Tevez Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 O'Neill is apperently meant to be starting RB for Sat with Gilbert Left Back.

Sooper Steve's shin Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Douglas Maybury - Stearman - McAuley - Clapham Chambers, J - Hellings - Sheehan Hammond - Dodds - Hume All released this summer and I count five full-backs there (six if you include McAuley who played more than once at right-back).

We were Right Back United last season, and now we are struggling to find a competent full back at the club.
maddog Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 If we win this game Saturday, i'm well confident of a play off finish minimum despite only being 2 games in. Too win the first home (in the league) and away games is such a confidence boost for the players if they do it. Championship here we come
Fox92 Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Morisson at left back and throw in Hobbs at centre back or the other way around???

Father Ted Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Henderson Morrison Hobbs Tunchev Gilbert------------------------------------------Porter Oakley King Gradel Howard Fryatt Subs: Martin, Kishishev, O'Neill, Dickov, Dyer. I was thinking of 3 solid players at the back with Gilbert and Porter playing wing-backs with Howard upfront and if he can win as many balls as he did against MK Dons we'll be laughing with Fryatt and Gradel playing off him. Might work, might not Thoughts.

Rich Fox Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Luke O'Neill looked impressive at Quorn at right-back and very skillful for a defender going forward. But whether he's ready for a senior debut I don't know.Trouble is, without knowing if any of the new signings can play left-back, I just don't see an obvious solution. Dyer at the back and Porter in front might work because Porter would cover back and help Dyer quite responsibly. I could make one eccentric suggestion but it really is radical and only made as a one-match option simply through observation of players abilities. We could play Gradel at left-back. We know he's comfortable on the left and he's quite tall. We could play high up the pitch because no-one will outsprint the lad. He competes for every ball and even if he got beaten his recovery is so quick he'd likely get in another challenge. It would scupper Stockport's plans to deal with him. Adams could play on the right and we'd have an extra attacker if things go wrong and we need to move out of the more defensive formation I feel sure Pearson will adopt away from home. It's just a thought and one that will doubtless be greeted with some derision. My biggest concern is the loss of his attacking potential. But defensively he's the most improved player I've seen at City and I don't think anyone would make a fool of him cos, apart from his speed, he shields the ball well, he's brave and seems very strong. If Pearson knows that, say, Dyer can play left back or even Gilbert then fair enough but perhaps the Gradel idea is worth considering because we have far more options up front than we ever have at full-back. . For gods sake you cannot be serious gradel at left back, this would be such a waste of his talents going foreward and he would be likely to get injured at left back going into tackles it would probably end his career. We have to be carefull with max gradel he looks a real talent to me real quality but he will get kicked over the park if were not careful in this league.

Im not sure if thats worse than when Daggers and Thracian were tipping Porter to play in the hole in midfield all pre-season!!

Im not sure if thats worse than when Daggers and Thracian were tipping Porter to play in the hole in midfield all pre-season!! Well what about the possibility of him playing left-back and all those that have put him as left-back! Dyer left-wing back then...
Candidcamera Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Good luck to O'Neill and well done NP for backing youth prospects. I would like Fyatt to score again.
davieG Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Doesn't seem like there's going to be any rush to find another left back in fact probably not going to at all. Looks like the plan is for Gilbert/Hobbs will cover the left back spot. Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is confident the strength of his squad can overcome the bitter blow of losing bright young full-back Joe Mattock. The England Under-21 star played his part in the two opening clean sheets which brought two victories as City got their season off to a great start. But now he faces between four and eight weeks on the sidelines after suffering a ligament tear in his left ankle in Tuesday's Carling Cup win over Stockport. It means a reshuffle and proves the value of Pearson making changes on Tuesday, the versatile Jack Hobbs getting a run-out, for instance. He and Kerrea Gilbert, who also plays on the left, may well be part of the defensive shake-up. On the other hand it's just Blanderson's interpretation of the situation
Flynny Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Defence should be Hobbs - Morrison - Tunchev - Gilbert. I don't see a problem there, Hobbs plays right back and Gilbert plays left-back, as far as I know. I'd quite like to see Lee Cox at RB, but then I've not seen O' Neil who Pearson seems to rate. I miss James Chambers.
Mark Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Everyone realises moving Gilbert is going to totally mess up our attacking from the right don't they? It's not worth it, hope Nigel sticks Tunchev in there for tomorrow at least.

Thracian Posted 15 August 2008 Posted 15 August 2008 Thoughts???? Porter left wing back!!! ou having a laugh?? Im not sure if thats worse than when Daggers and Thracian were tipping Porter to play in the hole in midfield all pre-season!! I've never remotely considered the idea of Porter at left back but you needn't worry about Porter's ability in an attacking central midfield role whether you chose to mock the idea or not.

Im not sure if thats worse than when Daggers and Thracian were tipping Porter to play in the hole in midfield all pre-season!! PS: There are several options open to Pearson but I would doubt he'd use Luke O'Neill at this stage other than perhaps off the bench.
