Head Honcho Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 I don't know who started it last night, or who was more to blame out of West Ham or Millwall. Frankly, it doesn't matter, those involved should be banned from the game. Simple as.I'm interested to know the police's failing in all this. Obviously questions need to be asked, but what is it that they did differently to any other category 5 game? If it's going to kick off, it's very hard for the police to contain it safely, so why the accusations at London Met? There was some guy on a website 21 hours ago stating that there'd be 2000 Millwall in the ground and another 5000 outside the ground so how the police can say they were unprepared is a joke. I admit it wasn't the fault of the police but their handling of the situation needs some answers. .............and why only 10 arrests?

I think it's become a standard now to criticise the police, when in truth, sometimes, there's little they can do. Taking your points: How credible was this internet source? What were the police numbers last night and how many should there have been? From the little I know about the police, it can take two to three officers to arrest someone acting in a violent manner, so it is unfortunately unrealistic for the police to do anything more than try and contain the violence, rather than focus on arrests. Arrests can only come later when they have footage or photographic evidence of the suspects whom they can identify.

There were cameras all over West Ham, HD ffs! They will have got stills of all their faces and I hope they get arrested one by one. I think there is also a penalty charge if you run onto the pitch? Give them something to do with their dole money anyway. W@nkers

Tommy G Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 That or a ban from all games for a certain period of time. What I meant is that legally you have to pay a fine. Like a parking ticket but worse. Anyone a lawyer here or even a wanabee will do? To clear that up..
Basingstoke Fox Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Just saw a similar sight on Sky News near a pub called 'The Queens'.

Uncle Albert Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 What a group of fucking idiots, these people are the types of people who give Football and England as a country a badname. West Ham fan's looked like a right bunch of twat's when they scored a goal, jesus the had scored an equaliser against a League One side and they thought they had to run on the pitch. Millwall fan's had only been in the ground 25 minutes before they started fighting with the Police, clowns.
Fosse Boy Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Chickens have come home to roost.Millwall have behaved like lowlife all year. They kicked off against us, against Leeds in the first leg of the playoffs and against Scunny at Wembley. Yet the league and the FA did jack, and remained in denial over their hooligan activities. There's no way they should have been allowed ANY tickets for the game. West Ham could easily have found ways and means to allocate tickets to their own fans only. Maybe a few hundred Millwall would have still travelled looking for a ruck, but plod should have been able to deal with that. Did you miss the bit when it was West Ham that invaded the pitch about 3 times you goon?! And I spose Millwall were outside punching themselves were they? This. C'mon Ultra, even you have to admit that the blame for last night must be at least equally apportioned to thugs from both sides of the Thames, rather than just those from south of it. WHU fans running on to the pitch throwing plastic bottles? Fat balding 40 year old men being held back by the surrounding gesticulating 16 year olds wearing Fred Perry, shouting "c'mon then" at, Fat balding 40 year old men being held back by the surrounding gesticulating 16 year olds wearing Fred Perry. SSN's coverage of this non event is pathetic, get some bloody sports news to report! If they are going to seriously report the events, can't they report the failings of the met rather than the nuisance fans, we already knew about them as did the met. This non event has been so over publicised, report on Port Vale they achieved something last night. What a cracking goal by the way, can't remember the scorer?
StanSP Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 What a cracking goal by the way, can't remember the scorer? Kris Taylor I think
Sly Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 I thought that was the queue for the job centre? <_< On a serious note though, this sort of behaviour has no place in the game. It's a sport, that over the past few years has been marketed to families. I took my 6 year odl daughter to the Leicester Barnsley game on Saturday. I would never dream of taking her anywhere near such a game as this. The police knew that their would be trouble but were just under prepared for how to deal with it. However, what do you do? Hitting the clubs with fines doesn't impact on the planks that caused this violence. They don't care about the game. You could expel both clubs from the league, league or FA cup but I don't think this would solve anything!!

It's the job of the police to prevent this sort of thing from happening. The whole area should have been cordoned off and anyone without a ticket prevented from entering the area. They should have been at tube stations and any known faces should have been prevented from travelling to Upton Park. Allowing 5000 ticketless Millwall fans to make the trip to Upton Park was to say the least a right royal fook up.

How do you stop fighting outside the cordon? How can you man every tube station to check for known faces? How do you stop 5,000 Millwall fans and countless West Ham fans doing whatever the fuck they want? You can't.
C-man Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Yeah sorry that the Met didn't have 25000 policemen available to deal with this game.

It's not that easy to just stop 5000 people from turning up, the police were always going to be fighting a losing battle and it seems they actually managed to do a reasonable job in containing the violence.

Now you seem to be advocating for it's return. The police are in a no-win situation.
