maddog Posted 3 October 2009 Posted 3 October 2009 Thought we didn't deserve to win, and neither did they, 1-1 fair result, only Cardiff and Boro won above us, so we haven't lost any ground on the playoffs, just teams below us are starting to catch now, like Palace who we play soon and need to beat.

I dont see cov as rivals, derby and forest are bigger. On the game, thought a point was a fair result although either side could of nicked it at the end. Cov took the decision in pre-season to close parts of the ground due to lack of interest/support. They might as well close another stand too as 2 sides (16k) will do them.

He said something like "And this is the such and such stand our Season Ticket Holders stand" surely they don't force you into 1 stand if you're a ST? I was thinking though maybe if they let ST's go anywhere likelyhood is they would go over to the opposite stand, leaving the current ST stand empty making it look even worse than it does now?

Wish I could have stuck the bloke 2 rows behind me in the home end, he managed to slate every city player that started at least 3 times, even Howard and Waghorn didnt escape when they came on.

Fox92 Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 As I said and expected, I really enjoyed the old trip to the Richo Arena - even if the concourse bit downstairs is horrid. It was my second visit, and I was expecting a tough game, ecspecially with Sammy Clingan breaking up play. Thought we played well in the first half and kept them quit, but one handball decision, which didn't look like handball, made us pay - and I thought that Weale should have done better. Fryatt was on his own. Nice to see Pearson being positive and bringing on DJ, Stevie and Waghorn which payed off. Howard won more headers than what Kermogrant did I thought, DJ still poor and too weak and Waghorns finish was a beauty! Take a point at Cov, now want a win against Derby, Palace and Reading.

However, it's encouraging to see that we can still pick up points when the performance isn't what it should be. Coventry's formation seemed to cause us a number of problems. Their three in midfield seemed to win most of the 50/50s, particularly on the edge of both boxes. I'm still not convinced by a King/Oakley midfield partnership: they proved yesterday that they're too lightweight - disappointingly they both failed to retain decent possession in Coventry's half. I suspect Wellens will be back in the side for the Derby game. Best was a handful for our defence, but I think we did OK generally. He played right of their forward three and Berner did have a few problems against him. All in all it was a fairly even game. We perhaps didn't create many clear-cut chances, but then Coventry didn't have that many themselves. Weale made a fantastic save in the first half and a decent one in the second. The point carries on our decent start to the season and I think most supporters would have taken 7th at this stage with only four points off second place.

Even had Wellens played yesterday and one of the other two had been missing Wellens would n't have found it easy to find people to pass to cos they weren't there and they weren't trying to make themselves available with selfless runs. And much as I favour attacking full-backs I can well understand Berner's problem. He had quite enough trouble and more dealing with Best and the rest of Coventry's right-sided threat without exposing himself still more by gappoling into attack. We were also narrow on the right side. Morrison was never going to be a pass-and-run merchant and Gallagher might have been anywhere rather than making himself available for an easy one-two. I've not noticed our results being better when Wellens has played rather than, say, King. Indeed we've not yet lost a league match this season that King has played a part in, which is not the vase with Wellens who played in both our defeats. Good as he is in some phases wellens has a habit of being caught in possession or losing his positional discipline which might well have been costly yesterday but we'll never know. And Wellens, no more than King or Oakley, would not have stopped our centre-backs by-passing them with their clearances and, instead hoofing it up to nowhere in particular. I thought we enjoyed a fair share of midfield possession for spells of yesterday's game and that King, in particular, retained possession well given the circumstances and was extremely disciplined in deciding when to make his tackles and when to stand off until more cover arrived. I accept you can debate the rights or wrongs of that comment for ever but the fact remains that King, in particular, has an absolutely outstanding results record for the games he's taken part in since Pearson's arrival. And it is a pity so little of what he does is noticed just because he's not a Tiatto type. It's noticed well enough when he's not there as against Newcastle when their attackers ran straight through our centre on occasions including for the winner and against Preston when we were shown up as suckers to the counter attack.

Interesting - I couldn't believe it when I saw the goal on SSN after getting home, it looked totally different (I thought much better) on TV. I remembered seeing Howard flick it into his path and him just slotting it past the keeper. Amazing how your perception of a goal can change depending on where you see it from.

The whole thing happened so quickly and Waghorn's speed of thought in finding a way to direct his shot accurately was truly exceptional.

Both teams were very average, and a draw was a fair result. We are going to be short of goals come the end of the season, as our entire so called strike force is virtually non existant, thanks to NPS's poor buys. Defensively we look quite comfortable.

That's because our midfield works so damned hard and so responsibly closing people down and making up for defenders giving the ball away so cheaply and unnecessarily. In the end I couldn't be bothered to analyse it specifically cos it would have got me down. But come video time at the training ground this week they should watch Hobbs first dozen passes. On one occasion he underhit a pass which got the recipient in a real mess. The rest of the time he simply he far more than was on and floated his passes to an opponent. Don't be mistaken. I love Hobbs the defender. The man is a colossus in almost every aerial battle. Even better he seems to find a bit of time on the ball and the chance to look up and evaluate his best option. Then it all goes wrong. Insted of playing quick and simple he tries to find someone 30 or 40 yards away. Why do defenders think they're that good? Okay Brown hit one beauty of a crossfield pass yesterday. I was so damned shocked because it was just about the first time he'd done that since he arrived and he's tried often enough. I suppose it is not only the easy option but it also saves defenders from being obliged to remain involved in the developing move and perhaps expose their lack of pace or control. I really will be much happier when we have mobile full-backs and the ball moves forward via them and via the central midfielders so that the opposition have to do a lot more work to contain us. And when our centre-backs see 20 yards as a long pass and 10-15 yards as the ideal.
Raj Posted 4 October 2009 Posted 4 October 2009 We ended up with seats at the very front along side the wheelchair fans....until HT when we moved to the top left as there were plenty of space. Atmo was crap to begin with but got better as the game progressed. Waggys goal was actually fcuking brilliant!!...Didnt even realise it was side of the foot(Twas wasnt it???) I think we had a chance to win it if we carried the fight to them and was a tad disappointed we let the momentum fade. BUT nice to see DJ Back even though he had a few Boos,id have loved to see him score but may have to wait a while before he does!! NIce to bump into a few folk near Tesco!! Tesco Stand rules!!
