maddog Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 6 home draws in 7 games. And in between those games were draws at Mk Dons and Hartlepool and loses at P'Boro and Tranmere. Fooking shocking. We are so lucky there is only 5 games left, if there were 10 we would get caught up. We would have been better off winning 3 and losing 4 of those home games So lucky Millwall lost on Tuesday night, had they won that i would be quaking in my boots now. As it is a win next week will almost seal it. Millwall still have to play P'Boro.
Bert Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 The thing that makes it worse about today was, the relief after thinking you've scored an 88th minute winner. We'll be ok.

Thracian Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 That was almost as scandalous a waste as the one which cost us a home win against Charlton last season and subsequent relegation. There was no excuse for it. I've talked about us giving away possession unnecessarily and that's what lead to our downfall. But after plenty of other examples all match it was one of our best players on the day, Andy King who was the intial culprit. After doing so much to create the goal which put us ahead he twice punted similar hopeful balls up to no-one from blind situations. It was so out of character and so reflecting of a lack of guidance from the manager or anyone else in respect of what expected should we be ahead with time riunning out. Others have asked this season why we call everyone back into the box instead of leaving a man up front and an "out" ball. That's not excusing King because he's played in the team long enough to know that he was punting the ball nowhere. But, had he been caught in possession it wouild have been as bad. So a) there should have been and out ball and b) he should have gotthe call "time" and someone should have offered a pass. Even then - and despite the handball that everyone saw except the referee, why there was no challenge on the goalscorer in the penalty area is inexcusable. Hobbs had moved to right back but neither Brown, Kisnorbo nor Warner were anywhere to be seen when Scott Dobie said thanks very much for a free header. Carlisle were as ordinary as you'd expect of a visiting team with so many injury problems and after a lamentable first half we'd scored two excellent goals which saw the return of first time give and go passing movements and slick finishes. Lloyd Dyer did well to work the first for Matt Oakley and it was the King/Dyer combination which put the second on a plate for Fryatt. And really, that should have been that. Maintain the momentum, keep passing the ball quickly and don't allow Carlisle the time and space to come onto you for the closing exchanges. Instead we responded and were led like a team of schoolkids. I'm not even especially mad about the handball. The referee can argue it was accidental and he'd not given accidental handball all match. He was therefore, at least, consistent. Of far more concern was why he didn't give a penalty for an earlier foul on Howard or even for the admittedly contrived foul on Fryatt in the box though a foul it was, no question. Oh yes and why he didn't at least book Carlisle left-backj Ewan Horwood for his lowlife play-acting in trying to get Max Gradel sent off for a nothing incident which he tried to make out was some sort of full-blooded assault. Bottom line is we drew a game we should have won and would may well have won but for Williams brilliantly deflecting a viciously swerving King shot which was heading for the corner, had another effort from King not been blocked on the far post, had Fryatt not had a first half blocked on the line with two City players missing the follow-ups and had Matt Oakley slotted home his chance near the end from just a couiple of yards. In attack, particularly second half, we were much more acceptable but our defence continued to leak goals after Kisnorbo's return. I had him seriously at fault for their first goal and generally ranginjg from lamentable to ordinary in the first half and not that much better in the second given that Carlisle were hardly marauding attackers and that they levelled the game from a free header. As for Ajdaravic's debut the bloke clearly has some skill and the cockiness to use it but whether he has the urgency and application we're going to need I don't know. King's return made us look more of a team and Gradel did little enough wrong to be substituted, arrowing one glorious cross low across the goalmouth which should have been gobbled up and managing to have several shots which indicated a growing confidence. For all that, two points shamefully wasted which I believe could well cost us the title now.
C-man Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Maybe I'm the only one but I don't think we played that badly today. 63% possession, 10 shots on target, 16 corners. I thought things just went against us, mainly great goalkeeping and some more than slack defending. I thought Astrit was pretty useful. He moved the ball quickly and effectively in the main. If Sods is right about Morrison having a hissy fit, its a shame, because I'd like to see him back in for Kisnorbo till the end of the season. Also a shame about Kerrea, looked a bad one and he'll probably be out for the season. Bridges and Graham were a handful, but to let Dobie score was heart-breaking. People may blame Kisnorbo/Brown (I can't remember which one) for not getting tight to him, but it was pathetic to let Hobbs be double-teamed like that and let them get a cross in. Embarassing, and criminal defending. I'm absolutely gutted right now and I probably won't feel happy until we next win a game. I just hope that happens to be next Saturday.
CSKA SOFIA Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Sorry to everyone but LIIIIIIIVERPOOOOOOOOOOL, LIIIIIIIIVERPOOOOOL, LIIIIVERRRRPOOOOOOOL!
Daggers Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 The second half yes. Not all of it. The first half was gash, the second spluttered but never caught fire. I know you don't care how we go up, I do. Having spent so long at the top and been so commanding for most of the season it really upsets me to see us just piss on all of the hard work.

I don't want to throw it away now.
DB11 Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Hobbs at right back DOESN'T WORK And the ref put the whistle to his mouth to blow in the build up to their second goal (when it was handball) but didn't blow
Salieri Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Sorry to everyone but LIIIIIIIVERPOOOOOOOOOOL, LIIIIIIIIVERPOOOOOL, LIIIIVERRRRPOOOOOOOL! BASTARDS! I had a tenner on HT draw, FT draw at 5/1 and they score a 93rd minute winner! That caps my day off after Carlisles late equaliser and losing a shed load on the Grand National! Oh, and another last minute goal cost me £78 in my footie acca! Oh well, there's always the Lottery
C-man Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Hobbs at right back DOESN'T WORK And the ref put the whistle to his mouth to blow in the build up to their second goal (when it was handball) but didn't blow And what do you suggest we should have done about it today?

davieG Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 And what do you suggest we should have done about it today? Morrison, who's put in some creditable performances at right back when called upon on the bench instead of Brown.

Jesus Christ, The referee must have been bad or made a bad decision today if DB11 is making bad comment and judging a referee.

Having spent so long at the top and been so commanding for most of the season it really upsets me to see us just piss on all of the hard work. I want us to go up as champions, don't get me wrong. But would you rather us go up, after finishing second, or not go up at all? You need to do something about that red "top" you were wearing today.
