Simi Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Last time i looked, Tunchev was right footed. But Morrison. AWFUL . Sorry, confusing myself. Tunchev usually plays down the left side of a pairing, someone like Morrison or Hobbs would have been more comfortable there.
MikeyT Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Thought we were poor in all aspects today. Think there was a slight improvement when Tunchev came on, and for me was the only player really who can come out of that game with any pride at all. The central midfield today imo looked particularly poor but i have no clue as to why, maybe Millwall just wanted it more. Howard was poo apart from a few headers on. Back to the drawing board this week.
Assassins Creed Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 We were awful today, its like they were on the piss last night and the game was to early for them!
Legend_in_blue Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 We've got to find a way to counteract the oppositions intent to refuse to play football. Millwall today may as well have been any other team in the bottom half of the championship. We didn't crack it last season, and today nothing suggested to me as if anything will change if teams set up against us as they did today. 11 men behind the ball. How to pick them off? NP, it's over to you.
Father Ted Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Tunchev at right back? Dyer staying on for the full 90? Fryatt playing the full 90? Letting Millwall have the ball for periods when we needed to pressure? Who else was he going to play at right-back? You only get three subs and with Gilbert injured (?), it means we only had 2 impact subs, and Gradel for the full 90? King for the full 90?
Libertine Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Gradel was a right greedy bugger today. Poor.
Legend_in_blue Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 We were awful today, its like they were on the piss last night and the game was to early for them! We were as bad as the opposition. We were dictated to by their refusal to play any football. We've just got to impose ourselves against these teams more and outfight them somehow.

Millwall didn't sit back and defend their lead, they still attacked when given the chance.
Milky Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 I've never been a fan of the classic, "we need a goal, so chuck 4 strikers on!" Lost our shape completely towards the end.
Porky Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 I'd pretty much agree with what most of you have said. I can't really add any more to be honest apart from the fact that we were bloody awful. I don't think we managed to string more than two passes together all game, the amount of time, I lost count the number of times we lost the ball. First loss of the season, was going to happen eventually. Obviously, it's in the past now and can't do anything about it. So time to regroup (again) and come back strong for the Leyton Orient match.
DB11 Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 6-18 fouls2-4 yellow cards disgusting, look up consistency in the dictionary So they should have had an extra 2 yellow cards according to your theory? It's not the amount of fouls that warrants a card but the severity of them. Millwall did a lot of little fouls to stop us playing but there wasn't a lot fouls that instantly stood out as warranting a card, and those that did received cards. Morrison was lucky not to get at least cautioned as well when Kandol got sent off for kicking out at him to begin with.

Leicester 2 yellow cards. Milwall 4 yellow cards.

How many times do you see a referee point to 3 or 4 imaginary parts of the field claiming that a player has fouled warranting a card. There were 3 or 4 of their players involved in almost every incident. I have no theory, but 4 yellow cards over the course of the game was pathetic
DB11 Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Do you act stupid just to get a reaction?Leicester 6 fouls. Milwall 18 fouls. Leicester 2 yellow cards. Milwall 4 yellow cards. Shut up I'm not being stupid I'm just looking at it from a neutral point of view and not just "they fouled 3 times more than us so they should 3 times the amount of cards." It doesn't work like that.

It doesn't work like that. Read above, I never claimed that was the case. You can be as neutral as you like but if you think over the course of the game they didn't warrant more than 4 bookings then good look to you getting dressed in the mornings.
Matt Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Reality has hit, I thought it would, the first game we lose is when we realise we're in League One (It does for me anyway). I'm not disappointed with the scoreline too much, what i'm disappointed with is the way we played, we were poor, very poor IMO. The scoreline? Well we weren't going to go unbeaten all season so obviously i'm gutted but the fact is we deserved to lose, TBH I don't think Millwall were much better.
Durnerz Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Awful performance. We have two quick wingers yet we choose to hoof to howard every single time. The middle two were non existant, don't even get me started on Kings passing and Oakleys ball control. And yet neither keeper had to make a proper save throughout! Deserved a 0-0 draw in all honesty however Millwall took the one chance they had. Massive reality check to anyone who thinks we will walk this league!
He's not bald Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Seems City don't like it up 'em. Bottom line is we were bullied out of the points,I can only recall 1 lame shot on target all match, basically Fryatt bottled it and was as ineffective most of the match,I felt really sorry for Max I think his personal problems had a real effect on him and he wasn't at the races and shouldn't have been on the pitch,as for Dickov! did he actually do anything? in fact has he done anything since he's come back? Milwall were at best mediocre but they set out their stall and got things right this afternoon and we had no answers,I hope this is a blip and a slap in the face we needed but I fear that the warnings won't be heeded and we will struggle!

It doesn't work like that. But the severity of the challenges does. Tunchevs shoulder barge the same as the foul on Martin? That was Tunchevs first foul of the game and it wanst like it was breaking up a major scoring opportunity as there was plenty of cover. The ref wimped out at times today but what's done is done. We were outbattled all over the park today. End of!
The Reverend Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Really!?!****ing 'ell... sounds like a useless buy then... although didn't he have some good games? Have you been to any games? Dyers been one of our best players so far, he had a blinder in the last league game. How you can suggest he's a useless buy after he's been easily one of our bestplayers so far is ludicrious Anyway onto the game. They had a game plan and executed it perfectly. Sit back, and hit on the break. Which is exactly what they did. They had one memorable shot on target, of which they scored. Teams are going to do that to us all season long. We need to be faster, stronger and more creative if we are to beat teams who do that. Tranmere and MK did that, but not as much, and they were nowhere near as physical. Just a few words about a number of individuals.... I think we need to play Tunchev at centre back. I wouldnt want to change a winning team, so have kept my mouth shut, but i dont trust Morrison and Hobbs together. Tunchev is the best defender we have, one that has a footballing brain and can pass. Neither Morisson nor Hobbs can. We need to play Tunchev, and pick one of the two. It's a tough choice. The other is Fryatt. He's done well, scored 4 or 5 league goals already, but he was terrible today. He's played like that for the last few games BUT he's scored. I'd drop him next game and put Dickov where he belongs - up front.
Matt Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Forgive me for not reading the whole thread but we're not going back to last season when, whenever we lost (Most games...) we blamed the referee? The referee was poor today, but certainly no reason or blame for the loss. (As I said not read alot of the thread. Sorry)
lildave3 Posted 13 September 2008 Posted 13 September 2008 Very poor that. Ah well. Zak Whitbread was immense.

(As I said not read alot of the thread. Sorry) I've only talked about the ref in this thread, I gave my match thoughts in the player ratings thread so thought I'd vent my anger here. Personally I think he needed to stamp his authority on the game but instead allowed them to get away with a lot which played right into their hands. But overall no it is the teams fault I'm just using this thread for the willy puller ref. Very poor that.Ah well. Zak Whitbread was immense. Was that the blonde centre back? Didn't have a clue who was who on their team, but the blonde lad was a class act, won everything.
