One Half Wonder Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 there's nothing to decide, Clemence is the club captain so if he's fit and playing it will be him I'm never sure what 'club captain' means? I'm sure not kicking a ball for more than 12 months definately makes you anything but the club captain. I can't see him even playing for us again. A massive injury such as that to keep him out for a year to come back, a year older at 31yrs - hmmm, there's probably better options around.

Alternatively the long lay off may elongate his career and his appitite for the game may well be truly rekindled. I hope he comes back stonger and better than ever because that could only be good for LCFC. He is under contract anyway so we should give him a chance to prove himself. I remember a thread saying how poor Andy King was earlier in the season.....
teblin Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Skipper Clemence started 32 games in 2007/2008 and we were relegated at the end. Great advert that. This is true, but i'm not sure he was fit from about november. Kept being rushed back. He started the season fairly well. I still think he has quality about him if he is fully fit, which remains to be seen. 31 isn't overly old.
Manderic's pants Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 He'll probably stay as club captain but not make it into the team, so Oakley keeps his acting captain position on the field.
Munzie Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Aside from the initial captain debate, I'm all for giving Clemence another chance. He did occassionally show some glimpes of a quality playmaker and put him some decent performances. Like most last season his appearences were erratic to say the least. Others have proved that they are capable of playing well within our team, let's give him the same opportunity. He's got a hell of a lot of work to do pre-season if he is to break into our central midfield pairing. I can see him starting alongside King with Oakley pushed out to the right (subject to new signings).
dandannieldanok Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Wouldn't have Oakley nor Clemence as captain, neither have shown enough leadership qualities imo. I'm not trying to deny Oakley hasn't had a good season, far from it, but I don't see him as a captain and didn't really see him motivate much when we were struggling. It might come to down to actually having to go out and buy a player capable of being captain because I can't see many candidates in our current squad. I would say Hobbs perhaps a future captain but it would be a weighty responsibility to hand it him next season.

I can see him starting alongside King with Oakley pushed out to the right (subject to new signings). As long as he doesn't push King out of the team, I'm not bothered. Kingy's done more than enough this season to be given the best chance of being a regular next season.
Ric Flair Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 I believe Clemence shouldn't be written off at Leicester, whether he should be captain is another matter. Both he and Oakley will be needed next season. King is still learning and requires a step up to match the impact he's had this season and the likes of Clemence will be a big help to King. Thracian is right though, we do need another young midfielder in the mould of Davies too. 2 young central midfielders and 2 experienced players would be ideal.
ousefox Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Oakley has captained a team that has won the league. Clemence captained a team that ended up relegated. It's not a hard choice.
maddog Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 I can't even see Clemence playing at all. The way Berner performed this season means theres no way he will be shunted out of the side. Clemence was dog shit last season and i would love it if he left. So id vote Oakley, but would prefer Tunchev or Berner or even Howard.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 I personally think that Brown would be a better choice than both of them. The problem is though he may not be first choice next season. I imagine if he gives out a bollocking then it would be damaging to your health to ignore him.
Joe. Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 there's nothing to decide, Clemence is the club captain so if he's fit and playing it will be him So the player who's just captained the side to the League One title is going to be ditched in favour of a player who played no part of last season and isn't even guaranteed a starting place?
Jimmy Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 So the player who's just captained the side to the League One title is going to be ditched in favour of a player who played no part of last season and isn't even guaranteed a starting place? its not a question of ditching anyone, Oakley has been the stand in captain, he would of known this, hell he made his debut with Clemence as captain so its hardly going to be a shock, plus I doubt the armband is of vital importance to Matt Oakley

An entire season where we were more successful than Clemence's season in charge. An entire season when Clemence has been injured.

Dr The Singh Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 I'm just glad there's only 1 Captain Bhangre Da, this is the only captaincy that matters:
lavrentis Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 I'm just glad there's only 1 Captain Bhangre Da, this is the only captaincy that matters: What on earth is that?
Dr The Singh Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 What on earth is that? That's Daljit Mattu, the Captain of Bhangra and now Leicester City FC!!!!!!
