely agree with this and would say that I don't have the same negative feelings for Pearson that I had for Holloway even before he started. Pearson should be allowed time to give it a go and let his record do the talking.

It's impossible to argue either way that Pearson is better or worse than Holloway or who would have done better but.... I agree with that. I can't pretend I wasn't disappointed . Pearson has no track record of success so how people can know that he is better than Holloway I don't understand, only time will tell. As always I will support the team, look for positives and if Pearson turns out to be worse I won't come on here saying I told you so.
smokey Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 I disagree. I would have felt more confident with Holloway in charge and get us promoted than I do with Pearson in charge. I know we can't keep a man who relegated us but I'm pretty confident he would have taken us back up at first attempt. It's all done and dusted anyway, it's a new era and Pearson will get my full support as every other manager does. I agree totally!! But hey, whats dones done, we need to back Pearson now and hope he as what it takes!
Candidcamera Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 This is a joke ??? I wish him well but no thanks - please move on.
Jon the Hat Posted 21 June 2008 Posted 21 June 2008 I will support him, but I really think there must have been better people who applied for the job rather than someone who is pretty much untested. Lets not get our hopes up anyway give it 5weeks into the season if it isnt working im sure Manderic will get rid of his 'right man' once again I doubt that very much. Allen lost the respect of just about the whole club in the space of his short time here. Everything I have heard and read about Nigel suggests that is not going to happen. I had my hair cut by a Saints fan this morning, and he echoed what we have read regarding the fans dissapointment at Pearson's departure. What they lacked before he joined is what we crave so much. A team who play for each other and for the fans. Untested over a long period he may be, but he has all the pedigree you could want in terms of playing and coaching experience.

What surprises me is the amount of people on here who are completely ignoring comments by Saints fans. The general impression is that they are very sad to see him go... and they are in the Championship. All people want to talk about is his lack of success and whatnot. But how about these people actually listen to some fans who have experienced him as a manager? The more I hear about the reaction of Southampton supporters the more confident I become.
