Webbo Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Just saw this on TBLINK. 24 February 2009 : Cheltenham Hit By Transfer EmbargoLeague One basement side Cheltenham Town have been hit by a transfer embargo by the Football League. According to the Gloucestershire Echo the Robins have been blocked from bringing in any new players that would further increase their debts until they have sorted out an outstanding amount owed to fellow League One side Leicester City. The paper suggests that Leicester quartet James Wesolowski, Barry Hayles, Lethaniel Rowe Turner and Jonny Hayes are at the heart of the dispute, after manager Martin Allen took the players from his former club to Whaddon Road on loan deals earlier this season. The Robins are suffering serious cashflow problems this season, and last week paid their players a day late - a move blamed upon a number of postponed home matches during the last month or two. They have turned out in the region of 40 players this season with Allen ripping out almost the whole of his predecessor Keith Downing's side, and padding the side with loan signings. The throughput of players has seen a total of 17 incoming loan signings made so far this season. The 17th - Michail Antonio - arrived from Reading for Saturday's match at Leeds United, whilst Allen is also pressing for No.18 at present, with Wolves striker Ashley Hemmings in line to arrive in Gloucestershire. At present the 17 year old is unable to finalise his move to Whaddon Road, whilst Cheltenham argue with the Football League about what they can and can't do under the embargo. It appears that Wolves have agreed to pay the striker's wages whilst he is at the League One side, but at present there is no sign that the Football League have been willing to allow the deal to go through under those terms. With the late payment of players' wages and the transfer embargo in place, inevitably the local press are mentioning 'administration' although there's no hint that the Robins are that far down the line. On the field though they are at the last chance saloon - cut adrift by six points at the bottom of League One and without a win in 12 games. Their goal difference means that they are effectively 13 points from safety, and with them having picked up just one point from their last eight games, there is little sign of a recovery in progress. Tonight the Robins play sixth placed Millwall at Whaddon Road, knowing that they need to show promotion form between now and the end of the season to stand a chance of avoiding League Two football next season.
Bryn Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Martin Allen really is a useless twat, brings in shit player after shit player.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Martin Allen really is a useless twat, brings in shit player after shit player. martin allen bought keith andrews and lloyd dyer to MK on frees, he also bought in john paul mcgovern, sean o'hanlon and jemal johnson these players were not useless at all for us and as you've seen lloyd dyer is a quality player (well, he was for us, but so was jonny hayes while he was on loan to us)
DB11 Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Martin Allen really is a useless twat, brings in shit player after shit player.
dandannieldanok Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 martin allen bought keith andrews and lloyd dyer to MK on frees, he also bought in john paul mcgovern, sean o'hanlon and jemal johnsonthese players were not useless at all for us and as you've seen lloyd dyer is a quality player (well, he was for us, but so was jonny hayes while he was on loan to us) Just goes to show where his level is, League Two. He proved last season that he was in over his head in the championship and as Burnham says brought in shit player after shit player.
Corky Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009  Kaebi, Nielsen, Hellings, N'Gotty, Campbell (to an extent)?
Legend_in_blue Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Martin Allen really is a useless twat, brings in shit player after shit player. Weren't his players on the recommendation of his scouts? I wouldn't say he's a useless twat, he's part of a whole ineffective managerial outfit. Collectively, they were twats. The whole package, him, his scouts, whoever, total waste of space.
Babylon Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Kaebi, Nielsen, Hellings, N'Gotty MM Campbell Allen
FoxesFan123 Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Speaking of Weso, he hasn't played a game for Dundee yet has he? Take it he's injured
TrickyTrev Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 That explains why that fat waste of space Hayles is back at the club then.
Alexikokopops Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 MMAllen Hellings was on the recommendation of that guy we got from the Boro (who was promptly sacked). Wasn't Casino Jimmy the same, or did I make that up?
Bert Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 If they win tonight, and lose 5-0 on March the 7th, I think we should clear the debt.
Daggers Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 MMAllen He managed to say 'no!' to JFH - odd that he never managed it for the others if he had nothing to do with their signing s? I simply don't buy it that Allen had nothing to do with them.
demon_dog Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 If they win tonight, and lose 5-0 on March the 7th, I think we should clear the debt. They're winning at the moment 1 - 0 C'mon Cheltenham.

smokey Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Weren't his players on the recommendation of his scouts?I wouldn't say he's a useless twat, he's part of a whole ineffective managerial outfit. Collectively, they were twats. The whole package, him, his scouts, whoever, total waste of space. Thats right, but the man was a joke! Never liked him when he come in and knew he would be a mistake, yes i know he didnt get time but hey come on, he is the pits! I have never seen a side look so unfit as with him, all his mouthing off, joking and website updatse seemed to convince a lot of fans but not me! Cheltenham will go down this season because of him!
smokey Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 Speaking of Weso, he hasn't played a game for Dundee yet has he? Take it he's injured He is not with Dundee so i hope he as not played yet. He is at Dundee United with Craig Levein. He went there whilst on recovery from injury, so not available until match fit!
Alexikokopops Posted 24 February 2009 Posted 24 February 2009 disagree, but that's another debate. The guy you quoted is an MK Dons fan.
Jordan Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Leicester City the creditor organization, then! And a transfer embargo! My, how times have changed...
