General Smuts Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 Starts next Monday (15th) with England in the group of death. If they get out of the group i think we've got a great chance. Group B: England Finland Germany Spain England Squad: Goalkeepers Joe Hart Joseph Lewis Scott Loach Defenders Martin Cranie Michael Mancienne Nedum Onuoha Micah Richards Jack Rodwell Richard Stearman Andrew Taylor James Tomkins Midfielders Lee Cattermole Andrew Driver Craig Gardner Kieran Gibbs Adam Johnson James Milner Fabrice Muamba Mark Noble Daniel Rose Forwards Gabriel Agbonlahor Fraizer Campbell Theo Walcott
lildave3 Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 It's actually a pretty good squad, plenty of pace up front.
Koke Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 With only 3 forwards? And Walcott is used more as a winger these days anyway.
General Smuts Posted 10 June 2009 Author Posted 10 June 2009 Shocked to see Holland didn't qualify after they've won the previous 2 years.
Uncle Albert Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 Gibbs classed as a midfielder? I think we will get out of the group, a win against Finland and a draw against one of the other two will see us through. Main problem will be if one of the striker's picks up an injury whilst the competition is going on, Walcott already seems knackered after the season and God help us if Agobonlarhor get's injured. Don't watch the Under 21's on a regular basis, what formation does Pearce tend to go for? Can see us getting far if we can keep the front three injury free.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 Thought Tomkins, Johnson, Noble and Rodwell all looked a cut above the rest the other night
Bakey Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 It appears a quite challenging grouup TBH. with the liks of Spain and Germany.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 10 June 2009 Posted 10 June 2009 Italy, Spain, and Germany all have some cracking players. Got a feeling Giovinco will have a quality tournament.
General Smuts Posted 11 June 2009 Author Posted 11 June 2009 Italy, Spain, and Germany all have some cracking players.Got a feeling Giovinco will have a quality tournament. Italy will walk through the group stages. Germany's squad doesn't look as quality as expexted tbh.

MarkDeVries Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Ozil, Hummels, Aogo, they've got some decent decent players in there, although I do agree. Kroos?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 June 2009 Posted 11 June 2009 Kroos? Was going to put Kroos but was unsure about whether or not he'd been selected.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 England squad looks good 7 or 8 real quality players. 3 forwards make you wonder what formation will be played cos it would be a shame if they decided to have wide payers and Abonglahor on his own would be disatorous. How many u21 caps has Milner had seems like his been in the u21's for 10 years.
CosbehFox Posted 12 June 2009 Posted 12 June 2009 Milner is the most capped U21s player...he broke through at same time as Rooney so I'd hazard a guess around the 50 mark. I understand Fabian Delph didn't get picked because Andy King's Welsh Cap made him ineligible for the squad as he still can't get out of his pocket.
General Smuts Posted 12 June 2009 Author Posted 12 June 2009 Ozil, Hummels, Aogo, they've got some decent decent players in there, although I do agree. I only picked Markin out of thier squad to be honest.
Father Ted Posted 13 June 2009 Posted 13 June 2009 Serbia and Italy are the only 2 teams to qualify for 3 tournaments in a row. Serbia will be the team to watch. Some quality players: Ivan Obradovic, who imo one day will be the best left-back in the world, Gojko Kacar, a quality bossing midfielder with good experience with Hertha Berlin, Zoran Tosic who will be a massive star at Manure and Miralem Sulejmani who holds the transfer record within the Dutch League and plays for Ajax. Although, we are missing Rajkovic, a quality centre-half after spitting at a Ref at the Olympics.
Ultra Posted 15 June 2009 Posted 15 June 2009 Can understand now why Pearce was so desperate to have Walcott in the squad. We'll be fighting it out with germany for second spot in the group, behind Spain.

I can't not support them after their actions at the Olympics and the last U21 Euro Championships where frankly their attitude to the English black players was a disgrace.
General Smuts Posted 15 June 2009 Author Posted 15 June 2009 Kicks off tonight and i shall be down the pub with a pint watching it.
