Well we arent talking about English players representing England in the Champions League, thats a totally different topic.

Well, not totally Loft. I thought the main reason people supported English teams in the CL was because we have (or supposedly have) British players? Obviously I was wrong.

The English teams are dominating because we have the majority of the world's best players (unfortunately, not many of them are English) playing for our top four teams because we can offer them the most money. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about.

What because I proved you wrong?

Bert seems to agree with me, I'm not going to continue bitching with you as you are jealous that England has 4 teams and your little nation has 1 is it? Awww unlucky man.

I agree with you, because that's just my opinion on the matter. That's not to say that Finners opinion is wrong Alb.

People see things in different ways.

You didn't prove me wrong, I can't be proven wrong. I'm stating a preference not having a debate.

You're either too thick for basic reading comprehension or you're intentionally looking for an argument. I'm assuming it's the latter because there are times you come across as pretty bright on here - if that's so I'd leave it to Thracian, he at least makes an effort to read what other people put and counter it with something "unique."

Making Wales jokes (especially when I've not brought Wales or Welsh football up at all) just makes you look like that thick little biggot Ash and that's not really someone you want to ally yourself with if you're hoping to come across as smart.

Bert's entitled to agree with you as you are entitled to your opinion (something I said on my very first post on the issue.) I don't really see why you have to come storming to the defence of every Yanited / Liverpool / Etc related topic with some kind of furious woody on for how great British clubs are? I'm happy to mellow out and be civilized here but you seem to just want to throw e-punches.

Its the same in Spain about finishing 20 points behing the the eventual league winners and getting a place in the Champions League, if we are lucky enough to have 4 teams getting into the Champions League then we should count ourselves lucky as a nation, so we can see our representives doing well and showing how strong our National league is in England. And if a team does finish 4th and then goes onto win the competition the next year, then fairplay to them. They have had to have played 15 matches to have won it.

That is a very fair comment from you, one of your better ones.

I agree with some of Finners points also and I know exactly where he is coming from. But the CL is what it is, we won't change that.

England are no doubt dominating and fair play to them, It reminds me of when the Italians had their dominant run, they were the big spenders in Europe and everyone had to beat them to have a chance of winning the CL. The only argument I would have, is the reflection it has on the national team. Whilst the English clubs look like world beaters, the English national team have been a shocking in recent years. You can't say the same about the Italians.

But anyway I am not going to discuss the CL any more, I must say I am looking forward to both semi finals. I hope the entertainment value is as good as it has been these last two weeks. :)

You're usually the first to go on about how it's "just my opinion!" - what's so hard about accepting mine? (And Nathan's and C-Man's?)

 And mine.

How about we win a World Cup, then we can show how strong our nation is.

Exactly.

why does the porto manager wear a armband on his wrist ?

That is the best comment of the day in my book.

I don't actually know the answer I'm afraid, I am sure someone on here will tell you, or you could just google it.

Think you sort of missed the point. I wouldn't want to see a Madrid vs Barca final, either. Or a Milan vs Inter one. Or a Llanelli vs TNS one, for that matter.

I'm saying I want two things out of the Champions League:

1. Teams from different countries playing each other.

2. Teams I know (Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and I guess Celtic?) pitting it out against teams like Barca, Milan, Bayern and co' that I can't watch them playing any other Saturday on Sky Sports twenty odd times per season domestically?

If that was to happen wouldn't the champions league become stagmented? At present teams are placed where they are from draws out of the hat. Think of the confusion which would arise if teams had to be hand picked to play other teams based on countries. Think of the controversy when Ac and Inter are both in the semi finals and one team has is picked to play say Aalborg and the other Man utd. It wouldn't be fair.

Just another angle to look at it from.

He wasn't the manager, he was the Assistant. The manager had a touchline ban! For some reason the manager decided he didn't want to be in the stadium at all if he couldn't be on the touchline. He gave the assistant the armband as a goodluck charm.

... huh?

Everyone's seriously over-complicating this...

How? Makes complete sense to me.

Im not here to argue just debate. You have placed a point, ive debated it and now the answer back is "it's over complicated".

Maybe your just getting complicated because your debate is weak?

For the last time: I'm not debating anything.

I'm just saying (and this is for the last time now, seriously, I promise) I'd rather watch Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal play against foreign teams as opposed to each other because I get to watch them play each other 20523853 times per season in domestic games and competitions anyway.

The manager wore it at Old Trafford during the first leg.

I can't be assed to google it so you lads can do your own homework here. But let me know please.

Well fair enough you can state things but I can't see why your so surprised people are debating your points, it what happens on a forum.

If you just want to write your two pence and thats it then don't reply to peoples points raised against yours.

This debate will be moot in a couple of years anyway. The richest clubs in Europe will go off and form their own SooperLeague TM in a a few years and we can go back to having decent watchable football competitions in this country again instead of the present commercial jizzfests we're supposed to endure and are constantly told to believe are the "best" in the world (I'm speaking of the Premier League as well as the "Champions" League here).

If any English club deserves to make it through to the European Cup final this year it's Man Ure, because they are the current English champions. The other three should not even be in the competition, and are only in it because of their potential marketability to other continents in comparison to the present champion clubs of other European nations.

I love it when someone talks sense.

Yeah that would be great, but I can never see that happening AFIE. :(

About the breakaway league? It could happen. The Premier League was formed as a breakaway, if Uefa and Fifa back it, and the relevant countries organisations are seduced by the clubs, saying they'll "help out our league" (which they won't, but they've got a hold over the Premier League and FA) then it could easily go ahead.

Maybe a few years from happening, but I wouldn't rule it out.

If you weren't talking about that, sorry for misunderstanding your post C-man lol

i want a final with at max one english team and for the match to be really boring and the english team to lose to shut up all the glory supporters in my classes.

A breakaway league been predicted for the last ten years.

It gets talked up whenever UEFA threatens anything that might affect the wealth of the bigger clubs. But there are too many logistical issues at the moment for it to ever happen.

I'm another one who finds watching all English games in the CL less interesting... I like watching one English team defy the odds, going past multiple exotic opponents. That said, Man Utd v Arsenal semi final is enticing. Am looking forward to one of those two v Barcelona, can only hope Chelsea get knocked out.
