Benji Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Millwall should not have had ANY tickets - simple as. Their presence provoked the trouble, even if on this occasion they were the injured party in more ways than one. There are a lot of other places which would have reacted in exactly the same way to the prospect of up to 5000 Millwall yobs descending on their turf. The problem that the hammers have is that they're on film doing the same stuff Millwall do week in week out. I hope they don't get the same kid-glove treatment - a ground closure for the next few cup ties would send a message that this type of tribalism will not be tolerated in the 21st century. So if 200 Leicester thugs went to Coventry and caused this trouble yourself and 1,300-2,000 other Leicester fans should be banned from having tickets? I guess because they're Millwall they couldn't possibly have any normal and respectable fans that could suffer

CosbehFox Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 One strange thing - one garbled report suggested that a fim about West Ham/Millwall rivalry will be released next month. Is this a re release of that 2005 turkey 'Green Street'? If it is It's a remake of The Firm.
Corky Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Well, there goes the World Cup. Violence on this scale has been very rare in the past few years. Most major footballing nations suffer from football violence, we're no different.
CosbehFox Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Violence on this scale has been very rare in the past few years. I wouldn't say it's rare. I'd say it's rare this amount of coverage has been given on it and it's rare in location of it all. In terms of actual violence bar the digusting stabbing, there wasn't a lot happen. I have little doubt that they will/would be a similar encounter at Leic-Cov this season or Wrexham-Chester or various lower league fixtures where the police are smaller on numbers. The Police at the last fixture between the two had 1,000 officers at the fixture...nowhere near that amount this time out. The stabbing took place at 8.23pm which means someone was hanging around with intent, so the Wall tickets theory is half-proven correct. Both clubs sold tickets to people with banning orders, this again is a mistake and the Police didn't have sufficient intelligence to stop it. All in all, a mess. We'll pay for it as fans and both clubs will get off relatively scot free. There were more arrests, victims of violence and fatalities at the G8 riots..... Inside the ground, West Ham's failure to control fans was a rarity and worthy of some real punishment. No doubt, that was a rarity. Plenty of rucks have happened outside the stadium in the past few years but very rare wide scale violent-intent pitch invasions. In comparison to foreign countries and other WC2018 rivals, this was a drop in the ocean in terms of hooliganism on a wide scale.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 What I love is how everyone describing it and the media are jumping to mention that Millwall were involved, when, looking and reading into it, it was mainly West Ham. Millwall have the reputation and everyone is writing it off as being them causing trouble like usual, but it wasn't! All of the photo's show West Ham fans fighting with the police. Fair play there were some scraps but these pail into insignificance next to what the 'Irons' fans were doing. I think some people are taking a very one sided view here simply because it is Millwall.
Daggers Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 Millwall should not have had ANY tickets - simple as. Another 25watt idea!
Edmund Posted 27 August 2009 Posted 27 August 2009 It's a remake of The Firm. Surely not the classic. Good thing about that film it wasn't over exaggerated like these modern hooligan films. It's getting decent reviews. Made by the same fella behind Football Factory. More of 're-imaging' than a remake.

Shrenchel Posted 28 August 2009 Posted 28 August 2009 http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20090827/tuk-k...an-6323e80.html These fooking Millwall nutters, throw them out the league. Not that cheeky old West Ham though.
Nath Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Funny how Millwall seem to be getting alot of blame about this, yet West Ham seem to be the worst culprits.

lildave3 Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Of course he's going to say thathe's not going to come out and say 'yeah i'm fackin' Millwall's top boy aint i' Yeah I dont believe that at all tbh.
Shrenchel Posted 29 August 2009 Posted 29 August 2009 Yeah I dont believe that at all tbh. Investigating officer Detective Inspector Lee Barnard of Newham Violent Crime Unit said: "This incident was not a pre-arranged act of violence between two sets of rival supporters; this was an innocent family man who was subjected to a senseless attack by people intent on causing violence. I doubt Scotland Yard would report something as fact if they thought it could be bullshit. Maybe you should move into solving crimes.
davieG Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 Apparently From Bentley's IMAGES of 66 suspects issued by cops after riots at the West Ham v Millwall match mistakenly featured actors from hooligan flick The Firm.Police used a Sky TV report to capture images of louts brawling at the Carling Cup game in August. But because they turned off the sound they failed to realise the report featured footage from the movie. And they thought the film fights were the real thing. Although most of the photos were of suspects cops wanted to trace, some were actors. They included Paul Anderson who appears as Bex in the film. Panicking Scotland Yard bosses yesterday withdrew six mugshots fearing they could be sued. The Firm, released last month, is a coming-of-age drama set in the early 1980s about a young man who joins a "firm" of football hooligans. A source said: "Whilst we admit the mistake, Sky's coverage featured a segment about the notorious rivalry between West Ham and Millwall. "They dramatised it by showing a clip from The Firm. "We are not sure if this footage was captioned but there is no doubt it should have been spotted. The detectives weren't able to differentiate the film clip from the real thing." Scotland Yard put the episode down to a "genuine mistake". A spokesman said: "We recognise that these persons are not wanted for interview and are unconnected to the violence at the West Ham United v Millwall match. "The images concerned appear to have been taken from a motion picture. "Enquiries are underway into how this occurred."
Simi Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 Doesn't surprise me. Sky have been known to do this in the past. Whilst trying to dramatise the Millwall vs Leeds stuff they showed footage of United vs Leeds aggro from the mid 80's. They'll do anything to get the story they want.
Fosse Boy Posted 31 October 2009 Posted 31 October 2009 Ridiculous. I saw some of these mugshots (think it was on the West Ham website) and I could have sworn that some of them were 'wall players!
