Matt Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Some of you lot need to learn how to take a joke. Also there is the fact that he is quite correct Leicester is hardly somewhere you'd want to spend two weeks. Although if he wants to see a real shit hole he should take a trip down the M69. I see nothing wrong with Leicester tbh, think it's really nice City, I'm not from Leicester and only go to the City and the Walkers so maybe the residential areas around the City ain't to good, but yeah if they want to go to see somewhere worse or want to moan about somewhere worse they should go Coventry as a whole is one big slum, It's a proper shithole and i'm not just saying that because I dislike Coventry, I'm saying it because it's the truth.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Are Leicestershire playing a friendly against the Aussies then if they are knocked out early?
Corky Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Are Australia playing a friendly against the Aussies then if they are knocked out early?
Guest Bilo Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 There's probably more culture in Leicester than the whole of Australia put together. That said who really gives a shit what Ponting says. There's more culture in a fooking yoghurt than there is in Australia.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Haha Australia vs the Aussies i'm a tit. Meant Leicestershire.
Edmund Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 It's obvious that they will be staying at Loughborough not Leicester for the sports facilities. Im guessing he said Leicester as it is in Leicestershire and the main city. This is what im guessing anyway.
Finnegan Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 I see nothing wrong with Leicester tbh, think it's really nice City, I'm not from Leicester and only go to the City and the Walkers so maybe the residential areas around the City ain't to good, but yeah if they want to go to see somewhere worse or want to moan about somewhere worse they should go Coventry as a whole is one big slum, It's a proper shithole and i'm not just saying that because I dislike Coventry, I'm saying it because it's the truth. Having travelled about the country a bit I don't think Leicester's that great. It's not bad, I don't think it's a complete dive but it isn't brilliant. That said, even if Ponting was taking a pop at Leicester (and I think he was A. probably joking and B. not necessarily with any knowledge of the City) I imagine it wasn't because of whether or not the place was a dump. More along the lines of there being fuck all to do here. Sorry but if you're picking a city to have a night out in then Leicester's going to be miiiiiiiles down the list.
WardyisPukka Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Welcome To Leicester Ricky , **** , no the aussies arent playing leicestershire at all , plus the facilities at Loughborough are owned by the ECB , I pretty sure they wudnt let the aussies use them for two weeks surely not
Fosse Boy Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Welcome To Leicester Ricky , **** , :welcome:
purpleronnie Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Blimey people are really taking this seriously aren't they. Sense of humour anyone?
CosbehFox Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Having travelled about the country a bit I don't think Leicester's that great. It's not bad, I don't think it's a complete dive but it isn't brilliant. After visiting a few places after the past couple of season, Leicester ain't that bad either.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 So why are the coming here, I want answers...and I want them now. Someone had better come up with some cold hard facts on why and they better start speaking... Capiche?
Ultra Posted 8 June 2009 Author Posted 8 June 2009 I don't think Ponting meant to have a pop at us. But that's the way it'll be interpreted in towns hostile to us. Anyway, now that Sri Lanka have knocked them out of the Twenty20, Ponting and his bunch will now have plenty of time to explore our delights! lol
Kilworthfox Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 From the BBCI don't understand why he's so worried. Leicester has often very welcoming to Aussie cricketers, as Shane Warne will confirm.. And there are plenty of places to have a beer - so ample opportunities for Ponting and his pals to enjoy rest and relaxation. of all the places in the world... why would you want to spend 2 weeks in Leicester? As much as we love Leicester, the weather aint exactly Marbella is it, n the birds are not up to the standards of Miami or have I missed somethin?
Stevosevic Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 of all the places in the world... why would you want to spend 2 weeks in Leicester? As much as we love Leicester, the weather aint exactly Marbella is it, n the birds are not up to the standards of Miami or have I missed somethin? They certainly are not. Let's be honest, Leicester would be way down on peoples list to stay/live.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 Right guys - time to get a band together, find out where the buggers are staying and stage 14, six hour worth free rock concerts in the near vacinity. The police will be ok with it as soon as you explain what you're doing! It's also worth changing the flight path of all flights from the east-midlands to pass their hotel at a very low trajectory.
Maybes Posted 8 June 2009 Posted 8 June 2009 I took the quote as it wouldn't be good to get knocked out. Never the less quite funny This.

Matt Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Just watching SSN and he's said it again, the interviewer said "If its any consolation you'll have 2 weeks extra to prepare for the Ashes" Ponting's reply "No consolation, We're in Leicester for a couple of weeks".

Unlucky Ricky . I recommend the Space Centre.
Stewarmy Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Andrew Symonds being sent home is the worst thing that could have happened! Imagine all the money the pubs and clubs would have made........
AyewJoking Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Home town pride aside, Leicester is a bit of a shithole.

Samilktray Posted 9 June 2009 Posted 9 June 2009 Sydney has the Opera House, Leicester has the Curve.
