I suppose it depends on individuals expectations and personalities.... Im just a glass half full kind of person lol

I honestly thought wed struggle big time in this division and am pleasantly surprised at our current position. Im also enjoying my football which is the main thing for me.

I was there on Saturday and yes, disappointed not to pick up all 3 points but I give credit to Watford and the way they came back at us not just the errors in our tactics. I enjoyed the day though so cant be too despondant. I took away a lot of positives from the 1st half and from the way we got back right at the end thats all.

I dont think we have the perfect team by a long shot, dont get me wrong. :)

Sod the half a glass, I want the whole bloody bottle!..... :P

I have no issue when we get beat by a superior side, providing we put up a decent fight. But when we take the field totally unprepared and disorganised, as we did on saturday, it really gets my goat.

I do not like investing my time and money in a team that takes to the field not knowing who is supposed to be playing where and can't re-organise after losing 1 player.

As is my usual practice I got the best seats I could and was high up,quite close to the half way line. The first 5-10 minutes were absolutely chaotic with NP screaming instructions almost from the off.

Similarly, why on earth did we try and revert to a flat midfield after the break? What was the point in just giving Watford the initiative? After Wellens went off our midfield was so disorganised and useless that it was only Helguson going off that stoped them scoring half a dozen.

These are tactical and organisational issues that could and should have been sorted out before we even took the field.

It was very unprofessional and it was that rather than any individual performances that gave me the hump!

you need to be more realistic.

There isnt a single team in the world that is in control and on top of every game they play - not even Man utd, let alone a team that was playing a division lower last season.

Also, there is the small matter of the opposition who themselves are wanting to winand will try hard to, at that.

Lets not forget human error, regardless of skill.

you can have two perfectly good eyes, yet stub your toe on a chair leg, two perfectly good hands yet spill your coffee, oversteer or understeer.

A footballer can have all the skill in the world, yet make mistakes,

With all due respect to leicester city, we do not have all the skill in the world- we are in the championship and new to it at that...

in other words, we all make mistakes and none of us are perfect, but the course of a full season will display our true skill no matter how well we think we should be playing..

Stop being sensible will you.

FFS.

I have said a dozen times recently that I have no problem if we do not win matches. Further I rarely criticise individual players for individual mistakes, that can happen to anyone.

What I can not and will not accept is the failure of basic organisation! We are a professional football team, there is absolutely no excuse for not being properly organised.

This failure has been obvious for some time, our attempts to sit back on a lead when we do not have the faintest idea of how to defend in depth and close out a game is one example, our lack of any threat from corners and free kicks is another and, even off the top of my head there are several others that I shall refrain from boring you with.

No, if we continue to play in the haphazard and disorganised way that we have displayed in most of the games this season we are more likely to be in a relegation battle than we are to be fighting for a playoff spot.

That is realistic!

I am happy with our start really.

Ipswich Town, Sheffield United, Newcastle United and Watford were all tough away games and although we have only took 3 points from those 4 games, we could have easily took 3 points from all the games.

At home, we have been fine and I have no complaint there. We have beaten Swansea, Barnsley and Blackpool who are all establish Championship sides now with talented players.

Richie Wellens is the best signing.

Hopefully, we can win every home game (or at least get a point) and get something away from home, we will be fine.

What I expect is simple.

We have shown, in spells of 40-45 minutes (most recently on saturday) that we are a good side who can compete with the best in this league.

However there remains the glaring inconsistency, both within games and game to game, that to me smacks of a lack of preparation and organisation. This is something that can and should be fixed.

Similarly even when we are well on top the Howard/Fryatt partnership is not delivering. Sure Matty is playing very well and has an excellent scoring record but unlike some on this forum I believe that at this time it is despite the presence of Howard, not because of it! We need to try some options.

I expect/expected us to be in the top 10 for most of this season and in with a chance of play offs still in April. So far so good.

So you knew we'd be top 10 and knew Fryatt would be some super goalscorer... are you Derren Brown? or maybe just an overly optimistic person?

There's a thread that somebody did (Flynny I think) for people to make predictions for this season. If you look it up you'll see I said Fryatt would score around 20 and we'd be in the top 10.

Derren Browns a fake, I'm the real deal. :)

I've just found it.

  • Fryatt will score around 20 goals.
  • Top 10 finish for us.
  • Newcastle will finish comfortably above Middlesbrough.
  • Dickov will score a vital winning goal for us and still get slagged off on here.

I kinda *expected* us to continue our momentum from last season, but I also expected to struggle a wee bit. We've shown we can compete with anyone in this division but we've also shown some weaknesses.

We'll just be another run-of-the-mill Championship mid-table team, which will do me just fine.

This is exactly what I think.

I'm annoyed with the fans who pick on individuals in the team who are at fault for this or that or whatever. It's a team effort and the team is performing well as a unit generally up to this point. Ok, so players have off days but stop making such a fuss about it and look where we are in the table.

Some people are never happy are they?

I don't really care if you did or didn't... I just think prancing around saying "I was right" is a bit sad.

Could be higher up but I'm happy. An advantage to us this season, especially in the earlier parts is that teams may think because we have come up that we'll be shit, but then we'll end up beating them.

I can assure you I'm sat down.

Personally I think that saying anyone who thought that Fryatt was good enough is an idiot even after he's proved that he is good enough is a bit sad.

Now come on. Admit you were wrong and we can all move on. :kissing:

There was absolutely no evidence to base your opinion on though, that's what people are getting at. It was just a wild stab in the dark. Congratulations to him for doing well and I'm chuffed he is doing well so far, but those who were Skeptical about him being good enough in this league were basing their opinions on cold hard FACTS having seen him play in this league and not a hunch or unbridled optimism.

Not at all. 3 more things to add.

Firstly, in recent times Fryatt has played many more times alongside Howard than any other striker, when Howard was not available we had Dickov or Hayles, nuff said?

Secondly the majority of Fryatts goals came in division 1 where we played a 'direct' game and Howard was able to bully the lower quality defenders in that league, he cannot and will not do that at this level!

Thirdly, we are moving away from the long ball and towards a passing game, a style that requires deft, quick forwards showing for balls played on the floor and capable of running the channels. Much as I admire Howard for his tenacity and commitment, he is not that sort of player.

LAST POST ON THIS SUBJECT:

The evidence is 39 goals in this season and last.

I've also seen him play, so my opinion isn't just based on unbridled optimism. I think he's a good player. He has a good touch and a good footballing brain. He lacks a bit of pace but if he was the perfect player he wouldn't be playing for us.

Don't forget he's only 23. Most players don't hit their peak untill their mid 20s.

Imagine if we somehow made it to the Prem via the playoffs, we'd probably do worse than Derby did that year.

I suppose it's better than being in mid table obscurity for 5 years though.

Or we might do the same as Hull or Stoke did last season.

People can call me an unbridled optimist if they like but I'd rather be that than a miserable pessimist.

We have played well the last 3 games and have 5 points when it should be 9.

Think we need to start playing awful and winning. That is a sign of a good team.

In what universe does giving away 4 points in 3 matches (by you're own admission) count as playing well!
