Mikey Posted 12 August 2008 Posted 12 August 2008 Henderson Gilbert Hobbs Tunchev ... Gradel King Oakley Dyer Fryatt Howard Would play Gilbert LB and put Kish RB but Gilbert is starting to build up a great partnership with Gradel. But don't know a way round it without changing formation so might have to resort to putting Gilbert LB. Unless we put Dyer LB as some people have suggested if he's good enough there.
Bryn Posted 12 August 2008 Posted 12 August 2008 As was Kevin Blackwell and an Ipswich town scout. Wouldn't be surprised if they were both casting an eye over Mattock, I think a few Championship clubs fancy a crack at him. Or should I say, fancied. I fully expect at least one new signing this week to cover this, I'll be surprised if Gilbert is not at RB on Saturday.
Joe. Posted 12 August 2008 Posted 12 August 2008 Well, it sort of is...Bot yeah I agree, no shippedy woppedying. Well obviously we have no specialised left back but it's one of the more low-risk positions on the pitch so we should be able to patch up with a midfielder or another defender from somewhere.
Guest Mickyblueeyes Posted 12 August 2008 Posted 12 August 2008 I may be wrong but isnt Tunchev experienced at playing left back for his previous club?Morrison and Hobbs seemed to have managed the Stockport attack today and will still have tunchev's experience, even though it is at left back. If so: Henderson Gilbert Hobbs Morrison Tunchev Gradel Oakley King Dyer Fryatt Howard Subs: Dickov,Porter,Worley,Martin,Adams

Thracian Posted 12 August 2008 Posted 12 August 2008 Beswick might have been an option at left-back had he been fit, perhaps Leeds would loan us Sheehan but otherwise Dyer or a new signing seem the only answers and I've no idea if Dyer is any good there. I couldn't see Pearson playing a back three. He stuck with a back four even when Stockport had 10 men so he hardly seems the man for experimental adventures. I'm surprised we've left ourselves so short of left-backs anyway - even before Mattock's injury.
Joe. Posted 12 August 2008 Posted 12 August 2008 I personally quite like the prospect of Dyer and Porter operating on the left wing, makes way for some positive attacking thoughts.
Bert Posted 12 August 2008 Posted 12 August 2008 Henderson Morrison Hobbs TunchevGradel Kish Oakley King PorterHoward Fryatt **** it, let's go mad. The only thing with that is, the wingers are not known for their defensive qualities. I like the option of Gilbert left back and Luke O'Neill right back, but then it'd be a shame to split up Max/Gilbert. All we can do, is trust what the management team put out in front of us.
the manc Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 i was gonna say,im sure porter can do a job at left back!
teblin Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 My guess is that we have been watching a few left back incase Mattock did leave, so i would have thought our interest in one of those will be stepped up.

I agree with this, O'Neill is an attacking RB anyway from what i gathered at Quorn and Palace, all be it 5 minutes, so we would have a RB to overlap Gradel like Gilbert does. By moving Gilbert to LB it enhances the attacking aspect of the left hand side.
