Craig Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 Anyone hear about/experience this? The reason the ticket office, club shop, 1884 etc were closed around 1-1.30. Apparently the Carlisle players weren't able to enter the ground either? We were in the 1884, and a message came over the tannoy saying something like "Attention! Attention! Could the club carpenter please contact the secretaries office". Then 20-30 minutes later another message came over the tannoy saying "Attention! Attention! The club carpenter is no longer required in the secretaries office". This is their 'code' for letting their staff know that such an incident happening apparently

Jimmy Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 surely it would take longer then an hour and half to search something as big as the Walkers properly if there was a bomb scare
Craig Posted 4 April 2009 Author Posted 4 April 2009 surely it would take longer then an hour and half to search something as big as the Walkers properly if there was a bomb scare Maybe they found a suspect package? Knew where it was, and had to call in the Police or something? I don't know I suppose it could have been a test run, but i'm not sure they'd want to lose money in sales by doing so
Katy Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 We bumped into Fez, Alex and Fez's mate on the way to the 1884 bar and they said they had been 'kicked out' of the club shop because of a security alert. When we walked futher down we could see that even the Carlisle team coach wasn't even allowed into the car park. We hung about for about 10 minutes and were then allowed into the 1884. Still don't know what it was about but they were checking bins and all sorts apparently.
EnglishOxide Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 When that message comes up, it's not normally a test run. We found nothing in our section though Maybe i'll find out what happened next game.

5waller5 Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 There was a phone call received .... it did take them half an hour to search the ground and find out that the call was a prank .... better safe than sorry - but there really are some sad characters in this world if that's how they get their kicks.
5waller5 Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 It's the code that most public buildings use - think it started out as life as code for "we're sinking" on boats .... so the crew would know and be able to carry out their duties without screaming passengers getting in the way!!
Alexikokopops Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 They were checking bins when Fez, Hayden and I were collecting Hayden's ticket. We went in the club shop after and got chucked out (as Katy mentioned). Then we were heading to Morrisons to pick some food up and there was a big line of security stewards walking along and checking the ground/trees
Matt Posted 4 April 2009 Posted 4 April 2009 When I got near the ground I walked past a steward/policeman - Didn't take much notice of what authority they were part of but they had a walkie talkie thing and I heard "Get a Police check on both changing rooms" I thought nothing of it, until I got round the near the shop, bar, e.t.c, and I saw the Carlisle coach, The shop was closed and everyone was outside. I heard it was a fire alarm, but only a chinese whisper.

If it was a fire, surely we'd have been evacuated out of the 1884? Not sure why we weren't anyway
AmericanScott Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 Club carpenter haha If you're ever in the Highcross shopping centre and you hear an announcement for proffesor plum or Mr. Black, get the fook out.
Fox92 Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 I heard the club carpenter thing and I was stood next to the bus when that was stood still for ages. Didn't know about the bomb thing though.
BrockwellFox Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 This is their 'code' for letting their staff know that such an incident happening apparently been mentioned further up the thread, but another common one for fire is "Mr Sands" - so if you hear someone asking for "Inspector Sands" it means there might be a fire but they're not sure, if you hear that Mr Sands is in the building, get out at "club carpenter" though, wonder if we actually have one? they could at least come up with something a bit less odd-sounding..

I am a marshal for bike racing, and if we hear 'will the circuit carpenter report to race control' on the radio it means there is a bomb scare and we have to get ready to evacuate the crowd. if it is genuine they give out anothe message, but i can't remember what it is, so i'd be no fooking use!
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 5 April 2009 Posted 5 April 2009 Haha wtf is that code about? & somehow i doubt the walkers is top of terrorists' lists of places to bomb
