Millwall Post Match

Like the free-kick he made us take three times  . Also, why was Gradel booked? He got whacked on the back of the head and got booked, and they won a free-kick!

They were both at it tbh, Gradel pulled him back first and the Millwall lad didn't like it.

Because Gradel reacted first.

Oh right, fair enough. All I saw was Gradel being hit on the head. With the sending-off, did their guy punch Morrison? They were after him because he had a right go at Alexander for clattering Martin.

meh.

we had a bad game.

people can analyse it all they want, but most of the people complaining are over-reacting.

millwall came with a plan.

they were v. physical in the first 20+ minutes, which dented our confidence.

we held it together, should really have scored in the first half.

second half we lost our heads a bit, started hoofing it forward, playing their game really.

that's exactly what they wanted us to do, we got dragged down to their level.

i am still a bit concerned about our ability to actually hit a sweet shot from any further out than 15 or so yards.

still... not to worry... it's our first loss of the season in the league, don't over-react.

the last thing this team needs is for the fans to turn against them because of one loss.

this is probably the wake up call everyone needs.

we will lose SOME games this season.

i think millwall was probably going to be one of the first, because of the whole 'stigma' that surrounds the team and their supporters.

the ref had a SHOCKING game too.

get over it, pick it up and ffs lets hear the walkers make some noise.

was fooking dead in there for massive periods of the game.

it's disgraceful that the only time the whole stadium is making noise is when howard loses a header, or something equal.

v. dissapointing support.

bring on the orient!

 There's little doubt that losing our momentum was an important factor in today's performance.

Am I the only one who finds it strange that we seem to agree on absolutely everything this season? :D

I thought I found myself disliking you more and more recently

Our shooting wasn't much better in the warm up though some of Stowell's feeding was chronic.

And you're right about stadium reaction. Our away support is much better, far more likely to lift the players, whereas at home we seem to sit back and wait for the players to give us something to cheer and when they don't the fans take it out on every mistake.

I hope this is a wake up call rather like the 6-1 defeat at Ipswich those years ago.

Millwall were more physical than us looked threatening on the break and produced better set pieces. They thoroughly desereved to win. I can't recall a single shot on target in the whole of the second half.

My main concerns after that are as follows

1 Keeper. We really don't have a keeper capable of dominating his area. personally I think henderson looks the best at the moment.

2 Defence . Despite our good record to date we have looked quite shakey at times and today was a shambles. Without Gilbert we have no real pace at the back and basically have two centre backs who can't pass .

3 Central midfield. I simply don't believe that we have good enough players in this position to get us out of this league. when the winter comes with heavier pitches and against the more physical sides we will lose the midfield more often than we win it.

4 set pieces. What do we do in training? we have not taken decent corners/free kicks for about 5 seasons. Millwall's corners were much better than ours today. Also our crossing from open play is usually pretty average at best.

However, it is just one game but it did raise a lot of serious questions which we didn't look that confident of being able to answer.

Paul Dickov on the wing is an absolute catastrophe. Pearson had no idea how to change the game today and just threw extra strikers on, if Howard and Fryatt can't score, get them OFF. Once Gradel was replaced on the wing by Dickov it was game over, no he didn't have the best of games but it was an option out there. We had no idea from then on (not that we did much throughout) and we had Morrison was crossing the ball... who had a nightmare today... unbelievable.

Personally I disagree with you.

I thought Dickov caused more problems in the last 20 mins than Gradel did in the previous 70 mins!

I do too.

Gradel was woeful.

& played the ball back to the goalkeeper on more than one occasion.

No one (at least not that I've read) seems to have given decent credit to Milwall for completing a solid job - and Zak Whitbread played a stormer. Anyone hoping to beat us this season could do worse than study their midfield and defence on video.

They were very beatable. We played half-decent stuff for the first 10 minutes and cut them apart a few times, if we had carried on like that for the full 90 minutes I reckon we would have scored a couple and beat them. And Whitbread only had a good game because everything was in the air.

Bang on.

If we had played football on the ground, instead of resulting to the long ball, we would've beat them today, easily.

They are a physical team, & were beating us in the air every time.

Glad I elected not to go now!

Next game is pretty crucial, lose and we're looking very Midtable with a game in hand we have no option but to win.

And here everyone was thinking we were going to cream this league after 2 games

I totally think we played awful today due to the self imposed break. If those same international players were injured, we'd have to play without them.

We weren't match fit, and were playing against a team which were, and it showed.

Their white haired defender Whitbread played a blinder, was very solid at the back. Won just about every high ball that came in.

Our defence on the other hand played like strangers. Morrison had an absolute howler. There were just so many short or over hit passes today, I really don't think we should take a break 'due to internationals' again - different if most other teams did the same, but at this level they really don't.

I'm not too worried. Anyone that thought that we'd go a season unbeaten is a fool! At the end of the day they were more organised and fitter. However from what I've seen, NP will sort it out and we'll bounce back straight away next week at Orient :scarf: . In a way it's a good reality check, even if we were dog shite today  .

maybe it was momentum, got to agree and ask why we cancelled the Colchester game when, of our 3 'internationals', only King started, Tunchev was benched and Adams wasn't even in the squad. We keep going on about having a big squad for this league, yet postponed a game which ultimately could have cost us 3 points due to rustiness.

But some of the comments on various threads are ludicrous, 1 defeat (by 1 goal, not 6!!) and it's the worst ever defensive performance, the top scorer should be dropped, our goalie's are crap. Then the Andy King borathon crops up again, wow, he didn't have a great game - who did?

It may be a wake up call as we were a bit casual yesterday but one 1-0 defeat is not the end of the world. We have a game in hand, which of course some prats will expect us to win 5-0 as we are this all conquering Man U of the 1st Division. But a draw would take us up to 4th.

ffs put it all into perspective.

Even they lost yesterday.

Fulham aside, Millwall was the first team to come at us, and not be slightly in awe. They weren't better, they were simply smarter, and they virtually bullied us out of the game. A decent side with some real pace down the right. Our failure was our inability to get our wingmen running at them. We didn't frighten them at any stage of the game. Wasn't it Hobbs mistake that let in their goalscorer? That said, it was a sweet finish. It was our inability to score two goals which lost us the game, not their single goal. I can't remember a proper shot on target, though the stats suggest otherwise.

As others have said, we will lose games. We could lose about eight and still be champions. The test is the response we get.

Yday was just a reality check for anyone who thought we'd piss this League.

Well done to Millwall as they had 2-3 decent chances, scored one and then closed ranks, won almost every ball going and didnt let us play.

We on the other hand did everything wrong hence resorting to the the hoof ball so prominent last season.

Philce who i sit with hadnt een to a game this season(Cos of hols) he said, and i quote" this is just like last season"

Teams WILL do what Millwall did to us yday on a regular basis and we must learn and adopt to play different styles of football.

NP is still the man.

The team cant just EXPECT to gain points from EVERY game like its a stroll at Vicky Park

I'd rather have a dodgy spell now to learn from and get the team together to get back into a winning mentality asap.

Must also give credit to the Millwall fans for the noise (in the last 15 odd mins) and turning up for an early KO(albeit its easier when your winning and it is their cup final!!!) didnt like the "town ful of muslims" chants though!!

Overall, crap performance but not overly worried as we have the right man who can gain from this experience.

Keep the Faith,Foxes never Quit,In it together,Any holes a goal!!!

P.S Im off to get some sleep and clean some shit!!!..

P.P.S Thanks to everyone i met yday who congratulated me on Baby Romas birth and thanks for the cards, pressies and messages!

Yesterday was the worse city performance i have seen for a while, hobbs and Morrison doesnt work and although people seem to be blaming morrison to me when hobbs is as out of position as he was on man occasions he is then cauhgt in two minds sooner Kisnorbo comes back in the better, Keeper was not good out of position on way too many ocasions and as for his kicking.................

not good but i am sure we will bounce back!
