maddog Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 1. Fryatt 2. Tunchev 3. Davies 4. Howard 5. Dyer 6. King 7. Hobbs 8. Berner 9. Powell 10. Cleverly 11.Morrison 12.Gilbert 13. Oakley 14. Mattock 15. Gradel 16. Martin 17. Hayles 18. Adams 19. Dickov That pretty much covers the major players this season, baring in mind you pick 16 for each match, theres only 19 core players (unless i've missed anyone obvious ) which shows our squad isn't as large as we thought, and infact is very thin indeed. Had Fryatt or Howard got a long term injury like Tunchev did at that time, i rekon we will be around 6th place now. Due to injuries or being out of favour etc, Henderson, Edworthy, Kisnorbo, Clemence, Dj, Logan, Wesolowski, N Gotty, Psssh, Worley, Chambers, O Neil, Craig King, Cisak, Verma, Pentney, Stockdale, Cox, Rowe Turner, Sappleton. So we have only really played with those 18 players, and theres 20 players listed there who have hardly figured. We are so fooked next season in the Championship unless we sign at least 8 new players, and sell off most of that deadwood

Fox92 Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 You have Cleverly but no Davies? Davies top for me then
Corky Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 What the hell is Martin doing down in 15th? This is maddog talking remember. Howard in 4th? Have you had a knock to the head?
maddog Posted 1 April 2009 Author Posted 1 April 2009 Knew id forget one Put Davies in 3rd I never rated Martin, a few of the others are debatable.
Asha Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 1. Fryatt2. Tunchev 3. Howard 4. Dyer 5. King 6. Hobbs 7. Berner 8. Powell 9. Cleverly 10. Morrison 11.Gilbert 12.Oakley 13. Mattock 14. Gradel 15. Martin 16. Hayles 17. Adams 18. Dickov It's very hard to rank players accurately now over the course of the whole season, as it's very retrospective. People will obviously remember the most recent games and won't have as accurate an account of the earlier games. Clearly shown by you putting Cleverley ahead of Oakley, despite Oakley being solid all season...just having a few difficult performances recently.
Legend_in_blue Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 I'm basing my ranking on consistency. The player at number 1 for me ought to be player of the season too. So here it is... 1. Hobbs 2. Tunchev 3. Howard 4. King 5. Fryatt 6. Oakley 7. Dyer 8. Cleverley 9. Powell 10. Martin 11. Gilbert 12. Morrison 13. Mattock 14. Gradel 15. Berner 16. Hayles 17. Dickov 18. Adams Although someone explain the point of this? What about Davies? He's played as many as Cleverley did surely? He should be included.
maddog Posted 1 April 2009 Author Posted 1 April 2009 This is maddog talking remember.Howard in 4th? Have you had a knock to the head? Well even though i don't see it that often, he must be doing something very right otherwise we wouldn't have won so many games with him in the team, and played so useless when hes been out.

There doesn't have to be a point - it's not like we ever 'achieve' anything on here anyway! Just a bit of fun. My two pence worth: 1) Tunchev 2) Fryatt 3) Howard 4) Hobbs 5) King 6) Oakley 7) Gilbert 8) Dyer 9) Berner 10) Martin 11) Gradel 12) Morrison 13) Mattock 14 (millionth)) Dickov That said, Tunchev wouldn't be my player of the year as he's been out since Jan.

Maddog has officially made himself more reasonable than Thracian by actually accepting a well made point. Incredible.

Maybe it was just me, but I'm pretty sure Corky was trying to suggest he should be higher than that.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 Can't be arsed to do a list but for best I'd go for Fryatt and Howard pretty much equal, with honourable mentions for Tunchev and Davies. Worst would have to be Mattock, neither Hayles or Dickov have played enough to take that mantle imo, although they are shite.
Flynny Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 Maybe it was just me, but I'm pretty sure Corky was trying to suggest he should be higher than that. Nah he wasn't, he was surprised at Maddog not having him bottom.
Asha Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 Nah he wasn't, he was surprised at Maddog not having him bottom. :frusty: Stupid me.
Jimmy Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 I know he's a brilliant player but how can someone who's only played half a season be so high up?
Corky Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 Nah he wasn't, he was surprised at Maddog not having him bottom. That's the one Sorry Nuss

Totally agree about Hobbs, he'll be my player of the season too...
Thracian Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 For me our player of the season has been Howard. Tunchev only played half the season, Fryatt has been disappointing second half and looks especially ineffective when Howard's not there, Davies was excellent but, again, only for a smallish part of the campaign. Yes, Fryatt's first half of the season goals did much to establish our position at the top of the table but he was greatly assisted by Howard who has taken so much weight off others this season.

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 DJ isn't included but he played just as many (if not more) games as Davies this season didn't he? I'm not certain.

Yeah but I mean, if you include Davies he'll probably be top five on most people's lists. You include DJ and more or less everyone will have him bottom 3. Is there really a point?
