Lillehamring Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 In which other city can you watch top football , rugby union, cricket, basketball teams & national hunt horse racing all within a couple of square miles. If they would just bring back the speedway except when they bulldozed granby halls and the riders had to play in loughborough.... but i'd imagine the answer is nottingham, and they have an ice rink too...
Tilley Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 It's all I've ever known & as NSLL says, it's home. I think it has improved over the years & there are far worse places in England.
hairy Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Used to love it for the gigs but the city is not on the circuit now, its Nottingham, Nottingham, Nottingham all the way these days. Some of their venues are shite too.
Joe. Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 It's improving and it'll take a while. Personally I don't think I want to live here when I'm older but there's still a long way to go before I have to make decisions like that...
Lovejoy Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Speaking as someone with an outside perspective, I have to say it's a bit of a boring, uninspiring place to the majority of outsiders. You have the North, you have the South (well London anyway) and the rest is a bit, well, no one really gives a flying fcuk about it. Sorry .
Benji Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 The further you get from the centre the nicer the county gets.
Sparky Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 I love it, simply because it's all I've ever known, I couldn't imagine living away from Leicester at this moment in time. What Bert said
Daggers Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Beware people, the hunt for greener grass is often fruitless or laden with danger...
James. Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I love Leicester. It's not the nicest place obviously but it's home and that's what matters. My opinion is probably clouded by nostalgia and in particular the fact I don't live there anymore but still, I always enjoy going back and always will I expect.

It's in my Top 10 of Favourite Places I Used To Live In. I have lived in 10 places in the UK.

Personally I don't think I want to live here when I'm older but there's still a long way to go before I have to make decisions like that... that certainly seems to be the case, but sadly it's not improving nearly as well or as rapidly as many other cities, and also at the expense of some real landmarks...and too many missed opportunities. unfortunately for leicester the damage is done, and the council neither have the bottle or the money to do anything ahead of it's time, even the modern stuff looks dated. as the saying goes - you can't polish a turd.

Zingari Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 its the brilliant shining diamond in the middle of the sceptred isle
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 S'all I've ever known. I've visited many another city and, sure, they might be bigger / smaller, cleaner, more modern, more traditional, overall more well-renound, more popular etc. but nothing beats my City, my home.... Woodgate, Leicester...
Darkzzz_ Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I have never lived in Leicester, But obviously spend a lot of my time in the city. I love it in all honesty, I remember the buzz I got the first time I went to Leicester, The first game, That feeling. I love the place, Obviously living there is a different story but I can be sure it is a hell of a lot better than Kettering.
Finchy Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Living in Brum has made me appreciate living in Leicester a lot more, so much nicer to live in a city like Leicester.

Woodgate, Leicester... ahhh yes... the beauty of the Woodgate area with it's bridges over the canals and waterways it really does put Venice to shame . wasn't it it was the poet Wordsworth that once likened Leicester to an oasis in a cultural desert ? i used to stand outside Frears biscuit factory in Woodgate just to gaze on the beautiful rosy cheeked ladies that would emerge around teatime still smelling of chocolate eclairs
Bazaldo Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 Not that many - they've nearly all been closed and sold off like the rest of the facilities. Should have done my research properly on that one. Bugger
Monk Posted 27 November 2008 Posted 27 November 2008 I used to really like Leicester. As a kid growing up in Rutland it was the place to go for shopping, comapred to Peterborough (much nicer shopping centre but less choice) I don't really know what Leicester stands for these days. The city centre has been a mucky. dreary place for many years and to me, the market is one of the few places that stand out. Over the years I have had many appointments at the General Hospital which have involved getting a bus there, and it takes the best part of an hour. Public transport in Leicester is a major major letdown. Couple that with my dad getting his car broken into about 5 times in Leicester and I don't like the place too much. Maybe I'm out of touch - I've lived in London for 3 years now.
Alexikokopops Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 I grew up in Lincoln which has a beautiful historical area, so I always thought of Leicester as a bit ming. Then I lived in Coventry for a couple of years and realised that where ever you live at least it's not as bad as Coventry.
The People's Hero Posted 28 November 2008 Posted 28 November 2008 Maidstone is the pinnacle of urban development.
