Chelsea v Barca/United v Arse

I flitted between that and 606 last night. The amount of Chelsea fans claiming conspiracy theories was laughable.

How many refs, who want one team to win a game, send off a player from that team?

The ref had a poor game, that was all.

I saw no signs of a conspiracy theory being justified. In fact if I have one criticism of the referee it is that he seemed to want the players to sort the match rather than himself with his decisions.

When you do see situations like last night you do wonder at the wisdom of the football authorities retiring referees like Collina when they're performing at their best.

At first glance last night even the referee's sending off decision looked right enough although it was desperately difficult to see precisiely what happened and I never quite understand why referees don't help themselves by refusing to give anything they don't actually see.

With the first penalty claim it could be argued that the first foul was outside the box, the referee tried to allow advantage and when the Chelsea player was finally baulked he gave the original foul (although it was never where the ball was placed).

With the shirt pull on Drogba it was momentary and there was no way the referee could be certain from his angle that Drogba wasn't making his own contribution.

Any referee is bound to be suspicious of Drogba whenever he goes down. There are any number of shirt tugs in a penalty box whenever there's a dead ball situation, for instance, and while it probably was a penalty when all the evidence is examined I don't see that it was any easy call for any referee given one momentary chance to assess what happened.

Even with the blatant handball the referee could at least be understood for seeing it as ball to hand. I'd disagree with him. For me the hand was out, there was time to move it away, Anelka was denied any chance to move onto the ball and a potential goal was therefore prevented. Mistake by the referee yes, but more a bloke not wanting to give the game to Chelsea than evidence of bias.

I find it quite interesting how UEFA can look at an incident like this after the event, despite the referee making his decision and booking Drogba. Yet they seem unable to do the same regarding Darren Fletcher and the rescinding of his red card.

Exactly, A point I was going to make after the Man Utd match the other night but for some reason didn't, How can UEFA investigate/look into the referee's conduct, look into decision's he made, but yet the can't rescind a red card.

IF someone had hit someone during a match but the referee/assistants didn't see it for example, no doubt the player who did it will be pulled up after the match and get punished (This is allowed I would have thought) yet they cannot rescind cards.

Referee's need to sort them out before they can get any respect - They don't deserve some of the abuse we see, and i've said it time and time again but they certainly don't deserve respect when referee's consistently make the wrong decisions on clear fouls, penalties, freekicks, etc.

You earn respect.

I'm surprised resident referee DB11 hasn't had a view on this yet. No doubt last night referee did no wrong

As much as i'm slagging the referee off it's quite nice for him to have made bad decision's against Chelsea. :giggle:

Firstly, I hate the away goals rule, but what can you do?

I dont it. Its there to make teams like Chelsea try and attack an away leg and snatch a goal.

They have been sucker puched and Im loving it.

I've just seen the 4 Penalty decisions.

1st) No Penalty, It was outside the box, I think - And the referee had blown the whistle when play was outside the box anyway.

2nd) Probably was a Penalty, and although it shouldn't happen Drogba has made a reputation for himself of falling, it shouldn't happen but Drogba's reputation has got the better of him.

3rd) Peno, Clear hand ball.

4th) No peno.

So 2 clear penalties but Drogba's consistant diving has cost him, and the referee fooked up with the other, Its about time 1 of the big teams got fooked over by a referee, How many time have we got fooked over not getting Penalties, e.t.c?

Besides the sending off was NEVER a sending off. At the end of the day this referee was poor, he deserves all this criticism but Chelsea sound as if they fooked themselves from what people have said by putting 10 men behind the ball over both legs, even at home with Barcelona a player down, Chelsea still defend, Chelsea are just looking for a scapegoat.

Also last minute goals from Frank Lampard time and time again? Justice has been done.

EDIT - Also, what about the Penalty turned down for Barcelona in the first leg when Henry was pulled down?

This week's events have proved that the case for video technology in big games is now unanswerable.

But Chelsea have had their share of favourable refereeing decisions over the years, especially while the poison dwarf ruled the roost there.

Sometimes, what goes around, comes around.

I also think that the FA need to look at the behaviour of John Terry and Frank Lampard last night. The "Respect" campaign seems to have been laid to rest.

Whinge whinge whinge, and that's just Leicester fans!! lol Ludicrous.

The ref obviously called everything as he saw it, wrongly on a lot of counts but it went both ways - it was never a red card for Abidal and I feel for him missing the final.

The bottom line is that a below-strength Barca dominated possession and managed to keep within one goal all match, knowing that with their attacking talent they would create at least one golden chance. It was just a matter of whether they took it or not and I think it's fitting that the best player on the pitch spanked it in (absolutely brilliant goal - imagine the wankathon if Lampard had scored that).

Over the moon, they deserve it so much for playing football the way it should be played and allying a huge amount of spirit and drive to their great technical ability. Fantastic.

There we go. I love Iniesta. Love him. I loved him before last night and now I love him even more.

Will be very interesting to see what Pep does.

He's played Puyol at left-back an awful lot this season due to Abidal's long-term injury even when Sylvinho has been fit and seems to opt for anyone above Caceres.

Still, with no other real options at right-back I think it's probably going to be:

Sylvinho - Yaya Toure - Pique - Puyol

Got to say, I thought Yaya Toure was absolutely tremendous tonight, particularly second half, in the way he stood up to Drogba and Anelka in an unfamiliar position. I thought Barca missed him from the midfield though, Keita and Busquets are just not in the same class. Back to a full strength front five for the final though hopefully.

That's because Caceres is a bag of knackers

Yeah because the Italian ref from yesterday was much better...

Just to exacerbate this point: Anders Frisk, Terje Hauge, Michel Lubos, Claus Bo Larsen, Kim Milton Nielsen, Frank de Bleeckere. All top referees from the so-called inferior leagues over the past few years...

Nathko... I may of had something about hating United in my status and I do because I like Liverpool but I would much prefer United to win the Champions League than a Spanish team, Italian team or a German team. If it was Arsenal in the Final against Barca I would want Arsenal to win.

Last night I really wanted Chelsea to go through so they could try and get some revenge against United for last years Final but unfortunetly that wasnt the case. I dont think anybody can disagree and say Chelsea didnt deserve to go through after the two legs, as C-Man said I think Barca had three clear cut chances over 186 minutes of football, Eto'o's chance, Bojan's header and the goal which wasnt really a chance because that was a super peice of magic from Iniesta. Who I think is wasted in Spain.

About the Messi thing, you know I dont like him and last night said 'Tonight is the night for Messi to prove me wrong, in the second biggest club game in the world' or something along them lines. Unfortunetly I dont think Messi proved anything to me but he probably did to the people who watch him alot. I think he ripped Ashley Cole apart once last night and his final product was pretty poor.

Yet people are saying Ronaldo has now only done it once in the big games? Yes Tuesday night was one of his best games, scoring two and setting up Park's goal but this is the same player who scored United's goal in Moscow a Champions League Final, his goal against Arsenal last season at the Emirates, his performance in their win over Liverpool at Old Trafford in a 3-1 win was awesome. I just think for people to say Ronaldo isnt a big player is wrong and sometimes with Messi, even I know he has scored big goals in Spain against Madrid and Valencia.

This season Ronaldo has scored 27 goals and he didnt play the first few months of the season!

All I can say is Player of the Year will be close. :D

I don't care the fact that some of you hate Barcelona and most European clubs I just can't wait to see Leicester up against one of the big four, some of you won't know which shirt to wear.

lol

That's not true though, mate. I don't hate Barcelona as such. I think they are a great team to watch with some sublime individuals. I just really wanted Chelsea to win the CL. Despite what I said last night, I'll probably still cheer on Barca against Manure. We can't have Manure winning this again and all their glory hunting fanboys come out of the woodwork. :)

I know I showed a bit too much passion for a team I don't even support last night but I could feel the frustration and injustice they were feeling lol

Makes no sense at all. You hate United but you want them to win the CL? I say no more. Your just a top 4 bum boy and we all know it. I thought I was bad with Barcelona, but at least I have a fair opinion on the majority of European leagues. Your mindset is "English" and that's all. Hence why I say your a puppet to Sky because you really are.

So how long do we reckon until this ref gets death threats then? My guess is tomorrow morning..

SSN say's he has received some already and Norwegian authorities are investigating.
