David Martin set to extend stay

Leicester City are set to agree with Liverpool to extend goalkeeper David Martin's loan period at the Walkers Stadium until the end of the season. The 22-year-old is expected to play in his 18th game tomorrow when City host Peterborough in League One. Martin has been getting the first-team experience he wanted, and providing Paul Henderson with competition for the keeper's jersey.

City boss Nigel Pearson said: "I am delighted we look like keeping him and I would think Liverpool are happy for him to get valuable experience. Just as important, he is happy to be staying with us.

"There is good competition in that position and he has done well for us any time he has come into the side, so it is a boost for us."

Discussions are also taking place regarding the futures of Marc Edworthy and Chris Powell, while the higher-profile talks with striker Matty Fryatt are also on-going. City chairman Milan Mandaric said recently that he hopes the Fryatt issue will be resolved by Monday, if not before. However, one player not staying is Bulgarian midfielder Radostin Kishishev.

After only one start this season – in the Carling Cup win over Stockport in the second game of the campaign – he has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent and is now a free agent.

Pearson praised yesterday's decision by Football League clubs to introduce a 'Home Grown Players' rule to come into effect from the beginning of next season.

It will require at least four players from clubs' 16-man match-day squads to be registered domestically, for a minimum of three seasons, before their 21st birthday. They can, however, be of any nationality.

Pearson said: "I think it is a good idea in that it helps to encourage the development of home-grown players. "But it doesn't really affect us because we fall well within these guidelines anyway."

Meanwhile, Alexsandar Tunchev remains the only injury doubt for tomorrow's big clash with Peterborough United. The Bulgarian defender is only just back in training after suffering a groin strain, so City are likely to be unchanged from the side which beat Carlisle last Saturday.

Nooooooooooooo, Please get rid of Martin, If Football Manager is anything to go by (:giggle:) I think that Alex Cisak is good enough, Better.

I do not feel comfortable at all with Martin between the sticks. And if it's true Pearson doesn't rate Henderson, how the fook is he rating and happy with Martin?

I am not fan of Martin really, neither of Hendo. Although his performance against Dagenham deserved some praise but I don't see any benefit in chopping and changing goalkeeper. It's best to stick with a couple who have some understanding with the defence rather than getting in a third keeper from elsewhere who have to build a relationship with the back four again. Don't change a winning formula.

Although i've been critical of Martin in the past, I think he could develop in to a decent goalie, whether his spell here is simply just for him to gain experience and then benefit others remains to be seen, but he's kept us in a few games this season.

unless we were going to buy a new keeper that would be our no 1 for the next few years, then giving him 6 months in this league, where we are stronger defensively then most, would benefit him greatly for next season, should we go up

all these people slagging Martin are the same people that not so long ago were slating Henderson

I have never slagged Henderson off, I said I wanted Fulop when he left, but never actually slagged Henderson off.

and fryatt :whistle::whistle:

Never slagged Fryatt off, Never really praised him.

Until this season (And I have praised him), but although I haven't slagged him off has he deserved praise on his previous season's form.

Henderson and Martin are fine for now. We are going to have a new number one next season anyway, and if we go up we can attract better players in the summer

than we can now.

Bye Kish! Never worked for him here. Shame. At least he helped Tunch settling in.

How do you know that?! He's only played 8 games since 2005! He could easily be a bag of knackers by now.

well i'd at least invite him for a trial for a week or 2 and have a look
