suffolk fox Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Quote from Jimbo It's not simple to get round. The fact is that he's trouble. It's not so much that I want a player to want to play for Leicester City, that's naive. But I want him to want to play football, to enjoy it. He had the chance to better himself at Sheff Utd and he turned it down, what does that tell you about the bloke? I would say he had the chance with us, but at the moment, realistically we are an unknown quantity and our spell in league 1 has meant our reputation has taken a hit. It's not that I like Sheff Utd just using them as a great example. They just missed out on promotion last season and would be a good bet to better themselves this year, but he turned them down because he thinks he's worth more than he is. It's not just a money issue, it's about him realising he's not as good as he thinks he is and actually playing football because he wants to not playing for the clun that offers him the most money. He'd rather play at Stoke and collecting his 20k knowing there's a good chance he'll be back in the Championship next season than play at Sheff Utd and being paid 12k a week a fight for a place in the premiership. And lets face it there's probably more chance of Sheff Utd being in the premiership the season after this one than there is of Stoke being there THIS IS SPOT ON!!! TOP POST.
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 We need to stop messing about and either conclude this deal and get on with it, or look elsewhere. It seems as soon as we are linked with someone else though, they end up going elsewhere. The fact that this guy is on a free and still looking for a club does make me wonder why he hasn't been snapped up yet. Whatever, if something is not done quick, he'll be way off the pace and fitness level required for August 8. We're still waiting for this 'impact signing' and if it don't happen, we make up the numbers this season rather than making an impact. We are one or two players away from being top ten and a promotion push imo. I'd like us to ruffle a few feathers so to speak, but it won't happen at this rate. IMO i dont think you going to see this "impact signing" i was working in swindon recently and a couple of their fans were saying that NP did not do enough to convince SC city was the right club for him i am not sure that NP has the persuasive powers that top managers have to sell the club to potenial signings. If the loanee ranager thinks he going to get young/hungery up and coming youngsters on the cheap he should forget it £1mil is peanuts in football today.

flanimal Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Jimbo has nailed it, totally nailed it. Lita coming in and getting paid twice what anyone else gets paid just for being a decent player three years ago and being greedy would destroy the team spirit. It's not just about doing a job, there's a lot to consider. If Pearson brings him in, I'll cheer for Lita 'cause I respect Pearson's judgement, but based on what I and other people know, he seems like a waste of time.

Like you say it would damage morale of the team which NP must know. I will back NP with who ever he signs.
flanimal Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Does anyone know any Reading fans, and what they feel about Lita?
Blue Foxes Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Does anyone know any Reading fans, and what they feel about Lita? My cousin lives in the Reading area but is a Leicester fan although he has gone to a few Reading games. He doesn't want us to sign him because of his attitude. But he didn't say anything about his football.
CosbehFox Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 What the majority of you are saying is laughable. Let's do some role play. You get laid off from your job and had a decent record in job. Then lots of clubs offer you a job; some multi-national and some good national companies. You consider a number of factors within the offer. A high wage would cushion having to move away from your current home, you listen to managers advice plus ambitions and take it on board. You know that the role at the multi-national is probably lesser than your current job but at higher wage but it has the massive impact that you're more like to get spotted by one of the real big boys of your trade. It's not greedy, it's the commonsense of man. As for knocking back Sheff Utd, as he's out of contract....he's not really. He probably has nine or ten contract offers and he's playing the clubs off given that a lot of clubs are currently requiring strikers.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 I live close to Reading, and have seen the guy play a couple of times. Not really fair to judge him on that basis, but I would say in those games he was adequate, but not outstanding. Didn't score either.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 He is a good player as it showed when he was at Norwich and scored some goals in a crap team. I just feek his wage demands are too high for a team like us.
CosbehFox Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 I just feek his wage demands are too high for a team like us. How did you come this assumption? Are you Lee Hoos or Lita's agent. No-one on here knows his wage demands or what our budget is.
C-man Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 One thing I would say though is that if we did sign him, it would have to be assumed he'd be on at least £12k a week. I would have thought MM wouldn't want him to be sitting on the bench at that price, and in that case, who loses out? Fryatt or Howard?
Ajax Treesdown Posted 1 August 2009 Author Posted 1 August 2009 Skysports.com understands that Middlesbrough could be poised to win the chase for Leroy Lita's signature. The striker is a free agent after leaving Reading earlier in the summer and a number of clubs have been monitoring his situation. Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell recently announced he was hopeful of agreeing a deal with Lita after holding talks with his agent. However, Boro have now emerged as frontrunners after meeting with the 24-year-old's representatives over the last 24 hours. Lita is now set to undergo a medical with the North East club and an agreement could be finalised in the near future. In other Boro news, goalkeeper Brad Jones has been ruled out for around three weeks with an ankle problem. He will therefore miss the start of the new season and Danny Coyne is likely to deputise for the Championship opener against Sheffield United on Friday night.
C-man Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Not too disappointed now that we have a rough idea of his wage demands. I'm sure that we can find better value for money. In anticipation of someone asking 'Like who?', I have prepared the following statement. 'I don't know, but I don't have a wide scouting network, NP does.'
Tilley Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Oh for fuck sake. We miss out on yet another striker.
flanimal Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Not fussed. Let Boro continue to pay inflated wages to average players. In a few months, we'll probably be watching Lita struggle at Boro and realise we dodged a bullet.
Matt Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Bollocks FFS. But don't worry be patient...We'll be ok Tell ya what even if sign someone now we're gonna struggle for the first few weeks of the season I think, It's fine being patient, but I am getting worried.
flanimal Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 It's fine being patient, but I am getting worried. We got a week left, no need to panic. Plus, we have N'Guessan - he's going to tear up the division!
davieG Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 If we don't sign him he isn't the right player for us.
Maybes Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Good move for Lita. Will be playing under a good manager, getting good monies and playing for a side that could well be back in the prem this time next year.
