Munzie Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 I agree that this season has been enjoyable. But, now that it's almost over and we're nearly back in the Championship, I've had enough of this division. League 1 - Was there, enjoyed it and even bought the t-shirt! But once is enough!
Corky Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 I've thoroughly enjoyed this season. Proper teams, new teams, top away supporters (Huddersfield, Hartlepool, Cheltenham, Oldham), some excellent away days (apart from MK Dons, all my away visits have been top drawer), and we've played football and had players who want to play for the shirt. Great post Daggers, agree with every word
Floating Fox Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 I couldn't agree less to be honest. I've never felt further from our club. And all this "proper team" and "Good away support" bollocks

Scow Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 It's been great. After 4-5 years of near relegation misses and shite football, it felt almost alien at first to be winning games week in week out. Although we've clearly been a level above the vast majority of teams this year, let's not forget we've had to work bloody hard to show it. We've not always been fluent and enterprising - we've had to battle to grind out results. As I mentioned in another thread, big teams have fallen to this level before and haven't coped with it. Other people may argue that Pearson had the squad to get us where we are - I can't argue with that, but sometimes that's just not enough. The attitude has been spot on and I hope we can carry this momentum on to next season should we get promoted.
Ultra Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Great season, no doubt, but best ever? I really don't think so. I can't wait till next season. This has been kids stuff, really. Cheltenham, for example, made us look like Real Madrid in both fixtures. Most teams have been utterly useless. Even when we praised teams like Peterborough and Huddersfield [amongst others] they weren't even all that. We managed to put 4 past Huddersfield in a game where our players couldn't be arsed to get out of 2nd gear - that tells you how tinpot this division is. It's absolutely embarrassing that it took Forest 3 years to get out of this hell hole, and as Kilworth said it''s equally embarrassing for Leeds that they've failed to master the art of League One. It has been fun being here, but let's hope we never ever ever return. Couldn't put it better.. Yes, this season has had its positives, including in all probability our first league title in nearly 30 years. But to glamorise or romanticise it, even before it's even finished, is way OTT. The fact that despite our long unbeaten run, attendances are still well below 20000, suggests that the rose-tinted views are not shared by too many of those outside Birmingham. The two games against Palace gave a true impression of how strong our side really is, and what may lie in wait for us next season. We all owe a great deal of thanks to Mandaric, not only for finally landing a half-decent manager at the umpteenth time of asking, but for not following normal business principles and cutting his losses at the first opportunity. Success this season has not been an enjoyable bonus - it's been an absolute necessity. Because let's face it, steamrollering the likes of Cheltenham and Yeovil is NOT what Leicester City should be about. We've competed with some of the best in Europe before and should be aiming for that level again. Why settle for GCSEs when you can aim for and receive a degree?
ASH17LCFC Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Worst season in our history maybe ? Been horrible and i'm glad its nearly over. We shouldn't be this low.
Unabomber Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Worst season in our history maybe ? Been horrible and i'm glad its nearly over.We shouldn't be this low. I can understand being in this league may be horrible, but surely winning so many great away games and generally having a good time on the road isn't. I can't wait to get out of this league, but I have loved every minute of it at the same time.
ACF Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 A pretty good season. How can we not lose in 23 games and people say that it was a horrible season? *looks at ASHLCFC17* Though at least in the championship we do get TV Coverage over here, so I'm relying(sp?) on davieG for the goals

I expected us to win the league and nothing else. You haven't sat through it to be fair. Its not nice.
MC Prussian Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 @Ultra: I share some of your thoughts, but you might want to consider that a drop in division is usually always connected to a relative loss in spectators per game. Sauf Leeds, who still have a very loyal following, we're pretty much out of reach in that category. It's still a great compliment to the LCFC supporters to come up with an average of about 18'500 fans a game. That's more than 50 percent of the Walkers' capacity and still pretty respectable and a sign of how faithful the true "core" really is. And Gates will rise again with a promotion to the Championship - back to about 22'000 per game, I'm sure of that. AND... We've done the right thing so far, which is pulling away from all the other teams and avoiding the mistakes Forest and Leeds have done in the past. BUT... A lot of it boils down to luck. Who would've thought Pearson could do such a great job and bring players together in such spectacular fashion? Who knew that the "On loan to League One" tour could actually act as a big unifying event for supporters to strengthen their ties with the club? Btw, is there any financial gain connected to automatic promotion to the Championship - like with the teams that get to the Premier League, but only on a smaller scale? I wonder if Milan's financial worries could be slightly soothed...
Daggers Posted 9 March 2009 Author Posted 9 March 2009 Some of you don't get it, and I'm glad. For me this was a great season - not the quality of the football but the quality of the days out it gave. I'm glad there's thousands of moaning bastards who stopped coming, I'm delighted that I haven't had to read shit about us in Europe - I don't give a toss about the Premiership or the European Cup. This was a season of real football only cocked up by our playing well. The winning gets a bit dull after a while and I don't need it to fill a void in my life just like I don't need to compete with Man U fans on the workplace playground. If you didn't get any joy from Yeovil away or Hartlepool away then you really are a sad f@ck. If you didn't go then I'm wondering why you have an opinion.
Kilworthfox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Well all these records are shite, wow 23 games unbeaten, Its nothing to be proud of. I expected us to win the league and nothing else. You haven't sat through it to be fair. Its not nice. I rarely aree with you! But you are spot on here, 23 unbeaten games sounds brilliant, but against who? All nomarks who should never be on our radar. I understand the view of getting back to some "real" football, but I have not found this, as SUAS I do not feel any closer to the club than when we were relegated, in fact i am much further from them! Also some posters on here seem to chop & change opinion week to week, one week the club are cretinous the next we are proud of beating a crap Cheltenham 4 - 0. Odd.
Dr The Singh Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 It's been a very nicey nicey season, we 've done well to get to a promotion stage, and it is as expected!! Next season, will be alot more interesting, I want to see blood, guts and passion (maybe sex if there soem fit ladies fancying some) from our team and our support!! On the front of 'best season' because of the support and fun we've had, TBH, I haven't had much of a chance to go to many games, so I can't comment!!
cecchini Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 I can't help but agree with Daggers in the most part. This has been a good season, we are top by some margin and living here in Luxembourg, with the internet and text messages from my brother the only sustenence i have, its been warming to think that we have not gone the way of over premiership or old div 1 clubs and slid down the slope into obscurity. Pearson seems to have brought the belief back into the side, and it is a pleasure to wacth us play (when i can)- you may remember the season we were relegated under Taylor, Mickey Adams bounced us straight back winning almost every game in the championship, but we came down again. Will that happen next year? (don't think so) We are a different LCFC from then, more stable and financially sound, while Milan continues to invest and pearson succeeds there's no reason why we should not get to the prem next season. Daggers point about enjoying the games, taking one's son to the match and passing on the passion is what it's about is it not? Constantly losing is horrible, but constantly winning can be boring as well! (so manure will win the prem - and?, for them succeeding in Europe is important because they are more "tested" there and the games are more exciting) the rollercoaster of emotion when surviving relegation and punching above our weight during the O'Neil years is what is exciting. We have the basis of what we need to be a prem side - good support and a good stadium - we need good business and team management (the first i have no clue about - the second i think we have) all we need is to construct a side that can compete at that level. This year has been good (still 10 games to go!) next year will be better! Up the Foxes!

Am I the only the one that's enjoyed the football that has been played in this division? A lot of teams, well much more than I expected, have tried to pass it, and it makes a great change to the fooking Championship which is 'long ball, long ball, set piece'.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Glad you're renewing. a) I never doubted you would. b) There's something special about going to games with your son. c) The whole scenario wouldn't be quite the same without you. Why does Thracian enjoy going to matches with Daggers' son? Potentially. Been great fun this season - though I can remember other great seasons in the dim and distant past when footbal was football.

davieG Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Am I the only the one that's enjoyed the football that has been played in this division? A lot of teams, well much more than I expected, have tried to pass it, and it makes a great change to the fooking Championship which is 'long ball, long ball, set piece'. Me, I think the style of football on the whole has been better than the Championship. Of course the individual players are not Championship standard and some of the defences and strikers have been woeful which has led to many teams taking on a defensive approach particularly when playing away. But the underlying style for a majority of the teams has been to try to pass the ball. In the Championship too many teams rely on the 'Howard' factor, like we have on far too many occasions, my lasting memory of the Championship was a battle of the 'hoof'. I also think there has been less gamesmanship, faking injuries, time wasting, diving it has occurred but far less than the Championship.
CosbehFox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 I want to write a novel on it all. It's made me re-evaluate the Premiership which I have increasingly became tired with as this season as gone on. The only thing I've missed is that big game occasion which I felt at Dons and Hudds. I've said before that the standard of football is better than the Championship, it's just the players ain't.
CosbehFox Posted 9 March 2009 Posted 9 March 2009 Some of you don't get it, and I'm glad. The point you are trying to get at Daggers is that this has been the most enjoyable season as a fan and benefits and perks as a fan. No police escorting, getting searched, silly plonkers at a low and the majority in the company of real fans. You won't get a run of such an excellent set of away days. It may not be the best season football wise or for the club but the fan it will be. I've realised myself that once the 92's out the way, for me watching Leicester will be at a low - I'll be doing non-league and that sort of stuff or foreign games.

There is no right or wrong answer to this. I have disliked this season all in all. I have seen some decent football, but not much. I have seen some decent fans, but not many. I have had some decent days but mostly crap ones. Everyones day will be different, so will their oipinions. I will be happy to be a good side in the championship with great cup runs at the moment. When football becomes a working mans game again I would like LCFC to be in the top divioson & successful, but at present that is not worth ruining my day & wallet for.

You miserable git, if you carry on like this we'll have to make sure we continue going to pubs that are 'too far away' for you. The positives from this season far outweight the negatives if you put them up against the last 4 seasons of scrapping to beat the drop. I personnally have no great desire for City to go back into the premier league soon but the financials mean we have to try and get back up there. Hopefully next season will be a better one than our recent champ seasons but if we are in a similar situation to forest this time next year I'm sure we'll all be pretty fed up.

I am looking forward to Leeds just because they will bring a few, I may go to Millwall as they are acceptable opposition, but come on this league win has been a walk in the park. I have laughed at the opposition this season so much, & as you know I have resorted to cheering them on if we go ahead. how bad is that hey!
