Best Season

I've loved this season more than any other, a division of real teams and true supporters. Look on the Cheltenham forum - the poster who states it is his aim every season to finish one spot above relegation, and yet goes to matches home and away in good humour and good voice. No petty, bitter rivalry based on geographical location.

Standing and singing, late nights in far-flung smalltown England. Played thirty six, won twenty two - goals for sixty nine. Dyer's mad accidental chip, King's piledriving, 97th minute equalisers; when we've been bad we've just been a bit dull and yet when we've been good it's been an absolute joy.

Fryatt's turns and Steve being super.

Aleksandar Tunchev.

There's been a huge travelling community from Foxestalk this season too; arriving to some random location after breaking down for the seventeenth time to good-natured piss-taking, trains to beer-fuelled celebrations. Ched started a thread about the cost of watching football - it never highlighted what you got in return over and above seeing a game.

And then there was the growing frequency of attendance of my lad, sharing an experience. Bonding. If I renew at some point this week it will be because of everything I will miss if I don't, and now that the lad is pumped with the club it is looking ever more likely again! *And in the process of typing this I've just been told we are getting season tickets "...aren't we Dad!" Damn. :D

It's totally subjective, but this has been my favourite ever season for so many reasons - the one which has given me so many laughs and good times. Thank you everyone on FT for contributing to that

Glad you're renewing.

a) I never doubted you would.

b) There's something special about going to games with your son.

c) The whole scenario wouldn't be quite the same without you.

Fully agree about this season.

Nice to see us back to winning ways.

Have a team that finally seems to have confidence and self belief.

No media seeking or funny quotations type manager.

A chairman who at last seems to trust the manager.

All the fans who turn up to watch what is effectively a 3rd division game.

Hopefully were all moving onward and upward, with a cheery smile and a friendly wave.

Anyone want to Conga?

Without a doubt this is my favourite season of supporting City, and like Daggers, I have everyone on Foxestalk to thank for that.

Living up here means I can't really organise going to games with anyone, but because of people like LD3, Tom, Joe, Andy, Katy, Tadman, Bert etc I always know there will be someone there to share my Saturday with.

17 away games and counting, it's been expensive and I really considered not renewing because of the added cost of travelling, but in the end I just felt I had to because of this year's memories.

Fryatt at Orient, Dyer at Huddersfield and Northampton, Steve at Oldham and Hartlepool, King at Carlisle and S****horpe, the FT crush at Yeovil, the whole team at Walsall, Bunn at Brizzle and Gradel at MK. Those days and moments will last me forever.

Thank you Nige because WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, CHAMPIONS OF LEAGUE ONE.

Daggers, I love you. Can I be your second son?

Just forget about the added costs for a moment, alright? Think of what you get in return. lol

Perfectly summed up - proof that the level / tier of football really takes second place to the events of the season. My personal faves so far have been the banter with Pearson and the players on the Bristol terrace, Gradel's equaliser at the Dons and the Cheltenham fans yesterday.

When was the last season when we actually had the opportunity to properly enjoy it? Obviously the fact that we're doing well means everyone's in much better spirits, but most of this season's special moments haven't even been about picking up 3 points!

We've just got to keep our feet on the ground and see out the rest of the season - I'm hoping that there'll be a few more great moments before the end (Millwall, Peterborough etc?)

...but I am totally not going back into the Swan.

Ever.

Until the next time.

You didn't miss anything yesterday. The place was full of egg-chasers and what the hell do they feed em on? There were all about 8 foot 7 and built like ro-ro containers.

You couldn't move. Half the punters ended up drinking in the street. And cos they won they were all back there afterwards. Even Grant had his Tigers shirt on. I was soon on my way!

To make it worse the other pub near the Uni ran out of most beers! What sort of landlord runs out of beer when their pub is going to be packed. :frusty:

Its just nice to love the club again, have favourite players, actually want to go to games and as soon as a game is finished you want the next game to come along.

We had a thread like this a few weeks ago.

I don't care if "it's only League One" and "Should be beating teams like these" and "Walking the League like we are",

We are in League One for a reason - We were shite last season and the previous 4 or 5 season, and now we are in League One we can only play what is infront of us - We are winning and playing well on a whole and I love it.

"We should be beating teams like these"/"Walking the League" - I suppose that is right, but alot of teams that get relegated this this League struggle in recent years - Forest? Leeds? I read something before the season saying no 'big' team that has been relegated to this League had gone straight back up automatically.

I do want to go up (And even if I didn't tough - Because we are.) but do fear it.

It used to be a case of too good for the Championship, Not quite good enough for the Premiership. I fear the case might be too good for League One, Not quite good enough for the Championship now...I hope that is totally wrong.

Yes, this does have to be the best ever season!

I know that we have come up against sides like Cheltenham and Hereford, no disrispect.

But wether it is The Premiership, Championship, League 1 or 2, even Sunday league... whatever! Half a season unbeaten is truly outstanding and sensational!

This is an easy league to drop into but hard to get out of, look at the bigger sides that have struggled in this league in previous years:

It took Sheffield Wednesday two years, Leeds are on their second year, it took Forest three years!

We have/will (hopefully) have done it in one year.

Well done Nigel Pearson and the unsung hero that is Milan [is a Leicester fan] Mandaric!

For the top class signings of; Tunchev, Morrison and Dyer - Players that have never really played in League 1, Nigel has made them into top League 1 players.

The loans; Hobbs, Gilbert, Martin, Cleverly and Davies. - Finally a manager sniffed around the top clubs for players.

The cover signings when required; Edworthy, Bunn, Powell and Stockdale.

Getting players' confidence back; Matt Fryatt who never had a chance last year! 28 goals now! Brilliant!

Of course the results; a draw at Elland Road, scoring four at proper grounds like Whaddon Road and The Bescott Stadium.

:chant:

Is Nige the new Martin O'Neill?

Well done again to everyone involved at the club!

We are going up, NigelPearsonsBlue&WhiteArmy! :scarf:

Its been a good season.

Which seems even greater after 5 seasons of utter shit, finally a good season.

Best season ever :dunno: probably not when you compare it to getting into Europe twice with MON.

But definately the best season since then that ive seen anyway.

Regardless of being in League One, even the most optimistic fan couldn't have seen us win 20+ games, play shit and still win, and score last minute winners.

Roll on next season i say :scarf:

I have thoroughly enjoyed this season so far and League One has been a great deal more fun than expected. Genuine, decent fans loyal to teams who, with all due respect, are never going to be a force have been an absolute joy.

Can we really imagine being able to share the same pub pre-match with opposition supporters next season? Plenty of good old-fashioned grounds in little towns that we may never have the chance to visit again, going to games in expectation rather than blind hope and being a big draw for so many teams has been fantastic. I'm almost going to miss this division, and I didn't think I'd be saying that after that horrible day at Stoke in May.

Don't get me wrong, the novelty would have worn off if we looked like staying here for two or three years as Forest and now Leeds have done, but I'm sure we'll all look back on 2008/2009 with great fondness. I personally have met some great FTers who have been, without exception, a pleasure to go to the pub and games with and I hope this can continue into next season as we return to the more familiar destinations of Hillsborough, Selhurst Park and the Britannia Stadium ( :fc: ).

Roll on the Championship and mid-table mediocrity!

Well if I missed some away games next season because I had no priority I'd be kicking myself.

Steve's goal against Peterborough, Fryatt's two hat-tricks, yesterday's game, still got Leeds and Scunny to come, I think it's worth it.

I have enjoyd this season, but I'm not wanting to come back here ever again.

Sure, the old fashioned grounds have been fun and we've had some brilliant away games in general.

However, I really do miss that feeling of scoring a goal that means a hell of a lot. We've had some obviously, MK, Scunny, Huddersfield. But a lot of times away from home and at home it's just sort of been expected. Next year will be a big challenge for us where we'll need to be competitive. I reckon we have a great chance of challenging up at the top if we keep the loanees and bolster up top.

Enjoyable season, but lets not make it a wasted one and not kick on next year.

I touched on this in the "my assesment" thread but was shot down by Ultra and accused of being a cov fan lol cock.

Completely agree with everything C-Man and Daggers have said and reading their post's bring back great memories. Unfortunatly for me 95% of those memories have as Ched mentioned been away from home which combined with moving away from Leices will mean I probably won't renew but will certainly still attend every away if only for the lads I go with, it really is a sure fire guarantee of a fantastic time.

Post's like the ones above make me realise what a priveledge it is to support this great club and know the fantastic people I do and that's with huge thanks to the forum.

I've really enjoyed it. I love the way we've gone about the season the right way, and gained so much praise and respect from other clubs.

That said, i don't want to return here again.

agree with you - I've been to more away games this year than ever before because I enjoy the atmosphere of the smaller crappy grounds and feeling that we are gonna win - S****horpe and Bristol Rovers away were great fun.... I guess its just nice to win more than we lose

I have not enjoyed this season.

Now when we score for me there is little to celebrate, I find myself cheering on the opposition if we go ahead. I want Leicester to be winners, but on a level playing field. This is kids stuff for Leicester. I am still ashamed of our current status, last season was unforgivable and this seasons good performance angainst poor opposition has done little but too retain our / my minimum expectations of teams whom we should compete with / against.

Cheltenham have been the worst, no doubt. However I have been subjected too horrendus football this season. Leicester have looked like Manchester United / Real Madrid in this division, does that not tell anyone about the standard of this division? How a club like Leeds can not master the art of this league is beyond belief, how Forest scrapped into 2nd last year is laughable from what I can see.

I enjoyed the backend of last season when the fans were filling away teams grounds and singing for 90 minutes +. Even though we went down, the games them selves were much better & so was the atmosphere. The 1 good thing about league 1 is the teams abilitys in comparison to ours, which has left us vertually promoted in March.

Bring on the championship 09/10

Posted

Lovely post Daggers. Agree with everything you've said (apart from the Son bit) We're in league 1 because we deserved to go down last season. I never thought I would love this season so much on that fateful day in May, when my hand was pouring with blood and I had downed about 7 festival strength pear ciders whilst watching the game in the pub with tears pouring down my face.

Thanks for making me love my club again Nige and the lads

Great season, no doubt, but best ever? I really don't think so.

I can't wait till next season. This has been kids stuff, really. Cheltenham, for example, made us look like Real Madrid in both fixtures. Most teams have been utterly useless. Even when we praised teams like Peterborough and Huddersfield [amongst others] they weren't even all that. We managed to put 4 past Huddersfield in a game where our players couldn't be arsed to get out of 2nd gear - that tells you how tinpot this division is.

It's absolutely embarrassing that it took Forest 3 years to get out of this hell hole, and as Kilworth said it''s equally embarrassing for Leeds that they've failed to master the art of League One.

It has been fun being here, but let's hope we never ever ever return.

Posted

Surely the season we finished 8th in the Premiership, won the League Cup and generally looked like a damn good side that could challenge near the top 6 for a while was good?

But I have to agree that this season has been very entertaining... if only because we get to see our team win. :D
