You know what I mean. <_<

Smart arse.

Well, not really.

Top of the table clash would be 1st v 2nd.

We are not 1st or 2nd.

Yes I agree that the booking for Tunchev was harsh and unlucky; from where I was I didn't even think it was a foul.

I see you haven't bothered to reply to what I actually was implying in my original post then. I assume it is because you've failed to make a post look foolish, all you lacked was a stupid , or  and it would have been a vintage pointless DB11 post.

Ok, I shall rephrase it.

Against top of the table team,

Better?

Well, there's no blaming the manager too much for our first defeat in Division One football, shameful though it was.

Throughout his careeer Sir Alex Ferguson has emphasised the virtue of patience and, given our first serious challenge, we showed no patience at all and reverted to the first thing that came into our head - hoof it to Howard.

Any prat can pass when there's no opposition or when it's as limited as Cheltenham.

But Millwall put their foot in and made an art form of wasting time and instead of making them chase shadows we reacted in just the way they might have hoped. We stopped passing the ball quickly along the floor and Morrison was the worst.

But there was a bigger problem. Our free-kicks and corners. Sometimes in football you have to make little things count because of the way the opposition plays.

On one occasion, first half, we had five successive corners and every one was awful. I mean awful as in Viccy Park. Not for one minute would I put up with that from any coach of mine. It was so bad that Gradel didn't even want to take one corner and Dyer put two grubbers across which my kid could have delivered better.

Not that the delivery was the main problem. What really grated was it seemed like we'd never practiced corners or free-kicks at all. There was no imagine, no variation and no signs whatever that we had ever practised anything and that after a fortnight's break when we should have been fast, sharp and when ideas could have been honed.

When Pearson does his playback he should look at his staff first. The only decent corner was Kingy's and Morrison should have done better than to head harmlessly over the bar. The last minute corner where Dyer aimed for the sodding corner flag defied belief though it was only marginally worse than all his other dead ball kicks.

Today's result wes significant because Millwall clearly came with a plan and the twin tactics of packing their defence and wasting time/slowing the game worked like a dream in preventing us getting into any sort of rhythm.

Our nievity was exposed and no more was the evidence clear than our continual aiming of long balls to Howard. We really have to anticipate such an appraoch and make plans accordingly.

But what we actually did in the last fortnight I've no idea because, apart from our lack of ideas and imagination, we also looked sluggish when we should have been sharp as a razor.

If you're top of the League and get a break you don't go into cruise control. you increase training and make greater demands.

Our support

Our support

Our support was ****ing shit

Our sup port wa-as **** king shit

The attitude to being behind and the atmosphere in L1 during the second half was wank. What is the point in being in that section of the stadium if you aren't going to bust a lung?

Seriously? :dunno:

And as far as the match goes - I have a lot of love for Pearson but Dickov and Campbell are not my first choice on the left and right wing. And, having missed the two matches where he actually did something, I am wondering what the piss Gradel offers the team? Shocking crosses and passes. I'm yet to see him play a decent game this season.

Who else was he going to play at right-back?

You only get three subs and with Gilbert injured (?), it means we only had 2 impact subs, and Gradel for the full 90? King for the full 90?

Read what I wrote to find your solution.

Throwing strikers on does not work, I seem to remember you slating Holloway for that, using more thoughtful changes would have effected the game a lot more.

 ?

Several things alarmed me today.

Firstly, our goalkeeper has to be replaced by Hendo. He makes me nervous even when the ball is passed back to him with no pressure.

Our defence scared me today, thinking they were good enough to play their way out of trouble instead of getting it clear which ultimately lead to their goal.

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed David Martin. To me, he looks dodgy and unconvincing. He had 2 shots all game, the first one of which was an easy save but he palmed it straight back out (rather than tipping it wide) and Milwall should've scored. The goal was poor positioning from Martin - I'm not blaming him for the goal but he was in no-mans-land and it would've been an easy save if he stayed on his line.

My god that was an awful display!

Starting at the back- Did Hobbs win one first ball? Did Morrison? They have been fantastic so far (Hobbs in particular) winning everything, but im honestly not sure if I've seen two centre backs play so poorly. They were absolutely shocking. BUT they're young and everyone has their off days.

Tunchev came into centr back and stabilised things, I can't understand why he didn't start anyway when he is clearly better than Morrison, but hey thats just my opinion.

Midfield- Anyone who went will tell you Gradel and Dyer were very poor today. I went to the game with a mate who is a Burnley fan who was shocked with the overall display but did say that Maxi was the only player on the pitch who looked like he actually wanted the ball and was constantly making himself available- speaks volumes for the lads confidence. He was having a poor game sure, but I personally would not have taken him off.

Lets not go into Dyer and Gradels corners/free-kicks.

King and Oakley? Looked lathargic, heavy legged, much like Oakley in particular did most of last season to be honest. They never really got to grips with the game and were more than matched by the Millwall central midfielders, who looked more up for the battle.

Strikers- Same as King and Oakley really. Didn't look up for it, didn't work as a pair, looked lost. Howard didn't win enough in the air which he has been doing so far this season. DJ looked lively when he came on but didn't have long enough. I'm still not sure where Dickov was playing but he had no effect.

Poor overall, but I'm not reading too much into it, you don't become a poor team overnight (or in our case 11 days). But we really do need to bounce back quickly if we're to get this performance well and truly out of the system

Bring on the Orient!!!

Agreed.

We were abysmal all over the pitch.

Keeper was poor - his kicks are terrible, his saves were unconvincing and that's when he was hardly tested. I'd hate to see him in a match where he's constantly under pressure. Bring back Hendo.

Defence - shocking except Powell (who didn't do much wrong) and Tunchev (who stabilised the defence). Hobbs was out of his depth - he won nothing in the air, got bullied by their forwards and was hopeless in the tackle. Morrisson was just as bad - his distribution was woeful and he was nowhere to be seen for Alexander's goal.

Midfield - Dyer and Gradel were marked out of it, King was simply rubbish (apparently he's a good passer but he probably gave away the ball more than anyone else) and then he disappeared - apart from the odd pass sideways and back to his defenders. Oakley turned back the clock to his pathetic performances last season, though he was better than King. A special mention goes to Gradel and Dyer's pisspoor set pieces - Dyer's last second free kick into the box was worse than schoolboy!

Strikers - Howard had poor service, Fryatt was too greedy and always wanted an extra touch. Why can't he just shoot under pressure rather than trying to cut inside one more time? Dickov should've gone up front cos he was wasted on the wing.

I agree, I didn't think it was the system which was the problem. If anyhting I think we looked less like scoring when we went three up front. BTW Nod.E pointed you out to me today. You were sitting up and to the left of me with Andy.

No. They might not be top come October 18th. :P

And Daggers, you're right, but some people find it hard to get behind the team when it's that shit.

RAJ!

Coming up to distribute lollipops at half-time to celebrate the birth of his little one ...

Superstar

Amen to that.

No one (at least not that I've read) seems to have given decent credit to Milwall for completing a solid job - and Zak Whitbread played a stormer. Anyone hoping to beat us this season could do worse than study their midfield and defence on video.

We need to find another gear to shift into when the going gets like that and we ran short on ideas today.

I still say, as did those around me, that cancelling last week's match was stupid - it killed our momentum just as we seemed to be approaching a peak on the field. A shame, I hope we learn from the mistake.

 There's little doubt that losing our momentum was an important factor in today's performance.

Straight after the match I said to my Dad that Millwall did a solid job on us- got the goal and sat back, but gave us no time on the ball, thus leading us to panic and lose any sort of fluency. They won't be the last team to do that this season, so hopefully we'll learn from this today.

It was a very good goal, great first touch and then the finish.

Oh god, the ref was ridiculous. So, so pedantic and very frustrating throughout the match.

I often wonder if any work is done to encourage referees to let the game flow. Even with free-kicks he took an age and refused to let players get on with them.

Like the free-kick he made us take three times  . Also, why was Gradel booked? He got whacked on the back of the head and got booked, and they won a free-kick!
