Flynny Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 He doesn't look right here. Never seen him play so badly.
dandannieldanok Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Murray was clearly very nervous in that first set, was taken aback by Wawrinka's flying start. Thankfully he's battled through with grit and determination and now the class is showing.
Simi Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Murray seems really unsettled by the conditions, will only improve the other guys backhand as the ball will skid up off the surface more. Intriguing match, Murray has a lot to do.
Samilktray Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Hewitt looked good earlier despite droppin sets early on too.
maddog Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Hewitt looked good earlier despite droppin sets early on too. He was superb, was hitting the ball so well at queens, very unlucky to lose to Roddick, Roddick cheated him a bit though and got all the luck. Nice to see an exciting Murray match here, his last round was so boring, Trickoi or whatever his name was couldn't get a ball in hardly. Nice to see Ferrero doing well aswell, Murray will play him if he wins this and Murray thrashed Ferrero at queens.
Simi Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Anyone see Jamie Murray just get knocked back by his Mrs?!

Fox You Forest Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Great match this, he's making Murray work hard for everything.
davieG Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Great match this, he's making Murray work hard for everything. Murray's struggling more than he should because his serving is diabolical.
Samilktray Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Some of Murrays returns have been superb, just not been consistent enough so far.
Benji Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 I can't believe a player as powerful and accurate as Murrary goes through so many stages of hacking. He can blow any player off the court when he attacks the ball and the accuracy of his attacking shots are reminiscent of Federer at his best. But players like Federer and Nadal will punish him if he hits this amount of short balls in a match. He's a great defensive player, but half the time he's not even on the defence. Seems utterly crazy but hey he's there I'm not
JoeyB Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 What a game this was tonight! fooking amazing! Played Andy
Benji Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 thank god! good grinding victory that how good is that roof? you'd have thought it was 3pm!
purpleronnie Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Brilliant great to see we don't have a choker! But he'll have to raise his game if he wants to progress. He's still british!!!!
davieG Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Good games in terms of who's going to win it but technically it was piss poor with so many poor services and unforced errors.
Samilktray Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Great game, gotta brilliant chance of winning it now.
purpleronnie Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 I just hope that hasnt taken too much out of him.
martyn Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Wawrinka was sensational, never knew he had that type of performance in him. Murray demonstrating all the good things he's added to his game in that 5th set, the increased fitness and mental toughness to get through against an inspired opponent. The serve has to fire beter than that for him to have a chance of winning the title though, it bizarrely lacked the bite that he showed in the first week.
Anish Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Good games in terms of who's going to win it but technically it was piss poor with so many poor services and unforced errors. Sorry but I completely disagree. Wawrinka's serve was excellent throughout and the number of double faults were few and far between - you could count them on your hand. Murray isn't renowned for having a great serve so you can hardly slate him for his service games when he still held most of them. Murray is a superb defender and his service returns are out of this world - he made Wawrinka's serve look ordinary but it clearly wasn't. Technically you won't see a much better returner in the game. And on the issue of being technically poor, Murray played some scintillating tennis with his forehead winners on the run, top spin lobs, slices and and drop shots. To say that the game was technically poor is an outrageous remark. Murray and Wawrinka clearly aren't as good as Federer but that was by far the most exciting match at Wimbledon and I'd love to see you prove your argument re the number of unforced errors given that it was a marathon 5 set match.
Bert Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 I seen the last bit of the 4th and 5th set. You could tell that they were both drained. Big credit to Murray, he's adding tiny bits to his game as he goes along, tonight it was grinding out a result under immense pressure. The tournament begins....
Ultra Posted 29 June 2009 Posted 29 June 2009 Murray needed a test like that at some stage. Many other players in a similar position would have been found wanting, but he kept going and took enough chances to get the job done. Now he needs to raise his game and regain his form to reach the final.
FilboFox Posted 30 June 2009 Posted 30 June 2009 I'm in a good mood so I'll be nice... well played to Murray, stuck at it when he could se easily have lost out right at the end. Wawrinka was very good, possibly some of the best tennis I've seen him play but at times looked like he was struggling with something and even looked part way through the 3rd set like he'd given up which really annoyed me... he came back though which was good. Murray didn't look too great today... his serve was right off unlike in his first 3 matches and there didn't seem to be as many winners flying off the racquet, some beauts but not as many... possibly because Wawrinka was playing better or perhaps it was the pressure? Both seemed to be playing quite defensive tennis... for long periods of rallies, nobody seemed to want to make the breakthrough... most of the time it ended in a winner from Murray or a mistake from Stan but overall, the match was pretty good for excitement levels... as a match, looking at how well both players played overall, it wasn't as good a match as it possibly could have been in terms of quality... Murray I'm sure could have played better and possibly Wawrinka at times. Come on Juan Carlos!
