FilboFox Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Title says it all really... I'd just like to know, for this damn University project, what your opinion of Leicester is... don't make it too long... just one short sentence that sums up what you think of it. And try and be serious... as much as many of you will want to put Leicester is a pile of shit, try to resist! Thanks.
AmericanScott Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Leicester is really a nice place. When i first moved here, it wasn't anything special but now it's getting more clean and friendly. A couple of my friends from New York visited back in January and they agreed. They thought Leicester was far nicer than London.
Bert Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 I love it, simply because it's all I've ever known, I couldn't imagine living away from Leicester at this moment in time.
Lamby Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Its a blue hole where people get their cars set on fire and die.
Bert Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Its a blue hole where people get their cars set on fire and die. South London - The Dubai of England.
Lamby Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 South London - The Dubai of England. Thats actually East London South London = wonderful (well not really, but still)
Bert Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Thats actually East LondonSouth London = wonderful (well not really, but still) I take it you've only ever visited, Braunstone or New Parks in Leicester.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 It's got everything I need, and although a lot of backward idiots live here, you could say that about anywhere else in Britain
Lamby Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 I take it you've only ever visited, Braunstone or New Parks in Leicester. I've never even been there in my life
davieG Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Drab, Dull, Dump, with anything that has any historical interest being pulled down, piss poor sporting facilities. I went and had a look inside Curve the other day and it's like being down the Walkers with painted breeze block walls and badly finished painted concrete floors - where the hell did the £61 million go.
Zingari Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Yes I know the city like a lover Good or bad it's hard to love another that I've found This is no mean town, no mean city When I'm far away I long to see ya In my mind I know you'll always be around This is no mean town, no mean city City life is strange you take your share of the good times and bad times Always something playing on your mind Playing on your mind It's the only place that I would be willing to die for It's the only life I've ever seen Night or day she feeds me like a mother Good or bad it's hard to love another that I've found This is no mean town, no mean city Yes I know the city like a lover Good or bad it's hard to love another that I've found This is no mean town, no mean city City life is strange you take your share of the good times and bad times Always something praying on your mind Praying on your mind It's the only place that I would be willing to die for It's the only life I've ever seen This town is so mean, no mean city, no mean city.
Corky Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 I don't mind it. I enjoy visiting, as I will be on Saturday. Prefer where I live though.
poynton blue Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 The city is a toilet......the people are great
Thracian Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 I get bloody sick of people calling Leicester and Leicestershire. I honestly think it is a cracking place with lots of things to do and a wonderfully diverse selection of places to eat, drink and be happy. Huge efforts have been made to provide a City centre to do the place justice and, again, while there are the High Street giants there are also any number of small, interesting businesses in the alleyways and backstreets that are full of interest. Character and characters abound in Leicester, the overall sporting pedigree is something to be proud of despite localised hiccups, the University is a leader in various fields, transport links are top class and so many cultures seem to intermix reasonably harmoniously and with great benefits to everyone in many ways. As a county Leicestershire is vastly under-rated. The countryside is stunning in parts - Bradgate, The Outwoods, Beacon Hill and areas of the National Forest - there are lots of places of interest from Twycross Zoo to the National Space Centre, from Bosworth Battlefield to the Great Central Railway Line. I've had longish spells in all sorts of countries like Switzerland, Italy Holland, France, Monaco and while there were wondrous aspects to all those places I'd have no great desire to swop locations permanently. Why on earth would I abandon my City, my county, my much valued friends, the proximity of my family, the job that I enjoy and the kids whose joys and achievements I can share and celebrate first hand instead of from afar? I'm a simple person with modest needs and, minor moments apart, Leicester has been good to me. I love the place. And the more so since being part of the market scene and of FoxesTalk. I wouldn't ever rule out more travelling - out of interest and a still simmering sense of adventure. But Leicestershire is my home, Leicester is my City and I deeply appreciate both.
Lillehamring Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 when i moved back after living in london, the palce was a shambles but i loved it, i wrote many letters to the mercury campaigning for a higher standard of protection and development, sadly the man in charge was the jeremy beadle of local politics ross wilmot, who was (and probably still is, the worst thing that has ever happened to leicester) - then i gave up, then i realised that it was just a horrible place mainly full of wretched cultureless people- what do you have now: - the worst public transport infrastructrure in any town i have ever visited - two piecemeal shopping centres and endless empty shops and poundstores - a power crazed university that are allowed free reign to construct anything they want with absolutely no attention to design - a theatre that made the same error as it's predecessor - fewer sports facilities than the average village school in most developed countries i could go on, leicester has been slowly commiting suicide for at least the last century - the so-called renovation, compared to the results seen elsewhere, is really just some half-arsed frankenstein's monster. the few places i can tolerate these days are few and far between and ostensibly non-urban. would i ever move back? not for all the money in the world - i can tolerate a short visit, but the depression becomes unbearable (please move, dad - a nice little commute to the footy from shropshire would do)
Libertine Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 The thing I'm most proud of is that we feature an area that simultaneously possesses the greatest and the worst title of all time. NEWTOWN UNTHANK
Bazaldo Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Normal city, has its toilets has its nicer parts. Great, super, smashing. Lets have a look at what you could've won.
davieG Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Normal city, has its toilets has its nicer parts.Great, super, smashing. Lets have a look at what you could've won. Not that many - they've nearly all been closed and sold off like the rest of the facilities.
ASH17LCFC Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Sort of place that makes you work hard to get out.
MrsJohnMurphy Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 In which other city can you watch top football , rugby union, cricket, basketball teams & national hunt horse racing all within a couple of square miles. If they would just bring back the speedway
