Finnegan Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Aye the shots argument is a bit braindead as far as I'm concerned. Firstly because Chelsea hardly created a bzillion opportunities and secondly because what are you expecting when Chelsea sit back and defend for 180 minutes? However good Barcelona are (and they're very, VERY good) the best teams in the world aren't exactly going to hammer a well organized and disciplined Chelsea side defending for all that time. Being well structured and rigid doesn't make you a fantastic side that deserves to win, it just means you won't concede a lot of goals. That isn't footballing brilliance it's straight out of the Gary Megson Soccer School. I have no problems with defensive football. Hiddink's a clever man, he looks at the two teams and he recognizes his best shot is to use his superior defense and go for it - it's a perfectly legitimate way of winning a football game so fair play to him. But you can't have complaints when relying on only scoring one goal backfires against one of the best attacking forces in football (even though they were under strength!!) Anyone who consistently watches both the Premiership and the European leagues (as opposed to just spouting off uninformed shit because they think they know everything) on the TV will KNOW that Barcelona have been consistently incredible this season and by far are the superior side - Chelsea have had an indifferent year and on the merit of the two squads I'm neither surprised or disappointed to see Barca in the final. I tell you what, mind, against Barca's depleted and inexperienced defence last night I think we'd have seen a much different result if Chelsea had had the bottle to play the 4-4-2 they did at the weekend and have both Anelka and Drogba attacking that back line. No joke. Then I'd have thought they deserved to win. ** Oh... and lastly, can we please get over this Messi being rubbish thing? He was consistently trying to get the ball and work it for 180 minutes. His end product wasn't great at Camp Nou but besides that he looked by far and away one of the best performers in the tie. All of you expecting some kind of samba master class are clearly naive - what are you expecting the boy to do against two solid banks of Chelsea defenders, well organzied, focused and disciplined? No individual in the Chelsea back-line outshone him, least of all Ashley Cole. The boy is clearly a major talent - as is Christiano Ronaldo - but neither of them are going to single handedly break down a defensive display like that, that's why you've got ten other team mates. Grow up.
Head Honcho Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Awful decision yes, but surely they cant overturn it. Would just make a mockery of themselves if they do Well that's not exactly anything new! Didn't they do that when they allowed Liverpool to compete in the Champions League without qualifying?
Corky Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Well that's not exactly anything new!Didn't they do that when they allowed Liverpool to compete in the Champions League without qualifying? To be fair they had just won it. Slightly odd if the holders can't defend their trophy.
Darkzzz_ Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Couldn't have worded it any better myself Finners. That's what annoys me the most, the English brigade just repeat what they here from Sky/ITV. Andy Gray last night said "Dani Alves is a great crosser of the ball" La Liga has shown he is not at all and therefore shows how much Andy Gray watches La Liga. I dunno.....
Head Honcho Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 To be fair they had just won it.Slightly odd if the holders can't defend their trophy. ...........but it goes to show that the rules can be broken or amended when and if they feel like it.
welck12 Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 ...........but it goes to show that the rules can be broken or amended when and if they feel like it. But that rule change wasent going to affect how the rest of the tournement played out. They realised there could have been a problem if lpool won and amended it; it didnt affect the current tournement. Deciding now to change the rules will effect this years result. If fletcher is allowed back in then barca will argue the same should be made for Abidal. I know its not the same situation (fletcher not fouling him and all) but barca would appeal just as much if fletchers is over-turned. Its definatly a stupid rule that needs changing (like many others) but they should wait until the end of the season and change it then is all i'm saying
Sparky Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Chelsea fans moaning like fook about penelty decisions Two words ERLAND FOOKING JOHNSON (well thats 3 but you get my drift)
Finnegan Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Chelsea fans moaning like fook about penelty decisionsTwo words ERLAND FOOKING JOHNSON (well thats 3 but you get my drift) A lot of these Chelsea loving lads were probably too young to share poor Spencer Prior's pain back then! Amazing to think that was about twelve years ago.
Darkzzz_ Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Chelsea fans moaning like fook about penelty decisionsTwo words ERLAND FOOKING JOHNSON (well thats 3 but you get my drift) Will never forget that or the Chelsea supporters amongst us.... I was left in tears that day.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Aye, that lad in your sig / ava is a real hero of English football. Never been so angry in my life. It was chairs flung across the room time. Then I had a chicken shish and calmed down.
Finnegan Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Never been so angry in my life.It was chairs flung across the room time. Then I had a chicken shish and calmed down. To be fair, mind, stamping on someone's cock is a blatant red card offence.

Koke Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 I don't understand. At the end of the day, some will cheer for Chelsea, other will cheer for Barcelona. It's part of a neutral game. Ironically of course, you will never stay neutral, you will always lean towards one team. I remember when Erland Johnson dived 12 years ago, am I supposed to have some sort of grudge against Chelsea for that?
Koke Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 is this still going. What else you gonna do on a Thursday night.

Absolutley not , my example was aimed at a few plastic never been to the Bridge Chelsea supporters who were moaning like fook this morning. I had no real preference who won last night just wanted a decent game . Football is so great because of different opinions , i think Barca are a good side but i dont buy in to them being that attractive , yeah they keep possession brilliantly but that is not the be all end all , what they should be given praise for is hanging in there with 10 men and a never say die attitude that got them the equaliser and got them to the final. More importantly , why is Iniesta who is living in Spain so fooking white ??

Fair dos More importantly , why is Iniesta who is living in Spain so fooking white ?? For someone who has lived in Spain all his life, he is very white. In fact he is too white, if such term exist.
lildave3 Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Doesn't Iniesta have some sort of thing that makes him pale? I don't want to say disease or illness because I can't remember what it is. Just remember reading something in FourFourTwo about him, that's the reason he's so pale and quite small. I think anyway.
Katy Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Its Uefa tho they are very anti english. We'll see. That David Pleat animation is brilliantly spot on. Love it.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 For someone who has lived in Spain all his life, he is very white. In fact he is too white, if such term exist. That Sir, is a racist slur!
dandannieldanok Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 Where do they get these refs from!?! Ballack's hounding of the ref after his penalty claim is hilarious.
BoneDog Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 "Is it just me or is it cos he's a Norweigan ref and he doesn't want an English team to win, daaagh, makes sense"! "Barcelona are a bunch of cheatin w---ers". HA, yeah cos Chelsea aint! "They are cheats cos they pull on shirts"! Classic rant
MC Prussian Posted 8 May 2009 Posted 8 May 2009 What a sissy. Get over it. What goes around, comes around. And putting that piece of garbage on YouTube. Notice the sudden drop in tone and volume once he mentions the Barcelona fans.
