Milky Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Samaras ghosted through the defence in slow motion and scuffed it into the corner.
Uncle Albert Posted 5 August 2009 Author Posted 5 August 2009 Scrap the new thread, this has had some debates in here and that should continue in one place. I love Champions League football.

dandannieldanok Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Does anyone know how they sort out these pots? It's strange to see the German champions ranked below the other German teams.
AjcW Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Does anyone know how they sort out these pots? It's strange to see the German champions ranked below the other German teams. thats what I was thinking. But its actually done on coefficiant points(whatever the hell they are).
Uncle Albert Posted 27 August 2009 Author Posted 27 August 2009 Does anyone know how they sort out these pots? It's strange to see the German champions ranked below the other German teams. From 1 to 32 they are all placed in the spot on how many coeficient points they have, so Barcelona are top because they have just won it and won it in 2006 aswell and are usually in the latter stages, the same with Chelsea even though they haven't won it, they have always been in the semi-final's since 2004. I think you get what I am saying, and this point system has only just been put in place or Madrid would be top. Obviously Debrechen are 32nd because this is their first time in the Champs League and have no points.
AjcW Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Apparently the coefficiant points also add to the european golden boot award. Like even if you score 50 in a season your club has to have coefficiant points for you to even be considered for the award. So confusing. Anyway theres some potentially tough groups there. Would love to see united and madrid in the same group, along with a couple of strong teams from the other pots.
Bryn Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Coefficient points are earned in various ways, including past European performance, not just league wins. It also takes into account the strength of the national league although obviously that's not relevant here.

Nah it's a multiplier. It's something like, 20 goals in the Premier League in this country, or in La Liga or Serie are, are worth 50 points. In Germany, 40 points. In somewhere like say, Sweden, only 20 points. I don't have the exact multipliers right, but that's the principle.

AjcW Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient Lets rely on wiki to sort out this issue
CosbehFox Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Does anyone know how they sort out these pots? It's strange to see the German champions ranked below the other German teams. Basically European experience in the past five years. Well described by those in here.
AjcW Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Are we using this thread or the other, best to sort it out before the draw starts.
StanSP Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Are we using this thread or the other, best to sort it out before the draw starts. Might as well use the 09/10 thread as most of this season's CL stuff is already there.
AjcW Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Might as well use the 09/10 thread as most of this season's CL stuff is already there. Apparently the debates that were in here might be reffered too and quoted again so it was mentioned that perhaps using this one is best... And to be honest the pools are above so thats all we really need.
AjcW Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Right pot two time... gowannn united and real madrid its got to happen..... Draw: Real Madrid.. AC Milan.. Marseille.. Zurich.. MC Prussian Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 What a draw for Zurich - blimey, getting only one point will be the biggest challenge. But I have faith and it's going to be some cracking nights over at the Letzigrund.
StanSP Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Toughest group - C, D or E. Expect Rangers to go through.
