The psychopaths should have been hanged first time round.

To have the thoughts they had at 10 years old proves that they should not be on this earth. They went looking for a kid to push in front of a car, found 2 year old James and then tortured and killed him. How we ever let them out of prison I don't know. Should of killed the barstads. I don't care that they were only 10 at the time. If anyone has thoughts like they had (let alone acting on them) they should be got rid of.

You would seriously want them to kill a ten year old kid? Obviously whatever they have done to rehabilitate Venables hasn't worked, but have we heard anything about the other one? He seems to have got on alright since his release. I maybe wrong but surely it's better that another life hasn't been wasted after such a horrible event.

Maybe a bit harsh yes, but surely if someone has thoughts like that they will not change. They went looking for a child so they could throw him in front of a car. I'm not sure, maybe someone like that can be rehabilitated :dunno: But the kids I grew up with who enjoyed hurting animals and humans very badly didn't change when they got older.

I will take that statement back about hanging them and just say that they should be in prison forever for what they did.

I see what you mean but one terrible incident when your ten years old, albeit an absolutely massive incident and the rest of your life is taken away. The two crimes that Venables has done aren't exactly related either although you could still argue from this that the rehabiltation process hasn't worked for hm. You hear nothing about the other one so maybe it has worked for him and he is leading a normal life but forever living with regrets. I could be completely wrong but maybe it has helped Thompson.

http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/news/THUGS-TRIED-SET-MAN-ALIGHT/article-2422638-detail/article.html

An unconscious, petrol-soaked victim was "a spark" away from going up in flames after being savagely beaten.

The 22-year-old was saved from serious burns because rain stopped his attackers' cigarette lighters from igniting.

The court heard two of the defendants, Damien Robbins and Marie Tocher, were not involved in the attempted torching.

The victim had been ambushed by three drug-fuelled, hooded men – who repeatedly punched, kicked and stamped on him – as he walked his dog, on the night of December 1 last year. As he lay defenceless in an alley off New Parks Boulevard, Leicester, he had a six-stone pillar dropped on his legs.

Leicester Crown Court heard yesterday that prime mover David Tocher smashed the victim three times in the face with a 30x30cm concrete block, before dropping it on him from head height.

Tocher (22), of Gracedieu Road, Loughborough, was jailed indefinitely for public protection.

He must spend at least three years and three months behind bars.

Kristopher Wilson (24), of Meadow Avenue, Loughborough, received six years and six months. Robbins (22), also of Gracedieu Road, was jailed for five years and six months. All admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent. Tocher's sister, Marie Tocher (20), of Ferrers Close, Castle Donington, who orchestrated the attack after falling out with the victim and his girlfriend, admitted conspiracy to cause actual bodily harm.

It was accepted she did not foresee the severity of the attack.

She was sentenced to two years detention.

David Herbert, prosecuting, said David Tocher and Wilson doused the victim's head and body in a litre of petrol before both tried to set him ablaze.

It is thought they were hampered by the wet weather.

He said: "They were one spark away from setting him alight."

The victim, who has no memory of the attack, suffered three facial fractures, severe swelling and bruising.

He said: "People have died from a far less determined attack. It was planned gang violence."

Afterwards, David Tocher sent "chilling" text messages to friends, said Mr Herbert.

One said "ha ha" after describing pouring petrol on him.

The attack was witnessed by the victim's petrified girlfriend and her nine-year-old son – who were splashed in petrol as their pleas for mercy were ignored. Tocher later claimed the victim had threatened to hurt his sister and torch his mother's yard.

Passing sentence, Judge Christopher Metcalf said: "It was a brutal and ruthless attack and he had no opportunity to defend himself."

The court heard Marie Tocher and the victim's girlfriend had been involved in angry text and Facebook messages the day before.

It led to Marie Tocher's then boyfriend, Wilson, being recruited, along with her brother and her cousin, Robbins.

They drove to New Parks , intending to put petrol through the victim's letterbox.

Marie Tocher, who sat in a nearby car during the violence, had blamed the others, but later conceded she expected the victim to get "a few slaps".

Defence counsel said all four were genuinely remorseful.

The defendants had taken the drug mephedrone – known as meow meow.

Carl Gaskell, for David Tocher said: "He was influenced by the substances he'd taken and depressed because his grandfather was terminally ill."

Gareth Weetman, for Wilson, said he was a hard-working father-of-one.

He said: "The flashpoint came when they saw the complainant in the street as they were on the way to his house."

Felicity Gerry, for Robbins, said he played no part in the petrol pouring or attempted lighting and denied dropping the pillar on the victim.

Mary Prior, for Mary Tocher, said she had since been socially isolated, unable to return to Loughborough, mainly because she co-operated with the police afterwards.

She was described as "fragile" and having attempted suicide.

Ms Prior said: "She wasn't cheering them on."

It takes one to know one, so it is said, so perhaps we should add your name to the list!

Oh and to Ian Huntley, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest your arsehole you self-serving, murdering waste of blood and skin. Do the best thing for once in your miserable existence and slit your own throat.

Correct.

It costs us a ****ing fortune to keep them locked up. And then a few years later someone takes the piss out of us and releases them from prison to roam the streets again.

Not in the Huntley League but still:

A couple from Stockport escaped uninjured when a concrete slab hit their windscreen as they travelled along the motorway at 70mph.

Jenny and Tom Ferguson's windscreen was smashed as the block was thrown from the bridge over the M56 by Wythenshawe on Saturday evening.

They said the slab, which landed in the back of the car, may have killed one of their grandchildren if they had been in the vehicle.

Police said they were investigating.

'Lives at risk'Mrs Ferguson said: "I didn't see anything at all, it just came. Luckily it just skimmed past us and ripped part of the roof.

"It wasn't until I got out to get the glass off me that I noticed the concrete block in the back passenger foot well."

Her husband, Tom, said: "It was Jenny that took the brunt of it, it whizzed past her. It was absolutely horrific.

"We hope that by highlighting what happened to us it might deter other people from hurling things off bridges."

Pc Mel Sharples, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "Fortunately this couple were not injured but the result of this incident could have been much worse.

"It is clearly extremely dangerous to throw objects on a motorway and whoever did this behaved in a stupid and irresponsible way.

"This mindless vandalism could easily have resulted in a serious collision. I would appeal to anyone that may have seen anyone on the bridge at Hollyhedge Road that day to come forward, so we can make sure other people's lives are not put at risk."
