Guest Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 I would be happy with a mid-table finish. I don't think I, let alone the club, is prepared for life in the Premiership, and I want to be working when we do go up again!! This may be taken as negative, but I am keeping my expectations low. Our last Championship adventure brought a lot of disappointment, and as long as we don't struggle again this season, I will be happy. Anything better will be a bonus.
Webbo Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Why do people think that finishing 10-15th will put us in a better position to get promotion the following season? There will be new teams coming down from the prem with parachute payments, Nige might be poached, players could be sold, the club will be further in debt.

Who's to say that finishing in the play-offs and losing would put us in a better position?

Guest Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 It worked for Brian Little. Oh well, that's it then. Stop being realistic negative folks, if we aren't challenging for automatic promotion this season, then we might as well forget it.

Stop being realistic negative folks, if we aren't challenging for automatic promotion this season, then we might as well forget it. I never said automatic promotion (though I wouldn't rule it out completely) but there were plenty of people being realistic last season. The majority on here said we had no chance of promotion never mind winning the division. I just don't know how everybody can be so certain that mid table is the best we can hope for before a ball's even been kicked.
AyewJoking Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Just cant see us making the play-offs. No one in our team stands out as someone who is going to make a big impact this season. Hope we play well as a team and get a reputation for being tough bástards to play against.

Hope we play well as a team and get a reputation for being tough bástards to play against. I think we have what it takes, we have the experience (Neilson, Brown, Tunchev, Oakley, Wellens, Howard, Dickov) and some exciting young prospects (King, Hobbs, Morrison, Gradel, Kee, Adams, Astrit, O'Neil, Mattock, maybe even count Fryatt?) . A good team spirit is clearly evident in the squad and Nige knows what he is doing, our defence won't concede many next season, I actually think we have a better defence now than what we did when we suffered relegation. Our midfield looks strong and I think we can all look forward to seeing some clever, tidy and quick passing this upcoming season, with the additon of Wellens aswell we have some real quality in that apartment (I still expect Cleverely to return sometime in the next week). Upfront we aren't as strong as we would like to be but if our defence stays strong with our midfield chipping in a few goals aswell then we should be ok, Burnely's strikeforce only scored 20 goals combined last season. Anything can happen, but that's why we love football.

Ultra Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 One of the features which makes this league far more intriguing than the one above it is the frequency with which teams emerge from nowhere to launch a shock promotion challenge. Burnley did it last year, as did both Stoke and Hull the season before. It's possible, though unlikely, that we may be the dark horses in this campaign. But it could just as easily be one of a number of other clubs, including Derby and Forest.
iancognito Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 11-14, which is also where I'd be happy with too. As long as we don't struggle or get dragged too low, I'm happy to consolidate and push on next season.
glebe_sydneyfox Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 yep voted 11-14. It's such a competitive league and i think there are at least 6-10 teams who on paper are better. Having said that, I would NOT be disappointed with finishing 15-18 either.
Jordan Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 I'd be thrilled with a top-half finish... but I also think this year's squad is better than the '07-08 team so I don't expect a relegation dogfight.
Raj Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 If we finish 2nd bottom it will be a fcuking achievement!!!!

CosbehFox Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 15th. Next Summer, add some more quality. As silly as it sounds, I'd be a bit suspect to us going up straight the way. Think we need to build a side (teams what I've done that anyways normally hover around 12th to playoffs).
Daggers Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 Not read the other posts: There's two answers, the first based on the shit that pours from MM's mouth. That is that automatic promotion is the sole focus of this season according to his three year plan. And to judge him, should we fail to achieve that then I'd like him to go. Then there's the realistic answer, we will finish mid to lower mid-table. Will I be happy with that? Will I fuck. I bought a season ticket (OK, wife did) on the understanding that he'd properly fund the squad development this close season. He hasn't. Give me away's in Yeovil against Newcastle anyday. Maybe I'll get to enjoy them next season again.

You do realise all players wages went up after promotion and we have a lot of players on high wages from previous regimes (campbell). Also we have spent money. N'guessan, wellens, Hobbs, (Brown ) on top of making a loss last season and inevitably more players to come in. Milan Mandaric isn't a sugar daddy.
Manwell Pablo Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 Would be happy staying up, we aren't good enough to finish higher than 12th. Not enough quality.

You have piss-all chance of getting a rise out of me.
Guest Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 You lot are living in dreamland. 21st. Stay up and I'm happy. Our first eleven should just about be good enough to do this and maybe even get halfway up the league but with a woeful backup throughout the squad i'll be overjoyed if we're still up next season and able to really plan for pushing up the division over the subsequent two years.
Edmund Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 Has everyone else stopped arguing with you? You have piss-all chance of getting a rise out of me. I find it ironic that the only hostility is your reply to my valid point yet you seem to think I want to argue with you. Think about it for a second. Get over yourself not everyone has to agree with what you say its a forum its the whole point.
