Carl the Llama Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 It's a lot like F1 for me - you know you should be appalled at its existence but it's just so hard to stop watching.
separator Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Whatever happened to the guy who was with Clarkson & Hammond in series 1 of the 're-launched' Top Gear, he was replaced by James May in series 2. Â Edit : His name was Jason Dawe, bet he's gutted considering how big the show became.
Jimothy Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Hate the programme, hate the guy. Happy for it to be ditched or simply change the presenters. Don't watch it then, why spoil others enjoyment? I hate Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Eastenders etc but I don't call for them to be removed from the schedules. And if you'd ever actually watched it to get an opinion on whether you like it or not, you'd know it wouldn't work with different presenters. With different presenters it'd just be 5th Gear, and there's a reason why one show pulls in nearly 7m viewers and the other has ended up on some obscure satellite channel.

Right.  The consumer advice that 5th gear provides is good and all, but once you've got a car that's you sorted for the next couple of years, you couldn't care less about consumer advice in that time and that's why Top Gear prevailed - we don't watch it to find out what the best 4-door saloon for around £25k is. we watch it for the comedy value of 3 middle aged idiots messing around with cars.
MooseBreath Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Hate the programme, hate the guy. Happy for it to be ditched or simply change the presenters. Not really aimed at grandmothers though is it.

As stupid as saying that a football team isn't a football team with different players. It'd still work just differently.  But tbh I don't care whether it's on or not. There are a million TV programmes that I don't watch.  Shame that people are happy to support such a racist violent egoist in the modern day though.
Guest Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Not really aimed at grandmothers though is it. Â Is it aimed at sexually perverted racists? I guess so being as you like it. It's a neanderthal programme.
MooseBreath Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Is it aimed at sexually perverted racists? I guess so being as you like it. It's a neanderthal programme. Yes the neanderthals were well into their cars.

Is it aimed at sexually perverted racists? I guess so being as you like it. It's a neanderthal programme.  300 Million people watch it, including me. How dare you judge us because we enjoy watching a TV show?
ScouseFox Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 I don't watch it.  and that should end your involvement in this discussion. if you don't watch it why on earth do you give the smallest fvck as to who presents it, when it's on, what happens on it and who else watches it? just put countryfile on the other channel and chill.   i watch it from time to time, like if i'm flicking through and it's on i'll watch, but won't watch it religiously. it's alright. why anyone gets so wound up over anything like this is beyond me, some people are just well weird i guess.Â
MooseBreath Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 To be fair the BBC do pick some good presenting teams, top gear itself, MOTD, Mock the Week etc. I think if they bring in new presenters with the same budget it could still be a decent show.
bovril Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015  300 Million people watch it, including me. How dare you judge us because we enjoy watching a TV show?  Fair point but we all judge people on what they watch, read, listen to. I find it the show quite entertaining at times but if I meet someone who's a huge fan I reserve the right to think he's probably a bit of a bore.
Jimothy Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 I don't watch it. As stupid as saying that a football team isn't a football team with different players. It'd still work just differently. Well using your football team example, then yeah it's the same as replacing Fergusson, Vidic, and Carrick (injured, I know he didn't leave) with Moyes, Smalling and Fellieni. Man Utd still existing, but it was shit. Going from winning the league to midtable. Replace the current Chelsea team with the current Leicester team it's still be a football team, but it wouldn't be top of the league. So it's not really stupid at all, in fact it's pretty stupid of you to liken it to a football team, because it proves my point. Clarkson, Hammond and May are what make Top Gear a success and not a run of the mill car show, and run of the mill cat shows aren't successful anymore, look at 5th Gear. Its not like replacing Lineker on MOTD, or Dimbleby on QT, where the content of the show is the big seller, these three are the content of the show, lose them you lose the whole ethos of the show.

That's what we all do every week. Get over yourself.   and that should end your involvement in this discussion. if you don't watch it why on earth do you give the smallest fvck as to who presents it, when it's on, what happens on it and who else watches it? just put countryfile on the other channel and chill.   i watch it from time to time, like if i'm flicking through and it's on i'll watch, but won't watch it religiously. it's alright. why anyone gets so wound up over anything like this is beyond me, some people are just well weird i guess.  I don't GAF who else watches it. I just like making comments and giving pointless opinions. If not I wouldn't frequent forums.  To be fair the BBC do pick some good presenting teams, top gear itself, MOTD, Mock the Week etc. I think if they bring in new presenters with the same budget it could still be a decent show.  For once I have to agree with you - but don't get excited, I still detest everything you exist for.    Right now let's find another pointless thread to give my opinion on.
Rincewind Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 i have watched the special ones where they take cars across a continent. It seems that Clarkson uses the others as stooges and wants to be the one getting the praise. i prefer may when he does science programmes anyway. I suppose it works because he belittles others and secretly viewers want to see him get his comeuppance..
Jon the Hat Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 hahaha. That pretty much sums up the average top Gear viewer in my opinion. Thanks.  I'd be surprised if you were any less French than I am. How many generations of your family were born and brought up in Leicester?   Your take is similar to mine. Clarkson is a bully who likes to belittle others. I guess it says a lot about our society when he is seen as such a "hero" by so many.  Who said he is a hero? He is a fairly entertaining bloke on the telly.
Guest Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Who said he is a hero? He is a fairly entertaining bloke on the telly.  So is Dieudonne.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 Adrian Chiles for me  Only if he does his items from the middle of the track whilst The Stig is on a test lap.
Alexikokopops Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 and that should end your involvement in this discussion. if you don't watch it why on earth do you give the smallest fvck as to who presents it, when it's on, what happens on it and who else watches it? just put countryfile on the other channel and chill. Countryfile hasn't been the same since they moved it to the evening. It was the perfect way to ease your hungover self into Sunday. Can't face real life, just bring me farm animals and John Craven talking about Victorian leather tanning techniques.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 So is Dieudonne. Â Phillip II (France) is on telly? Â Doesn't he smell a bit? Â Â Â Â Â (I had to google it and that's what came up.)
Guest Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015 The presenter gave an expletive-filled description of BBC bosses, adding Top Gear had been "a great show" but it had been ruined by the corporation.  How has it been ruined by the BBC when it is sooooo successful?

Trav Le Bleu Posted 20 March 2015 Posted 20 March 2015  Dieudonne  Well he is annoying for...  a) having a surname for a first name (pot/kettle/black statement there)  and  b) having a repeated surname - what's the point in that?  I know nothing about him other than his name and already he's annoying me!

i was out my arse last sunday and watched great british canal journeys, boy was it good. who needs top gear.Â
